Welcome to my second RUclips channel! Here, I make bookish and writerly content. I love to do live-streams, because there is no editing! I hope I look back on this channel as a record of all my writing. It will be cool to say, "That's when I created that novel or piece of work--in general." :)

First book review of 2025! I wanted to wait until my book club met to give this review. It's nice to have other perspectives. I've never read this author before, but I would like to read him again.

My 2025 Reading and Writing Planner Stack | My Reading and Writing Journals In 2025, I'm focusing on reading more, and I'm told consistency is key. I know a planner for every subject doesn't always work for people, but I use them mostly to record rather than to plan. Hopefully, this video will help you understand my process, and you can tweak my system to work for you! Happy New Year :D

OCTOBER WRITING ANNOUNCEMENTS | PREPTOBER |QUARTERLY GOALS | READING FAILS
Wow, that looks interesting! Can you make a video walking through the time measurements and the reasons for the 1 hr timer and 2 hr timer? How would you use the timer if you plan to do several Pomodoros with timed breaks (5 mins or a bit longer)? :)
Thanks for sharing this method. This will come in very handy for tracking my writing a scrapbooking projects. Thank you for sharing.
I had no idea you’d written 3 books. Congratulations, that’s fantastic! I’ll be releasing them on this challenge as I finish reading books. My old reviews have been removed to start in a new direction 😊
Where can I find your book reviews? Do you like Karin slaughter books? Hers are excellent? I’m reading the Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly after finishing his Lincoln Lawyer series. All tremendous reads. I’ve written three novels and over 600 poems but I don’t have much time for writing anymore. Maybe I could embrace short fiction. I’ll have to learn more about it.
Definitely a night time reader. Can’t focus any other time.
I read mostly audio books during my commutes to and from work. I have to work much harder to read actual books on my kindle and kobo. I also have a reading journal and tracker in a hobo day free a6 for the tracker and reviews and a LT1917 for my reading journal (stats, charts, collections, etc.) I check out books from my library on my kindle. Amazon music now allows you one book a month as well. Great to notice this channel of yours. I knew about the planner one but not this one:)
I mostly audiobook during chores and when I’m getting ready. I have my JBL speaker so I can hear in the shower 😂
Same same. It's the fear of finishing something 😢 how to fight it? I feel motivated somehow in starting something but always avoid of ending it. 😢 As a result zero outcome. It's like all dreams and goals were put into action but no output. 😢
I found someone in my life with very limited time to offer me and made a deadline with them about when I was going to hand over the finished work. I knew they had set aside the time for me, so I didn’t want to let them down and that became more powerful than the anxiety of finishing. I hope this answers your question, I’m not sure if this is the type of anxiety you mean. Sending good vibes! You got this!
It's just time blocking?!
I like your setup here🎉🎉🎉🎉
Your explanations are so clear. I'm looking at how to use this method for my work and home projects and tasks. If you could do a video about that I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks for sharing! Very Interesting!
Great! Thank You! Will try it!
Did the Kansas board worked out?
I'm doing this right now for preptober and NaNoWriMo. How did this work for you last time? Will you do another one (and show the results?).
I just discovered the Alastair method a couple days ago. Then I discovered what is being called the Calendex by the creator. Neither works for me 100% of the time. So, I will be experimenting with a modified version of the calendex and the modified versions of the Alastair method you showcased in this video.
Rewatched your video, loveed it all over again.
Good job. Not much of a planner like this. I discover write everything.
Interesting system. I write a very brief summary of what needs to happen in each chapter. I'm editing this nano
This is super helpful, just what I’ve been looking for! Thanks so much, Sylvia!
Thanks for watching 🙂
Great!👍 I should see what's NaNoWriMo 😶
I love the sprints sticky notes! I'm definitely going to print myself a couple copies. :D
Yay 😁💜
I love those sticky note printable
Thank, Lady! 💜💜
Great video.
Thank you 😊
I hope you do writing vlogs. I would love to see more on this page. though I do enjoy your planner page as well.
love your setup thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Yeah 🥳🥳🥳
Rose Lynn!!! I’ve missed you 😀
What a cool aunt! 🙂
I have never heard of this method. Mind blowing how the simplest things help us in such major ways. I will definitely be adapting this into my writing and to do list routines. Thank you for this.
Loved the video! Could you put out the link from where you got the erasable pen? I tend to make a lot of mistakes when writing with ink.
this method is quite similar with Gantt chart
I have used the Alastair method for my weekly tasks for several months, and it works (almost) like magic.
Totally agree, this is a great method. I use it for my weekly tasks. Writing down tasks daily is too much of a chore and would fall by the wayside really fast.
Cool video. Just subscribed your channel. Nice work.
