Mini Classic Cooling Fan Replacement - Can it be done in place without removing the radiator??
She’s told you: she wants it done by Christmas! Dave, you know what you’ve got to do!
@simonbailey2151 I'll try my best, but not promising anything 🤣🤣
Hi Dave. Great to see the MGB getting some attention. Question,,, What gearbox are you going to use. Plus is the diff a stock one. Steve.
@Steviegtr52 Hi Steve Gearbox is the Ford T5 (same as in TVR, just without the quaife internals). Rear axle is standard with a quaife LSD diff fitted, 3.9:1 ratio. Hopefully make some fast progress with it 🤞
Hi Dave. Fingers crossed on the engine build. Hope you can find a few more ponnies from it. The umbilicle idea on the wiring sounds good. Make things more tidy & reliable too. I have done quite a lot of fibre glass work in the past. You will need to remove a lot for little saving. Best of luck & hope next year brings some trophies. Steve.
@Steviegtr52 Hi Steve. Yeah engine rebuild should hopefully be straight forward, and hopefully a few extra bhp to boot 🤞. We need a new flywheel aswell (it has done near 25yrs though). Wiring will be much better (and neater with less of the wiring). Yeah I know fibreglass is tough to get weight from. I'm told the seat belt mounts have metal in them so hopefully a but of a saving there, and there's a couple other ideas I've got too. Hopefully get 10-15kg out the car over the winter. Hoping for a successful 2025 🏆
Just watched another video. Double check that fan... Its on backwards!
Hi Dave. I hope it's like you say a few broken rings or a cracked piston. There cannot be that much that causes crankcase compression.
@Steviegtr52 thanks Steve. Yeah as you say there can't be that many things. Engine going tomorrow (work been manic) so will find out in the next week or 2.
Thanks for the video - very neat - bummer to finish the season like that but on the bright side there isn’t a massive hole in the side of the block! We’ve all been there.
@nztvrtuscan Thanks for your kind words! And yes, the car drive into the trailer at the end of the day... Engine will be coming out in the next week and sent away, video incoming for that 👍🏁
Eyup Dave. Thanks for sharing the great video. What a bitch. Crankcase pressure. Yrs ago when tuning Cosworth engines we had lots of Pressure problems & had alloy catch tanks made & better breathing. The problem was with running such high turbo boost we had lots of blow by on the pistons. Nothing wrong with the clearances just so much pressure. Just wondered what breather system you have & can it be made better. Do you need to have a rev limit as on the straight it looked like you could have pulled 5th gear but never did. Hope it's mot too bad & maybe just a broken ring or 2. Another question as you said someone was disqualified due to using slicks. What are the limits on tyres & what are you using. It seemed that was your biggest problem with corner grip. Steve.
Hi Steve, glad you enjoyed the video!! Breathing system has been the same for several years now without issues. The rocker covers are linked and then back into the dry sump oil tank. The oil tank has a breather that leads to a catch tank with a vent to air from it. I'll put some footage in next video (engine removal) so you can see 👍. Engine has a rev limit at around 7k rpm. And makes power upto 6900 (5th can be an awkward change if you rush it). Tyres have to be list 1b treaded tyres (track day tyres essentially). No slicks are allowed. Keeps costs a bit lower, but the times do suffer because of it (slicks are anywhere from 3-6 second a lap faster depending on circuit!). Corner grip is far far better, I do miss racing on slicks lol. I'm hoping engine is just needing piston rings. Weirdly it was getting a full rebuild this winter anyway 😂. Dave.
Not usually up this early Dave but dropped Bev off for her bus to London for a few days. Nice result & sounds amazing. Question. Have you got solid lifters on the Cam. Noticed the tap[pet adjusters. Steve.
@Steviegtr52 Hi Steve. Yes ours runs a full race 256 spec cam, that requires solid lifters. I did do a video with Becs a while ago in adjusting them. These are 'old school' group A style. Nowadays the favoured option is the roller rocker setup (yellaterra etc). Let's hope she goes as well as she sounds this weekend 🤞🏁 Dave.
That's good news Dave. Looking good. Steve.
