Friends of Poynton Pool is made up of a group of locals who came together due to a shared appreciation of Poynton Park, its trees & its wildlife. We formed in October 2022 in response to the Cheshire East Spillway Proposal. We are now an official Community Group, with a formal constitution.

The initial focus of Friends of Poynton Pool has been in finding an environmentally friendly alternative solution to replace the proposal put forward by Cheshire East Council to improve the Spillway at Poynton Pool (planning application reference 23/4152M). This proposal would see 78 trees & two 40m sections of Hawthorn Hedgerow removed with 49 trees & 10 groups also identified to be impacted by the proposals. Trees adjacent to where the works are taking place are at risk from construction activities & windthrow.

The group has been fortunate to be joined by people with specialist professional experiences in this area who have been instrumental in putting alternative solutions forward.
