When i was a kid, i found one at a secluded small church (ironically in Shropshire). My 2 uncles and great auntie are buried there so me and my family frequented it a lot. My mum always used to tell me that snakes were prevalent on the grounds, including Adders. This small slow worm was basking in the alcove to the church, i thought it was a stick at first, but after it moved, obviously i knew it wasn't. I didn't touch it at first thinking it might be an Adder, but some elderly man came along and taught me about it, told me what it was and then carefully picked it up and let me handle it. I know you're not really supposed to, but being fond of wildlife and especially reptiles, i wouldn't let up. I thought it was one of the cutest things i had ever some across and i was sad letting it go back into the long grass. The only snake (ish, i know it's a lizard) that i have ever seen in the wild in the UK. Still waiting to spot an Adder. I did find a wild lizard in the Peak district once, but other than that, they're all too illusive.

Hi Matt! Today, I found a frozen blindworm (very young - 15cm) on our terrace with his tail lost, a bird must have dug it up from the soil during hibernation. In the last two weeks we experienced temperatures deep below zero (normal in my country) I took the blindworm home and realized it was still alive and hopefully not seriously hurt. After a few hours, I put it in a composter in our garden, but later I was not sure whether I have done the best for him/her... Maybe I should have waited for his tail to heal? Thanks for any comment 🙂

Knowledge of this sort enriches people's lives and promotes a sense of community and appreciation and love of nature. Dr. Cath delivers this information in a particularly warm and approachable way. Whoever did this video did an outstanding job. I often have to spend a lot of time researching places before I go, and I have good mobility equipment. This video shows exactly what to expect. Whoever made this video understands the needs of disabled people, from path surface, width identifying obstacles and turning circles! turning is not well understood. I have been put in very tricky situations, being told a path is accessible when it is not. Seriously, good job.

Assuming that you took it from the wild, yes, that's quite bad. It's not fair to remove an animal from the habitat you found it in. One thing to note, though, if you live in the UK, I think it's a crime to catch and keep one, so be careful who you tell!

@@Primordial2000 You are wrong on both. Slow worms are native to large parts of Western Eurasia and have protected status in the UK. If you didn't take it from the wild, whoever sold/gave it to you is committing an offence.

Methane needs some way to absorb it and turn it into something safer because when ya gotta go they gotta go. Fossil fuels can be lowered using hydro, solar on roofs and im sure theirs more natural things that can be used. Rivers shouldnt be straight with high walls thats why it floods. I love shropshire so glad people are thinking about stuff.

Why not just publicise that it's edible, along with a few recipes? Free food after all and BlackBerry picking is still very popular. If the plant (Or recipes)are delicious, a lot might be tempted to harvest it, reducing its numbers considerably.
