MY SECOND 3.5 TOURNAMENT WIN!! | Beijing, China
Hey everyone, this is a follow up to my 1st tournament video (link here if you haven't seen it ruclips.net/video/GIM6m3t5-7w/видео.html)
This was played 2 days after my 1st win and I guess I was motivated to do well. This one isn't as dramatic as the first but looking back there were some contentious line calls. I felt more relaxed and free and definitely enjoyed myself more this time around. Enjoy the highlights and the journey!
About the Channel:

      @@3.5netrushtennis Wow that's so interesting! I didn't see them to be contrary to each other but rather I saw them as complementary, focusing on different aspects of the game For me, I really loved reading about the dogged and gritty mentality from Gilbert's playing experience, especially how he approaches specific points. As for the inner game I resonate a lot with the idea that the challenges we face on the court is predominantly against ourselves (especially at our level where unforced errors have greater weight on determining the outcome of a match), and I also found the concept of Self 1/Self 2 to be very revealing to what I was doing while on the court Would be interesting to discuss these with you both one day!

    The line callings are close enough to assume negligence. Maybe a case of "when in doubt call it out", which is against the rules, but not uncommon to see people do that. The tiebreak score dispute is definitely intentional cheating. The way he talks is a little too bluff-y to me. We want to have competitive tennis match, not petty claim tribunal at the net, geez. Good that you had the official to call him out right away, and video to check serve sequence.

    There is a lack of a consistent use of a Split Step on both sides of the net. For you a 3.5 it’s not unexpected to see. Most 3.5 players haven’t learned the importance of a Split Step yet. For a 4.5/5.0 player not executing a Split Step before every stroke is very puzzling. Even if he was taking it easy on you, a Split Step is normally something that’s so ingrained in the process of playing tennis for a advanced player that it would be harder mentally to force himself not to do it. The 5-7 set was as good as a win for you. A 5.0 would rarely play a set that close to a 3.5 unless the opponent was a very attractive member of the opposite gender.

    • @AsianTennisBoy
      @AsianTennisBoy 4 месяца назад

      Great point on the split step, since then I've been trying to incorporate it more into my game, it is not an easy habit to develop but I can already feel my reaction time become so much better when I do utilise it. Thanks for watching!

     @AsianTennisBoy it was a great match. Ignore the internet commenters on rating... every ball looks slower on video. Your opponent was a solid 4.5 or thereabouts- anyone who says 4.0 has really never seen a 4.0 match on video (USTA tournaments are best to get a sense since they're actually barred based on rating). I would suspect in the US your rating would be between 3.5 and 4.0 and probably closer to a 4.0 at this point and your opponent is a solid 4.5 player

      Yeah, it's especially impossible to judge a rating where there's a big gap, because by definition, the stronger player is not required to show their best. There is a natural tendency after winning 6-0 to relax, experiment with different things, and basically pursue other goals besides humiliating your opponent to the maximum. The only way to really know if you are a 5.0 it to play against a 4.5 and beat them or play against 5.0 and hold your own. Judging based on how strokes look or how badly you beat lower players just won't work. With that said, if you have no actual evidence he's a 5.0, it's much more likely he's a 4.5, just because that's much more common.
