Hello, I love creating shelter, I think it is a primal instinct to serve the most basic of needs, I love history and the atmosphere and day to day of how people lived maybe a thousand years ago, so putting these things together I have built an Iron age style roundhouse and a Viking / Anglo Saxon style pit house. I am fully aware that they are not historically accurate but I hope that I have recreated the "feeling" of an ancient dwelling whilst making them practical, affordable to build, and comfortable to stay in. They are in the style of camping pods with basic cooking and heating facilities.
My hope is that others are inspired to create their own versions of tiny historical buildings it is a great feeling to stay in something you have built yourself and be warm and safe in the worst of weather. I am bursting with more ideas for little buildings so hopefully, there will be another project in the not too distant future, finances permitting!
Thank you.

Love it
really enjoyed your other videos and tutorials, this is a mega impressive construction!
Loved it! Thank you!😊😊
Fantastic video Anthony thank you!! How did you overcome the problem of the outside roof wooden panel bowing with the outside changes in temperature! ?? ( if they do that !?)
I love this! I have to do this for myself! Thank you !
Incredible system!
That is so clever!
Interesting build. Thank you for sharing!
How deep should the pit be?😊
Nice job on your composting outhouse and your shower. Where did you buy your divider for the toilet? I've never seen one like that before and I'd like to have one.
I thank you for your kind comments, I bought the divider off ebay, it is a fibreglass one, kind regards.
Love to know the prices.
Sorry can't help you there, I imagine the prices are negotiable!! Best wishes.
What do you throw the full compostable bags into? Do you empty the bags or do they breakdown over a year?
The full bags go into a large plastic wheelie bin to compost over a year, I make sure to buy the bio style compostable bags as they disappear completely. Thanks for your question.
These are beautiful, I would happily live in a place like that, especially the one with the coloured timber on the walls and ceiling, such beautiful designs.
I could not agree more, I would love to live in one of their wonderful creations, thanks for your comment, Anthony.
Except for the heat during hot season. And air conditioning would be expensive with the leakage and low R factor. Now to be a downer. I've stayed in similar places in Thailand when the weather is more suitable and they are very comforting to live in, for some reason.
very useful - many thanks
Glad it was helpful! Kind regards.
That is gorgeous! great work. That looks like it'd be so much more fun than just building a little plywood shack.
Thank you for your kind words, Anthony.
absolutely love it, what a great creation.
Thank you so much, kind regards, Anthony.
It is lovely! Well done!
Thank you! 😊
Awesome setup!!
Thank you so much for your kind words.
Just found your channel while looking at Scandinavian inspired off grid shelters. I have a question for you - what did you do to round the outside walls as you were putting them up? Is it an optical illusion and the round house is actually octagonal? Great channel. Just subscribed!
It is actually oval, ha ha, I started with the base of the right shape then nailed and clenched boards one after the other all the way round. thank you for your interest ad good luck with your project!
I really like your bathroom setup. I am in the process of building one myself for a Glamping project. Can you tell me what you do with the bags? How you compost them. Do you empty the bags? Or do you just put the whole lot onto a pile or wormery? Can you let me know any problems or tips you've had with this process? Ive really enjoyed your videos and have subscribed, looking forward to more. Steve, Malvern Hills
Hello Steve, the bags go into a large wheeled bin for a year so I alternate two bins, the bags are compostable. this is important as I have found some do not degrade but others do. I change the bags between each booking so that every customer has a fresh toilet. The urine soak-away needs to be large and flushed with plenty of clean water each changeover! Hundreds of people have used it now so it has been quite successful! Good luck with your project, I wish you every success! Kind regards, Anthony.
Thanks for this! Needed to know how to clean the soot from the inside of the glass. Will try when I get home.
Glad it was helpful! Happy new year.
@@vikinghamerHelpful indeed; lanterns look good as new now! Happy New Year :)
Dear Ant and Pen. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you. May your business grow and become even more beautiful, I wish you to find time for yourself and your family. May your love always warm you and your whole family, all those who get to know you. be healthy and happy. Love to you and many Christmas hugs🤗🤗🤗💖💖💖
Dear Rimma and Dima, Happy New Year, Pen and I would like to wish you every happiness this coming year, you are truly inspirational to me and for that I thank you very much. Peace, hugs and love.

