Breakeven analysis in Excel, Part 2: The breakeven formula and the Scenario Manager
A breakeven point is set of values for the variables in a problem that results in total costs equaling total profit. Here we see how we can use Excel to find the breakeven point with a linear cost function and go further to explore how profit changes with changing variable values.
This video is a continuation of "Breakeven analysis in Excel, Part 1: The breakeven model with Data Tables and Goalseek".

Sensitivity analysis for linear programs, Part 3: The 100% Rule
Просмотров 6282 года назад
This final part of this series on sensitivity analysis talks about when and how you can change more than one right-hand-side or more than one objective function coefficient in a linear program.

In this second part of this series, we interpret the OFCR (objective function coefficient range) for the variables in the Standbridge Pharmaceuticals problem.
Sensitivity analysis for linear programs, Part 1: Right-hand-side ranging
Просмотров 2902 года назад
This video uses the Standbridge Pharmaceuticals problem developed in my video Linear Programs in Excel, Part 1. This part of the current series talks about how to make Excel generate the sensitivity report for a linear program and how to interpret the RHS (right-hand-side) range report.
Formulation and LP in Excel

We formulate a new linear program scheduling workers in a lab, then show how to enter the program into Excel. We then solve the program using Excel's built-in Solver.

We introduce "The Lego Problem" in which we make tiny pieces of furniture out of Lego blocks and look at how it can be represented in multiple ways. By the way, this problem makes an excellent in-class exercise.
Linear programming formulation and the Recipe Error
Просмотров 582 года назад
When formulating a linear program, most students will be tempted to write a constraint that specifies the "ingredients" that go into making a "product". This kind of constraint is never correct. Here, we'll look at the error, how to recognize it, and how to fix it!
Graphical Solution of Linear Programs Part 3: Possibilities and Tricks
Просмотров 282 года назад
In this final video on the graphical solution of linear programs, we present a few tricks to make it easier to avoid mistakes in this work. We also talk about the four possible categories of linear programs: those with a unique optimal solution, those with multiple optimal solutions, those that are impossible to satisfy at all, and those that would allow solutions that are "infinitely good". We...
Graphical Solution of Linear Programs Part 2: Finding the optimal solution

Once you've found what combinations of variable values are _possible_ in a linear program, you need to find which of those combinations is best in light of your goal. This video, Part 2 of a series, shows how to do this. The third and final part of this series shows you a few tricks to make this work easier and investigates four different kinds of behavior that a program may demonstrate.
Graphical Solution of Linear Programs, Part 1: The feasible region
Просмотров 942 года назад
When a linear program (LP) has only two decision variables, it can be solved by creating a graph representing the program's constraints and objective. Such pictorial representations also give us better intuition about how the pieces of the program fit together. This video focuses on representing the constraints, allowing us to shade the region of possible answers.

This it the first of a two-video series on creating and working with a breakeven model in Excel. A breakeven point is a set of values for variables that result in total cost equaling total profit.

What you describe at the end is something I have always always found odd and and never spent the time trying to figure out - basic counting. My kids struggled with it when in elementary school. Sometimes you start counting with "the one you're one" and sometimes you start counting with the "first one you get to". (and in programming arrays you start counting with 0!) Glad to see you're still at it - I was in your class at JMU, I think 1988, and you helped me greatly after I graduated with the Factory Outlet Store order entry/distribution problem.

Thank you. I understood Paretos but my masters analytics teacher can’t teach for shit so I had to remind myself how to make one lol

Been trying to work this out on my own for ages, thank you for uploading this!! Could not work out how to get a count for how many people I had in each column. Absolute saviour.
