The Aeon Wanderers are Owen Hodgson and Andrea Kremer. Owen, a onetime geologist and student of psychology based in Scotland, has been writing and recording orchestral pop under the name "Thinking Aloud" since 1988, with recent collaborative side projects including The Aeon Wanderers and So?. Andrea is a former music biz professional who spent much of her career promoting artists at Rounder Records and Q Division Records, as well as booking shows at venues in her hometown of Boston, before deciding to take a turn in the spotlight herself.
When they're not working on their own music, Owen and Andrea are also a creative/design/audio/video production team for hire, and have produced hundreds of music videos, websites, theme songs, voiceovers, animations, CD art, gig posters and more, for a wide variety of clients. A New England (cover - Kirsty MacColl / Billy Bragg)
As we say goodbye to 2024, let's take a break from the mid-winter greys and time-travel back a few months to peak fall foliage for this little rendition of Billy Bragg's classic, made even more famous by the late, great Kirsty MacColl.
Back in October, the two of us were both, unusually, in the same place at the same time - namely New England, and the autumnal shades had us trying to choose songs we could do with a New Englandy theme. Well, there's one that literally has those words in its title, even if it's not actually referring to north eastern USA, so how could we not?
Look out for an errant leaf getting in on the act. ;) Shot on location around New England.

Well, here we are at the end of 2024, and… somehow it’s deja vu all over again, in so many ways - indeed, it seems as if we ARE going back. So in the spirit of the season, here’s another of our slightly twisted Christmas originals (completed literally today!), in which we wonder: what will become of Yuletide cheer? Will orange be the new red? What’s it like to drink rum straight from the bottle...
Cowtown (cover - They Might Be Giants)
Просмотров 96Месяц назад
So last month we were about to post this little fun They Might Be Giants song when world events cast a bit of a pall on stuff. So we did a different TMBG song instead. Anyway, one month and a bit on, perhaps there's enough headspace for us to indulge in this little bit of nonsense for a couple of minutes. So join us as we go on down to Cowtown - a song that dates back to something like 1977, ac...
When Will You Die? (cover - They Might Be Giants)

For your delectation, we had a super-cheerful They Might Be Giants cover ready to go this month (Nov 2024), but then suddenly the atmosphere in the room changed, and it didn't seem to fit the mood any more. Unfortunate, but maybe another time. Coincidentally, one of us went to see TMBG live in Glasgow on 5th November and they closed their show with a song from their 2011 album, "Join Us". Knock...
Don't Go Breaking My Heart (cover - Elton John & Kiki Dee)

This one's been a long time coming - recorded last year, we finally got a video made last week after managing to be in the same place at the same time for the first time in nearly a year. In a nod to the original, it's a one-take video with two cameras (the original used three!), but features no dungarees. Please join us in sunny Massachusetts for our cover of this classic duet originally sung ...
Dear God (cover - XTC)

It's 1986 and this Andy Partridge-penned number, inspired by a series of children's books of the same name which he considered exploitative, appeared as the B-side of the band's single, "Grass". He wasn't completely happy with the lyrics, and didn't include it on the album "Skylarking", however when college radio in the USA picked up the B-side (with perhaps predictably controversial consequenc...
Ordinary World (cover - Duran Duran)

A song about how things change and nothing's quite how it was before - and no matter how we want to turn back time, and return to the normality we knew before, more often than not we have to make the most of where we are now. It's been a mad few months for us, which have had us wishing we could find our way back to the ordinary world! Started in October last year (which might give some indicati...
Total Eclipse of the Heart [full length] (cover - Bonnie Tyler / Jim Steinman)

There was a meme going around last week that pointed out how the maximum length of totality for yesterday's North American total solar eclipse was roughly the same length as the Radio Edit of Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" ... and that "you know what to do!" So we did! However, the "Radio Edit" is only 4 minutes-odd long, and the full song tops out at over 7 minutes. So naturally, ...
The Lost Words Blessing (cover - The Spell Song Ensemble)

In 2007, a new edition of the Oxford Junior Dictionary omitted forty words, all names of common plants and animals, that had apparently fallen so far out of use by children that they no longer warranted inclusion. The “lost” words included acorn, fern, heron, kingfisher, newt, otter, wren, and willow. New words were included in their place: blog, broadband, bullet-point, cut-and-paste, and voic...
Easy Lover (cover - Philip Bailey & Phil Collins)
Просмотров 388Год назад
It seemed like a no-brainer, when we were contemplating famous duets, to try to tackle a cover of “Easy Lover,” as originally performed by noted Englishman Phil Collins, and his soulful sidekick Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind & Fire. Less obvious was what to do about a video. We watched the original video many times. It has everything: helicopter flight! Costume changes! Dancing! Goofing around i...
You Can Call Me Al (cover - Paul Simon)

Those who saw our cover of Simon & Garfunkel's "The Boxer" will recall Andrea's star turn as Paul Simon at the end - well we've scooted forward a decade and a half or so for her to reprise the role in this cover of "You Can Call Me Al" from his solo album "Graceland". And if you've seen the original video for this song, you can probably predict what's coming visually. If you have not, then ... ...

A handful of frightful things from They Might Be Giants, interpreted by us for this All Hallows Eve! Weirdly this is our first full-production TMBG cover; despite us both being fans we've only done one live-to-camera recording previously - time we rectified that, for sure!