Thank you for your interest, best wishes.
turns out I missed your new videos🙏. You remind me a lot of my dad, who seems to be able to do everything!!!👍 Looks great!!!
Dear Rimma, it has been a while since I have messaged you and your husband, my wife and I have been back in Thailand visiting family there and of course looking after the fruit trees. I am keeping busy with the holiday cabins, I enjoy hosting guests and making their stay comfy and memorable. I would like to extend an invitation to you and Dima to come and stay as our guests sometime in the future when circumstances allow. I hope that things with you are going well. Very best wishes, your friend, Ant.
@@vikinghamer Thank you for the invitation, dear Ant and Pen. It's so touching. It's very interesting, you live like migratory birds, flying away to warm lands for the winter. It's a change of scenery, a chance to see your relatives, and to recharge with warmth and sunshine. Probably the same is waiting for us. When we get better settled here, we will go to Ufa for the summer and back to the Black Sea for the winter. The winter here is very comfortable. Like autumn or spring. We like it very much, you have a rest from heat and at the same time you don't freeze in -30C. I also feel like you are happy to do your business, because you are a jack of all trades, it suits you very well. Giving people a comfortable and relaxing holiday is a very good thing, people feel happy and this energy of happiness and gratitude returns to you.🤗🤗💞
Would these also be suitable for cats?
Hello Mr lucky Dan, they are suitable for many animals including but not restricted to cats, sheep and water buffalo, as they float!
Would these be suitable for barbecuing lamb?
Yes but you need to take the fur off first.
Is there anything you can’t make? Another great video!
Thank you my friend, I love to be creative, best wishes, Anthony.
Looking Good 👍
Thanks for the visit, best wishes.
Hi Anthony, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this build. I also use wirewool/vinegar solution on my projects. And I hope you'll make many more. But please read the "safety data sheet" on the boiled linseed oils manufacturerer's website. Linseed oil is foodsafe. Boiled linseed oil isn't. It contains chemicals to accelerate the drying. Also consider using more health-friendly glue. Unless, ofcourse, the plates are purely decorative. I don't mean to be intrusive, just a word from one woodworker to another.
I'll check it out! Thank you for your interest.
such plates will decorate any table, not only Vikings, but also modern knights and fairies🙂. I also love the smell of linseed oil. the stylized table setting at the end of the video is simply amazing, you can really immerse yourself in those times. The texture is very interesting, such colors are very organic. As always, it's inspiring, Ant, and I like how your eyes are shining in the process of creation.❤
Dear Dreamy, thank you for your kind comments this really is appreciated. Your videos always inspire, make me question and think hard, I love this. I am so glad you notice how happy I am when I am making things, haha! Best wishes, your friend, Ant.

What is the brand of separating toilet? Is there a seller you can recommend?
Hello, the separating toilet pan was an eBay purchase, there is a few to choose from, I cannot remember the exact one, long time ago now. good luck with your project. Thanks for your comments, Anthony.
Beautiful design accents everywhere! Loved all the little touches like the soap holders and the dried flowers in the outhouse. Thank you for sharing :)
You are very kind, thank you for your comments, best wishes, Anthony.
I love it
Thank you so much.
Simple and effective. No need to make a big A"dodooo" about it all. Lol Great job, on the video and the explanation. Keep it simple!
Thank you for your kind comments and making me smile! Best wishes.
My nan and grandad had one in their outside toilet, over winter to stop the pipes from freezing.
We do the same, great cost effective frost protection, thank you so much!
do you think a pond liner would do the work of fiberglass with regards to waterproofing?
I have been having similar thoughts using building DPM Visqueen. If I build another then that is what I will use, the biggest problem will be protecting it from getting punctured, fiberglass is super tough! Best of luck with your project, Anthony,
which side of the dpm do you think would be more susceptible to puncture? pond construction has the same issues and they solve that with a soft blanket like material that is applied under the liner. i imagine that has to be a lot more affordable and less labour intensive?@@vikinghamer
@@odo678 The fibreglass was over £1000 just in materials so it is very expensive, DPM would be about £60, I was thinking of bubble wrap insulation on both sides to protect from the rough timber and sharp stones in the turf. Future project, haha!
thats a great idea! theres even a bubble wrap with thermal reflective properties purpose built for insulation...though with the soil i doubt it would be necessary. thanks for the tip!@@vikinghamer
A much fun!
Thank you my friend, very best wishes, Anthony.

All the best, Anthony.
Such a wonderful tour. Added more comfort. In the kitchen area, I immediately remembered my childhood with my grandmother, she always cooked in a small separate kitchen among the trees and this only made the food tastier. We admire your golden hands. by the way, you look very fresh. Hugs and love🤗❤🤗
Hello my lovely friend, I sincerely hope that you are fairing well. I have had a busy summer, the cabins are now rented out for people to come for holidays and an accidental business has become quite popular. I am now working a lot as a housekeeper something that cleaning and changing beds, skilled work that I am still getting used too. Less time for making things has depressed me a little but I have decided to concentrate on what I love and make time. I often think about how you and your family are doing, I would like to send you all love, respect, peace and hugs. Very best of wishes, your friend, Ant.
@@vikinghamer I also had a very busy summer. I am engaged in home improvement, I also bring comfort in order to have time before the autumn. I'm just like you: I don't have time at all for my favorite things, such as making videos, but I'm slowly getting back into the regime, I hope that soon I will definitely be free for my favorite creative activities. I am very glad that your business is going well. I wish you prosperity and find time for your favorite activities. I hug you, and I always remember you too, dear Ant
