I adore this new take on Worzel Gummidge, like any good actor, he put his own stamp on the part, this version is lovely, portayed as a very friendly, intelligent, knowledgeable, well mannered scarecrow. Lovely how they stuck to the original books regarding Aunt Sally being his Aunt, rather than the 1979 Southern TV Aunt Sally, who was changed to a love interest, I love Shirley Henderson's Saucy Nancy, I love how we get to know her background history, a figurehead from HMS St.Agnes a ship that fought at the battle of Trafalgar. and all that remains of the Agnes is the complete bow, which is the home of Peg (Vanessa Redgrave), love their beautiful diet 'Mother Carey', and Saucy Nancy's swearing!! My favourite episodes are 'The Scarecrow Of Scatterbrook', 'The Green Man', 'The Saucy Nancy' and 'Calliope Jane'. A very beautifully written remake.

This movie is one of my favorites. Still have it on VHS. I will order it one day on DVD or Blueray if possible. It is the perfect melange of theater and film. And Patrick Stewart ... 🥹 as a trekkie I came to watch this movie and fell in love with it head first ❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜

I can't believe no one else has left a comment! I saw the original play years ago, and the film when it came out. Tonight I rewatched it for the first time in at least a decade. Still makes me ache with laughter, and heartache. Back then the story's ray of hope at the end was overshadowed by the bleak realities of HIV and AIDS. Today, they're still with us but not the dark omen that they were -which lets this film shine even brighter.

This movie is NOT LGBTQIA. When it was made, it was only LGB. There was no T, no I, No A, and none of the other letters in it. The theme of this movie is what makes it stand out for this reason, plus it also touches upon a sensitive topic of human trafficking, which only later was expanded on with Sound of Freedom.

Wolf, I'm so happy you watched this. This was my introduction to Tolkien when I was very young. It's absolutely bonkers, but it suffers in many places from being TOO faithful to the book when it would have been better to do some adapting. It's weird and clunky and I will always love it. I enjoyed your reaction a great deal! I first saw this movie in 1980 while I was in my first year of college. I loved it… and still do. It’s based on a 1968 play which has been revived twice in New York. I know many claim it gives a distorted picture of the lives of gay men, but it rings true to me. Perhaps I wasn’t upset by it because the emotional brutality the characters inflict on one another was something I witnessed heterosexual characters doing in such American plays/movies as The Iceman Cometh and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Living in Portland at the time, I got to ride my bike around when they were filming the movie. River. Keanu. Gus. It was a pleasure to see them shoot scenes and rush off to shoot somewhere else. Ran into Keanu at a cafe and he is that guy you hear about. Kind, gentle and approachable. Never met a River but o would have loved to. I was sixteen and in love with filmmaking. Great memories.

Jonathan was an amalgam of Bowie and Jobriath(with some others sprinkled in) and Ewan was an amalgam of Iggy Pop and Lou Reed. Based on true events of Bowie’s rise and interest in helping the careers of Iggy and Lou all the while changing his own music and style like a chameleon. These things take place using the structure of Citizen Kane to tell the story. First a death, then a investigation. A look back from the perspective of those who knew Brian Slade best. Those closest to him. All having a different take on the truth. I think the green pin represents “The Chosen One” in a way. Only a a few are chosen to be the ones we remember in each generation. Like Oscar Wilde. Like David Bowie. The pin is the symbol that you are the one. That’s why Brian coveted it.
