I don't like those little fire ants. We have them here in Waikiki. Tiny little ants that seems to bite me on my butt and back from time to time when I'm sitting on the couch. They come from the outside when it rains and somehow make it to my couch and zap! Itches for a long time! One of my friends said to just wash with water where you got bit and it supposed to take away the itching. So I tried it and it works lol! But I still hate the sting when it bites. It's not as bad as those tropical red ants at Ala Moana Beach park that hurts like a bee sting, but it still stings a little and itches like crazy!

I heard in TN state they made a permenent hole for applying pest irregularly...to prevent rhinoceros....

Today the agri scientist failed to prevent rhino attack.They haven't a permenent solution,any type of pest application...

Politicians are the only invasive species you meed address. Get them out. Rule yourself

CRBs are not that harmful for the coconut palm trees. Red beetle ,another beetle type that enters tru the holes/ puncture that made by the CRB and then multiplies.....

now in 2024 they are statewide especially here on the big island ,, they are destroying palms here in Hilo by the hundreds we've lost about half of the palms on our muni golf course and town areas sadly no ones stepped up when we all new something was up with the palms but state / county didn't do shite about it as usual per hilo side ,, same with the coqui frogs when first hit the island or fire ants for that matter all completely 100% out of control at this point I've even lost pets to fire ants ,,, and now just this week have found a huge amount of coconut beetle larvae in my garden ,, going to AG today to see whats my best option for control but if i have them so do all my neighbors just one more dagger in our Keaukaha community ,, only hope is because we've seen a increase in tourist in our area from about 1000 to 0ver 10,000 per week the state / county will step up to protect the newly renovated parks to protect their tourist investment ,, sad but true

Drain spirals are everywhere in the natural world thanks to us humans.

maybe release some goats or sheep species that are browsers especially in areas where it is in high number... or find the animal that eat the seeds of this tree in their native range, at the same time finding the predator of those bugs in P. new guinea so you create a ecosystem.

Jonathan Ho, I have questions and doubts about your agencies effectiveness and it revolves around the managers that you have that are charged with being the first, and front line defensive mechanism of Hawaii to prevent the invasion of these species in Hawaii. EVERYTHING passes through your managers hands and processes and should be stopped at this level. Front line workers tell stories about managers that literally kill efforts and cause short term and short sighted eradication efforts that are only contract long, and once the money dries up, these problems become swept under the rug and new contracts for new problems are necessary. Please speak to the problems you see with the overall system you work with that has bottlenecks, misuse, waste, theft and misappropriation of funds and other problems that underly the efforts your office makes to control and far.more importantly for you, PREVENT the existence of these noxious species in our Islands. How do your managers instruct the workers to do the very important front line work of being the defense for our fragile defenseless symbiotic ecosystem that IS Hawaii Nei? How can things be changed and improved to make this issue of the most importance? I propose constitutional amendments that simply charge the government of Hawaii to prioritize the State Motto and fulfill its requirements.

I always loved all rhinoceros beetles but I live in hawaii and I like emm. They destroy palm trees but there's billions of palms. And coqui frogs don't do anything so you can't really complain.

What if there was a way to increase egg production by genetically selecting individuals that produce more eggs. Or if they have a marine ancestor it probably lays more eggs. Perhaps the gene related to egg production could be modified. If the wolf snail was native the tree snails would probably have larger clutches of eggs. Could this be a possible solution?

Im just pasting this here bc I was curious about it: Pathogens contributing to rapid ohia death Rapid 'Ōhi'a Death (ROD) is caused by two strains of the fungus Ceratocystis that until now, where unknown to science. Ceratocystis lukuohia, destroyer of 'ōhi'a and Ceratocystis huliohia, turning of 'ōhi'a. Both fungi infect and kill 'ōhi'a by attacking the vascular system of the tree.

Hello, I recently watched a video in which someone from Hawaii mentions being required to kill 1 mongoose a day by a farmer he worked for years ago and drowning them in a bucket. I said that sounded like a disgusting way to kill an animal, and he said that was the quickest and most effective because of the traps, although he didn't like doing it. So, how are they supposed to be dealt with?
