New space looks disco 🪩 Your computer... error reminded me of a friend who had one of those automated insect robots, and it generated a leak. Unfortunately they hold more than water so that stripped all the paint down one wall (it was mounted high up). Small mercies 🤣

I tapped out of doing goals a while ago because I either overestimated what I can do in a year or underestimated. Both suck 🤣 I’d say if I wanted to do more of something this year it would be focus on me and my friends - I’m a bit over the epic scale dystopia out there and it feels like mindfully talking with people I know might be the antidote.

I like how you read a shit tonne of books in December and I was pretty pleased to finish just one 🤣 Have you read "Quit: The Power of Knowing When to Walk Away?" It's by Annie Duke, it's a pretty mentally disruptive book you may get a kick out of. Don't fret about losing the 2nd pass, the re-recording was superb and honestly if losing a video was the worst that happened to me on RUclips I'd consider it a win!

How I decide what to work on: "Well, I had this great idea in the shower..." 🤣 It's usually the ideas that won't leave me alone. Like you, I've got a seasoning that I use when I write, so the idea needs to map to themes or it gets fired as scrap into the sun 😊

I feel like a thing you're touching on here is the "1,000 true fans" challenge. You want to write in multiple genres, or deeper etc., and it's hard to get people to follow you. But you know, I bet Neil Gaiman could write anything and his true fans would buy it anyway. Now the hard thing 🤣 is finding those fans; I don't think it's hard because of an individual's writer's quality, but rather because readers are being dragged by the nose in a thousand different directions so getting their attention long enough to explore your back catalogue is *tough*, man. It almost feels like it's far less about quality and more about how you can be an attention lighthouse 🙁

I appreciate the reminder that physical reading, rather than audiobook listening, forces one to be more present!

This has more of the classic Camp NaNo vibe where we were broken up into "cabins." You could support people outside of your normal region. I'm going to look into this more. It seems like a fun alternative to NaNo.

It's crazy to hear how much you read! I set a goal last year to read 12. 12! And I didn't even mange it. I got stuck in some really hard to get through books and it messed up the goal. I started a little book club with a friend this year, so we can both start reading more. Hopefully that'll help.

I'm always in awe of writers who can do pre-orders. I'd be canceling them all the time, which I know Amazon doesn't like you to do. Preorders just stress me out lol. Sounds like you made the right decision. <3

I think I've read three books this year, maybe you should move your body rather than sitting down reading a bunch of useless books 🤡

That’s so many books! I’ve read just over 100 books (including some audiobooks) and I feel like that’s a good number for me. I can read a lot but still enjoy each one and not feel like I’m racing through them.
