These days I have watched several productions of this opera in RUclips, and can say that the way this Calaf sings "VINcero" the first time (that is, when he sings "al alba vincero"), that very first syllable, VIN-cero, has been my favorite. Such sensitivity! Unique! I would like to know what production this was, their names, etc. I saw Turandot in person about eight years ago at the Kennedy Center by the Washington Opera, and fell in love with this opera.
Estas puestas en escena disruptivas quieren serlo tanto que ya terminan en lo estúpido, la parodia y el ridículo absoluto. Y las personas acá aplaudiendo: "Es la mejor producción que he visto". ¿Y cuántas ha visto? ¿O cuánto conoce de ópera? ¿Ha conocido a los grandes registas como Zeffirelli, Strehler, Schenck, Vick, etc para que se atreva a decir que esto es de lo mejor? ¿Ha escuchado a divas como Nilsson, Marton, Dimitrova, Cigna, Eva Turner, Inge Borkh cantar este rol? Si las respuestas son "no" entonces mejor guarde silencio. Por lo demás musicalmente e iniciando por la afinación de la orquesta todo bastante cuestionable. La calidad de los solistas lamentable. Pero hoy lo único importante es la puesta disruptiva. La gente se quedó sorda.
I find myself in agreement with some of the other commts here. I am unsure whether or not i have watched thee worst production of Turandot or the best. I suppose if it has left you thinking, well it can't have been all bad. Thank you regardless for posting it.
@@zbynekvydra8210Exactly. How many lyric soprani have wrecked their voice trying to sing the role of Turandot. Way too many. Just be a great lyric soprano and leave the dramatic soprano roles to the actual dramatic soprani.
This is the best opera ive ever seen... the otherwordly design is not off putting at all, it's very unique and expresses the message in a very clear and touching way😭 the last part made me cry so hard

Opera is very silly, purposefully so 😄 It's not supposed to be boring or rigid. Before Wagner came along the performances used to be social events. People would drink, eat, talk a bit. Wagner kind of started the trend of "sit still and in silence for the entire thing". Which is especially cruel, since his operas are about 3-5 hours long...
Same. But this libretto is notoriously ridiculous (especially the third act), so may as well interpret it in an equally ridiculous manner. At least the singing is pretty good.
The first opera I ever saw was a Boston production of Moses und Aaron when I was in college many years ago. I did not understand the music of Arnold Schoenberg and I still don't. But this is lovely. OK, I've heard two other Turandots that were more traditional in approach. Still, it's Puccini! And in the middle of a sleepless night in a dreary June three weeks from my 80th birthday, I'll take it and be glad.
At the beginning the production reminds of Blade Runner, then just as I'm getting used to that, the end of the first act turns into Carrie, the Musical.

Well this is the only production that make me feel turandot really got feelings and yes!! calaf is only in love with turandot's beauty with her facade nothing more or do you think he loved the way she puts to death her suitors?? this is not a love story
@@GitanAnimex No it's a political story but it's never done like this and the production here doesn't really understand that either. Calif's obviously been given the answers to the riddles by the Emperor because he's sick of his daughter's shenanigans. However, Turandot has to change thru understanding love or the story doesn't make any sense and like most operas just becomes thoroughly depressing which the composer clearly did not intend.
@@GitanAnimex Yes but he obviously knew the story he was putting the music to before he died and the guy who finished it simply reused many of the themes already written in the opera. The reason I like this opera is because it doesn't indulge in the usual hack tragic ending. Which makes directors who do this cliche mongers.
Nothing wrong with the set, amazing set, yeah Star Wars but who cares. But oh god, do we always have to suffer the cliche of aging fat opera singers? Can't we regenerqte a Corelli and Callas to give the idea that a man can be so captivated by a woman's beauty that he's prepared to throw away his life. I'd rather a young Sofia Loren mime Turandot that have to see pudgy warblers try to convince us.

Ermonela Jaho is without doubt the most breathtaking soprano I’ve heard since Mirella Freni. The production could be better.
