you pay careful attention to how your baby is moving, you will observe several distinct patterns of movement as he learns how to move. You will see at least some of these patterns at the crawling stage, at the creeping stage, and at the walking stage. There are four distinct patterns of movement that children will use. They are the truncal pattern, the homologous pattern, the homolateral patter...

He is so adorable... loved beyond measure! As a retired Nurse Epidemiologist and seasoned mom to 4 beautiful daughters and 4 grand daughters... I'm so blessed. I had all of my babies in the 70s (as in every other year) and planned for one birth to be in 1976, America's bicentennial year... AND YES, SHE ARRIVED IN TIME FOR THANKSGIVING! Back then there was NO "tummy time"! You could put your baby in the crib any old way you wanted. They all were perfect. Thank you for your questions.

Thanks for your comment, Kia. Yes, he is adorable and loved beyond measure. Congrats for being both a nurse and a mom. Yes, times were different back then. I've been a specialist in child brain development working directly with parents for 45 years. Long before George H. W. Bush declared the 1990's the Decade of the Brain, I was teaching parents how to radically change their children's lives by taking advantage of brain plasticity. So, no questions. I've seen how the world of parenting and children has changed. However, some things never change. There has always been tummy time. The difference between when you had your babies and now is that back then almost all parents placed their kids on their tummies without a second thought. Today almost no parent puts their baby on the tummy unless they are told to do so, which is rare. Why? Because they are told that their baby will die. We have the AMA and the AAP to blame for that. The "Back to Sleep" campaign, a misguided effort to combat SIDS put the fear of God into parents. Bad idea because there is a direct relationship between the development of mobility and good brain development. As a result, today we have an epidemic of all kinds of problems - delayed and poor physical development, plagiocephaly, learning problems, behavior problems, autism, etc. If you like to know more about our work please check out www.brainfitkids.com and www.reachfamilyinstitute.org.