I have several sets of these and I love them. I'm going to pull them out and start writing again. 😀 thanks
You're funny!
These are so cool, thanks!
😂 Bold of you to assume I'm one of the cool kids! But thank you for the shoutout! I was using the rory's classics set with the fantasy add-on (which is nowadays part of the larger fantasia set). And I just made my own version of dice too!
This is a very neat method. Very organized and minimalistic.
Thank you 😊
This was so very helpful! I thought the allistair method was the pinnacle of organization but this is really awesome! Seems like it would actually motivate one to be more productive for those of us who love to fill in boxes;) this was a really great tool! Thank you!
I have a different take on the blank space, and it might help others. If you didn’t use all the time for the task, and the task is done, then it’s just found time for other things. Like the old adage, over promise and under deliver, or the flip side give yourself margin time for life happening and then you don’t have to catch up later because you have built in being slightly ahead of the minimum. I would not like overflowing the allocated space and so adding extra to something would make me feel like I hadn’t planned well enough. Just a different thought. Good video and I like your take on Matt’s process. I had seen his videos a few times and it never really sunk in. This time it did. I can also see it working for things other than time. I am participating in NaNoWriMo this year for my first time. The goal is to write 50,000 words throughout November. I figured out how many days I actually have to write, 15, and then divided into the goal to get the daily minimum word count, 3334 words. To add that life buffer I mentioned above, I’m going to bump that to 4000 words per day. I could see making the same bar graphs for 4 hours of time per day, but each 15 minutes square would be equal to 500 words. I am picturing a page, or two, with 15- 16 squares bar graphs to use to track the words accomplished. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this, and thus helping me with figuring it out.
Yes, every system should be adapted to fit your needs. I’m glad you got something out of this video. Good luck with your NaNo goal.
I haven't seen a concept like this before. It's interesting but I think I'd forget to fill it in, lol. I struggle to keep a tracker going daily. But it is a great idea for knowing where you are allocating you're time each day.
This is my first time using this system! We’ll see how it goes 😆 I’m trying to get better at tracking.
Love it
Thanks Sylvia, I'm going to try this 👍
I hope it works for you 😊
I’ve never heard of this method- Thank you for this video! This would be great for my work planner too.
I hope it helps 🙂
I was ready for 2020 to be over like a week into it lol. I did not have a good first half of the year, regardless of the quarantine situation. So I didn't get any of my goals done, and the plans I was making last year around the same time...I'm back to making those same plans. XD That adds to the frustrating feeling of not being productive or making progress and being stuck in a cycle. I talk about this in the videos I have yet to finish editing to post, which I will get to eventually lol. But I totally feel you on the FOMO as well because even though many of my plans changed this year, I still want to do NaNo, even if I do it in my own way. I don't know about Preptober either since I might not have too much to plan, but we'll see. I haven't read many books either this year, which I'm bummed about, but the ones I have read since summer are all nonfiction and it's been a nice change of pace. I'm definitely looking to increase and vary my reading habit next year. As well as branch out in my writing projects. I'm totally using these last few months to cement my 2021 plans and get a head start because I KNOW life likes to get in my way, haha. Thank you for sharing, Sylvia, I'm looking forward to more videos about Preptober and NaNoWriMo! :D
I have pushed to get my edits done in September so I will be able to devote the time to Preptober and Nano. I do have to make the corrections to the manuscript since I'm crazy and scheduled my book to come out in November. Good luck on your goals!
Thank you! I hope your launch is every 😊
2020 has been rough on everyone, so don’t be too rough on yourself. I didn’t reach many of the goals I set, BUT I did pivot into new ones. I hope you can do the same during this last quarter! (Also, just subbed, love how frank you are ❤️)
Thank you! Yes, I am hard on myself.
I’m giving up Happy Planner to focus on my new Hobonichi Weeks mega. My plan for 12 in 12 has been moved to next year (2021)
I’ve still have not used happy planner🤣
I humbly have to ask, do you think it's possible, considering it's 2020, you are being too hard on yourself? Expecting to follow through on all plans and ignoring YOURSELF (emotions, energy level, and all the chaos of this year) simply isn't realistic. Look at all the goals you mentioned. What is the ONE accomplishment that would bring you the most fulfillment? Maybe focus on completing that from now until December. We have to be kind to ourselves, too!
This was very sweet, and I thank you 😊 I will be finishing my WIP for NaNo and if there is time in December-a new novel!
@@sincerelysylviawrites9751 you are welcome! And I had never heard of Prep-tember--thank you for the intell. You take care & happy writing!