Thanks Steve. Part 3 out tomorrow 👍🏁
Enjoyed this! Looking forward to catching up this weekend 🍻 (Tom from Rock up Racing)
Thanks Tom! See you at the weekend 👍🏁
Hi Dave. I know valley gasket leaks are pretty common on the Rover motor. But was yours loose, as in it had bent the steel cradle that clamps it down. If so then you may be right about pressure causing it. Those compression figures were all fine, nothing wrong there. Hope you get it sorted. Steve.
@Steviegtr52 Hi Steve. Nothing seemed loose but there's videos coming tomorrow and Tuesday to show what we found and more engine work. Don't want to spoil it but there's a bit of engine surgery been done! Hopefully it'll be worth it 🤞 Dave.
Great to see beloved TVRs still battling it out on track. Thank you for posting this.
@@mr.p6210 still plenty of TVRs in Bernies V8s. If you can get to one of our race meetings make sure to come and say Hi!
@@CTSRacing95 If you come to Knockhill, I'll be there.
Great drive Dave - you've got a terrific gearbox, always seems to be on the power. T5 I assume?
@nztvrtuscan Hi. Thankyou!! Yes it's a T5 gearbox with quaife internals for added strength. Ratios change slightly - longer first (helps with standing starts) and a shorter 5th. 2/3/4 are standard ratio
@@CTSRacing95 thank you
Hi Dave . Just got back from the Bikers cafe to find this. Is it not the same race as shown last night.???
@@Steviegtr52 Hi Steve. Yes, this is the full race in car footage from what I put up as highlights last night 👍.
Brilliant. Look forward to Snetterton!
Well Dave. WOW,, WOW,,WOW. Your driving that thing like you stole it. Awesome video. Keep it up. You need a big sponsor, wish I could win the lottery & help you out. See you on the next one. Steve.
Thanks Steve!! Yes car is much nicer to drive at the limit now! Sponsors would be fab, but I won't hold my breath 😂. Full race 2 video will be posted up tomorrow hopefully 👍🏁 Cheers. Dave
Hi Dave , great video. Just a question. You said Caster angle. I thought caster was the amount the top & bottom parts of the suspension lean rearward . It looked like you were measuring the Camber & tracking. ???. Am i wrong there. Also Is this video after the race I watched where you anialated the rest of the field. Again ???. Sorry but just confused which is quite normal for me. Steve.
HI Steve. Re: Castor - it's measured in degrees but you are correct in how it would look. Turning the wheels with the castor gauge measures how far forward/backward the wheel leans when turned from one direction to the other (if that makes sense?). Hence why with the wheel at 20deg, I 0 the gauge. When turning through 40deg, the gauge measures where the wheel ends up 'leaning' to give the measurement. (I hope I've explained that OK?). This video was made before the race weekend. It was only qualifying I've put up so far, but what you saw was with this new setup (my fault in not getting this video up in time!). The next video will be of the race weekend as a whole. I should have that up (hopefully) by the end of the week. Apologies for the confusion!! Thanks Dave
@@CTSRacing95 Ah cheers Dave. Now I understand. Great & looking forward to the video upcoming. Steve.
Cracking drive Dave. Long live the Griff!!
@bobyoung5245 thankyou!! And race 2 saw me nearly 2 seconds a lap faster than this! Git that footage to upload later this week 👍🏁
Wow, it's like a different car. So stable & bloody hell you passed everyone. Mental. Steve.
@Steviegtr52 Hi Steve. It really is! Race 1 didn't work for camera's (but that turned our to be my error!). But race 2 is recorded and will get that out later on this week 👍 It was a cracker!! Dave
Hi Dave. A couple of things from a amateur at this subject. When corner weighting i think you weigh yourself & put things on the drivers seat to super impose the car with you in it. Then make the adjustments to the corner weighting. I also think those rear springs are way too stiff. I did become a mule many years ago when I ran a Calibra turbo. I lowered it & the springs were way too stiff. The car handled like a dog. Larkspeed in Leeds who sold me them said no-one had tried these before & would I be a mule testing them. I did & we ended up with some way softer springs which made a huge difference. The 1st ones caused the car to bump steer at the rear. Also my Nissan Skyline gtr33 650 bhp came from Japan with Apexi suspension fitted. You could not even get the car to dip on any corner by pushing down on the wings. Yes the car looked amazing but handled like a dog. Sometimes stiffer is not better. Shame you don't have a anti roll bar on the rear as surely this would help imensly. I saw the car rear end weaving on your last video, which makes you see saw on the steering wheel to try keep a straight line. I know it is a trait of the tvr handling. Hope you get it sorted out mate. Good luck for the upcoming event. Steve.