Question (cover - The Moody Blues / Justin Hayward)

When Owen first learned this song, back in around 1986, he would play it loudly (and badly) on pianos in his school's music room at lunchtimes, much to the chagrin of the Head of Music, @pmadamson, who would loudly exclaim, "Don't bash pianos!" Owen did not learn his lesson, and continued to bash pianos. Perhaps he should have heeded that sage advice from 40 years ago, as repeated bashing of hi...

You guys are just great. Says Orlando from Brazil.
Thank you so much! :)
I don't know the original but I'm in love with this. In a similar from could you do CSN "Cathedral"?
I like the addition of "dreaming of a white Christmas" at the end
It took me almost the whole song to figure out what the sing-along ball is 😂
Watch carefully and you may spot some ... disagreement ... going on between the two "balls". ;)
OH EM GEEEEEE u guys went there
wonderful cover version!
Thank you so much! It's a great song, and a lot of fun to cover. :)
OMG Owen..... You look just like him! Ho, Ho, Ho
Очень понравилось, кроме сцены с бананом, намёк на то, что Фредди был геем ?
The banana was a microphone stand-in, and not a reference to Freddie Mercury! :) Thanks for watching.
Love how u changed the introductions part!!!!
This rocked so hard on the UK tour! The flute solo is rad! My friends and I highfived every time
Thanks so much! It absolutely did rock - saw them in Glasgow on the day of the US election.
77k views and 432 subscribers? what the hell is youtube doing this is a masterpiece of a cover great job
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed. :)
Very nice! Love it!
Thank you! Glad you like it. :)
Could not love this more (and just saw TMBG last Saturday)!!! You guys are so awesome.
Thanks so much, Ginger! :)
You're actually together!!!! Squeee
Rare event! :)
AMAZING.
Why sing it an octave lower?
Such a great cover version with some whimsical animation. I enjoyed it a lot.
A wonderful interpretation with drama and crescendo carefully placed. Excellent!!
Thank you kindly! :)
I don't think that most people realize, including the Bangles, that this song came out at a time when Paul Simon was being challenged to write a hard rock song, this was his answer. He never really did another, though he has a lot of entertaining songs.
Great cover. Would love to hear a re-mix with more emphasis on vocals and less on instruments.
Thank you so much! We might actually have a vocals-only mix lying around somewhere...
That would be a treat to hear. Your voices create an incredible harmony. Your performance effectively delivers all the emotions, tenderness, and emphasis the song presented when first made.
It was with trepidation I started out on the journey you guys created in this vid but it just kept getting better and better. Vision and music superb. Great job.
Thank you for joining us! :)
Hey, this is cool!
Thanks so much! :)
Excellent ❤
Glad you like! Thank you. :)

Thank you!
What a beautiful cover, beautiful instrumentation, beautiful voice.
Thank you so much!
That is pretty cool.
Many thanks! It was fairly spontaneous! ;)
Good!
Thank you! :)
strong!
Thanks!! :)
Absolutely, breathtakingly beautiful, utterly beyond brilliant! The most healing, revitalizing, restorative experience I’ve ever heard and seen. The words, the voices, the images, the messages perfectly combine to flood the heart and soul with incredible love and light. Overwhelming gratitude for creating and sharing this🙏
Thanks so much! :) We can't take any credit for the words or melody, but we had a lot of fun creating our version, musically and visually. Please do check out the original at thelostwords.org
LOve it. Start in Leith with this tune, walk 500 hundred miles. Meet up with CityRocks in Eastern Europe? No voting for politicians, no violence, no smashing of windows from shops. Could we, the people make to it our friends in Siberia? It's about 5700 miles, even get the Village people on our way through France :)
Thanks for the astronomical earworm! Brill!!
Thank you, Anonymous RUclips account!
I maintain an air of dignified mystery here, too
Freddie is smiling <3
Love it!❤
I love this concept!
Great job!
I watched it stoned. Its amazing ❤
Please stop bleeping out the key words. it destroys the song when you do it.
This is a wonderfull cover and video to a wonderful & real magic Paul Simon song. Thank you so much!😊
Thank you for the kind words! :)
And the song is so culturally prophetic. You can now buy ties that have a hidden camera in it!
Too wispy
Noted! We will ramp up the dramatic ending a couple of notches next time and get rid of that excess wisp. Seriously though, comments always appreciated, and thank you for listening. :)
круто...
I didn't know how this would play out, because acting out the story of a song can come across cheesy, but both the singing and acting is done very well. It does this iconic song well.
We have occasionally been guilty of cheesiness, but always try to hit the vibe of the song as best we can if we're acting a lyric out. Glad you like it, and thanks for the kind words! :)
I remember one of my teachers playing this song to the class in the early 70s during a lesson on American History. I'm from the UK, but the point my teacher was trying to make was how this song reflected Paul Simon's sense that his country was going in the wrong direction at that time. I was fortunate enough to see Paul on his last UK tour, and this was one of the handful of S&G songs he played. I think this is a classic, which is probably an over used phrase, but you guys nailed it. Thank you.
Thanks so much! Yes, it definitely has that vibe about it. One of us is in the UK and the other in the US, so we came at it from both sides of the pond - outsider's and insider's perspectives.
Great move from the team teacher
Oh gosh your harmonies from the start 💜 love the vintage vibe to the cinematography, and the whole story it tells
Thank you again! The RSVP handover was the hardest bit to accomplish in the video, given the 3000 miles between our hands at the time! ;)
