    Could you please describe what ionomer was used and in what amounts or perhaps link to the reference paper?

    Really nice video GAIA Fuel Cell! Thank you for the quality of the information! May I ask you one question about the fabrication of the MEA. If I well understood, you only need 3 different types of machines to fabricate a whole MEA (Roller mixer, rod-coating device and a hot press)? ...There is no need to have a Ultrasonic Catalyst Coating Systems?

    I haven’t try to make a MEA, but, I can understand to the preparation of the MEA, easily. Thank U, this video is very useful ^__^b

    Thanks for the informative video. I have a question regarding the coating substrate. Is that a regular PTFE foil or a special kind like ETFE? What is its thickness?

      Hello Shirin, you're welcome, thank you for watching! The coating substrate is a standard PTFE foil with a thickness of ~50 µm.

    Hi. I wanted to ask why use alcohol here? I mean is there a specific reason for this?. I have also read that we could use glycerol? I am a bit confused here

      Hello Yousaf, are you referring to the section of the ink preparation for fuel cell electrodes where we used 1-propanol and water as solvents or to a different preparation step?

      The detailed composition always need to be optimized according to the desired properties of the ink. Dependent on the materials, different weight ratios may result in more homogeneous electrodes and an improved fuel cell performance. To give an example, the ionomer-to-carbon weight ratio in one of our publications was varied between 0.65, 0.40 and 0.25 (doi.org/10.1149/2.1621704jes).

    Your video is very clear on the assembly of MEA , but i got some questions on the preparation of the MEA . What is the yellow membrane of the two sides? How long is the hot pressing time? Hope to hear from you.

    • @gaiafuelcell-europeanproje9924
      @gaiafuelcell-europeanproje9924 4 года назад

      Thank you very much for your question and your interest in the preparation of MEAs. The shown foil serves as a protective layer for the proton exchange membrane to avoid any contamination. In general, the hot-pressing takes between 3 and 10 minutes, dependent on the properties of the catalyst layer. If you would like to read more about this topic, I would kindly recommend you to have a look at the publications from the Chair of Technical Electrochemistry (TUM), for example this one: doi.org/10.1149/2.1621704jes.

      @@gaiafuelcell-europeanproje9924 Thank you very much for your reply, and I also want to know what is the "ionomer" exactly means ?

    • @NathCr
      @NathCr 4 года назад

      @@leealan7679 In general, the term “ionomer” refers to polymers that contain an electrically neutral backbone combined with ionized side chains. In the field of PEM fuel cells, those ionomers are usually composed of perfluorinated polymers with perfluorocarboxylic acid or perfluorosulfonic acid side chains since they provide both a good chemical stability and a high proton conductivity.