Hi Steve. Thanks for your words. I've got the equivalent of my weight in the drivers seat 👍. I've put some softer springs in (pt3) and got it somewhere near. Still not perfect but the best I could manage in the time available... We've found in the past that rear ARB hinders performance, and the car was faster without it fitted (and more predictable). It's all trial and error 😂 but we'll soon see as we're racing this weekend! Cheers. Dave
Dave. I remember being at Donnington some years age & they were doing this measurement to a Siera Cosworth. I can not understand how you can change the corner weighting. Or is it by adjusting the anti roll bars. Sorry for being a bit dunce on this subject. Steve.
@Steviegtr52 Hi Steve. Yeah I'm happy that it's square from what I can tell!! Because the coilivers are adjustable you can alter how the weight sits by adjusting opposing corners (I think 🤪). It basically puts the car under tension/load in different areas so kind of offsets the weight loading. It'll be more apparent in the next video when I'll get a bit more in depth with it all 👍. It does seem to be a bit of a minefield and trial/error though so should be fun!
please give me your email addess ,
Hi. You can get in touch ctsracing@hotmail.com
Some great footage there. Much better than the short one before. Shame about the rear end wander. Guess all that power & TVR. Watching the old TVR's with the 289 motors & huge ballon rear tyres. They seem planted a lot better. Or maybe not. Thanks for sharing. Steve.
@Steviegtr52 Hi Steve. Thanks for your kind words! I'm going to be making a video very soon on working on the setup for it. Had a quick measurement the other night and it's a bit out, which certainly won't help the handling! It'll be a work in progress but watch this space over the next week or so 👍🏁
good job both of yous
@@peterbrown1968 Thankyou 👍
Eyup Dave. You are putting me to shame. I need to get into gear & start doing some more on the Chimaera. The little un is definately getting better with the spanners & camera. Rose joints, perfect for the track. Keep em coming. Steve.
@Steviegtr52 Hi Steve. Thanks! Need to get the car prepped ready for next race by the end of the month. Yep Becs is definitely getting better by the week, she'll be out-doing me soon 😜. Rose joints work well, these were a bit worn though, so right time to change. Next video will involve measuring the car to see where things are at and get setting it up (as best as I can...). Cheers! Great video Dave. I take it you had cool down laps & then fast laps. ?? What was the clicking sound coming into pits. Like a prop shaft or something. Steve.
Hi Steve. Yeah trying to find space for a better laptime (didn't really work in this one...). Clicking noise is the pads rattling in caliper slightly I think (slight touch on brake pedal and noise goes away).
Looking good Dave. Good luck for the Speedfest. Steve.

Hi Dave. Real shame about the camera's. Good race results though. I could see the Corvette was fast on the straights & not so good on the bends. Fingers crossed for the Camera fix & they work next time out. I understand about not wanting contact. I raced Brisca F1 Stock cars in the 80's & that was full contact. I did not do it for long as finances could not keep up & i wanted to live a bit longer too. All the best for next time out & good luck. Steve.
Thanks Steve! Camera's seem to be fixed, so 🤞 all good for Brands! Small world re: stockcars. My dad used to race Brisca F2 in the late 70s, claim to fame he was the first ever North Eastern superstar 🏁. Dave.
Hi Dave great video. One thing to check. When I ran the dial guage on the front discs it was running out a lot. What i had not done & you too is put all the wheel nuts on with washers to bite hard all the way round. Once it did this it ran ok. See you on the next one. Steve.
Thanks Steve! Will recheck with all studs nipped up. There is definitely a slight warp though, as the needle on the front brake pressure gauge showed it. Not much, and to be fair it wasn't bad through the pedal either. I'm going to up the rear pads from track day spec to full race spec as I'm thinking it may have given a bit of an imbalance, hence locking up (which I rarely do usually). Here's hoping 🤞. Thanks!
Youre car sounds absolutely fantastic. Great video. Cheers
Good update Dave, looking forward to the race highlights. The wired Go Pros are a great idea. 👍
Thankyou! Getting through what bits I have so should have a video edited in next few days for Donington 👍
