Hello everyone! I just wanted to sort of update on my situation, but first, I would like to share something that happened recently. After these few years since this video was posted, I received a message on Facebook from a stranger named Sally, with sort of an odd request. She told me that she was an associate drama lecturer at Falmouth University in Cornwall England, and that her and her students were devising a play about phobias and anxiety. She told me that they had found this video of mine and identified it as a clear portrayal of the impact that social anxiety can have on someone's life, and they would like to dedicate their show to me, and use my story in their play. I was just sent a message earlier today with the video linked below, and I actually found it quite entertaining and humorous, and by the end of the video, they showed a few highlights of my video and finished it off with some kind words which I definitely took to heart. I would like you all to be able to see it here: ruclips.net/video/ZLH_XlDcadI/видео.html

Don keep facing your fears and doing challenges, i got help for my social anxiety, i'm not recovered from it, the biggest step is the greatest fear, i went to a psychologist and spoke about it, but once you do it it will make the fear smaller, the more you do it it does get easier the more you do it, keep the faith

My anxiety surfaced about the time I was 18 or 19..but did have symptoms prior. Im 53 now, and I have been on Lexapro for 10 years now. What a difference that made. I highly recommend trying that. Talk to a doctor or mental health professional.

Hi, you are lucky in the fact that you learned about it when you are young. I was in my late 60's before I learned it. The worse things is that the most popular guy in school start talking to me. On a Sat. he asked if I would go for a walk in the woods. He turned the conversation to sex and we mutually masturbated. Soon we were doing it 5 or6 times a week. We broke it off after High School. I was alone and guilty and now I'm 71 and just try to stay busy. Actually, most times I feel bad and cry. Maybe a doctor would help. Mine made me aware of my anxiety and that gives me comfort. Sexually, I am still stuck on my one I had in High School. It' has haunted my whole life. My positive advice would be to find satisfying hobby. That's my savior. Good luck and if my email comes with this, I would like to talk to you. My sexual satisfaction happens alone. Good Luck and God Bless, Do people ever leave their name or address?

37 yo. Only just realised that this a thing and its not just me being a weirdo. Tips? So far Ive been faking it. It has worked well, in social terms. I just lied and made excuses not to turn up to social gatherings and if I did get the courage to go I would just fake my way through every painstaking second. At the end of it they all thought I was awesome, what a confident amazing guy. Followed by me being curled up on the couch for 3 days reliving every second. I chose alcohol as a way to ease my anxiety, the only tip I can give is dont do this. Ive continuously hurt my family because of alcohol. Yet they dont understand that the only time I was there awesome son was when I was drinking, the other times I just never showed. I was on the couch, stuck. I am a fairly successful guy and I truly believe that the thoughts we have are irrational, although they feel real as fuck. Ive put myself out there and succeeded but after a day or two the feeling comes back. Best I can describe it now is that were living with a dragon on our shoulder, we know it doesnt exist but he feels real as fuck. Just try to ignore him and see what happens. I bet you nothing bad will happen. But when you go home at night he'll still be there. Im hoping that I can turn that dragon In to a pussy cat.

Although I don't have social anxiety, I have a social aquward ness with most people. Something that helps me is finding people that have the same interests and starting from there. For me going to concerts and meeting like minded people makes me feel not so small in this world. Hang in there you've got a lot of support.

Some people are just mean and awful. You seem like a nice guy and you seem like a perfectly fine person to chill with. People our age are so fucked up its not even right. If I lived in Florida, I'd hang out with ya and be your friend. I wish I could tell you a way I cope but I have yet to find a way with the social rejection and awkwardness. ~20 yr old female with Social Anxiety, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Panic Disorder.

I feel like this video describes me to a T. only thing is that I haven't been able to get a job and my 21st bday is this saturday. went on two interviews so far and they went really bad. being around people especially men (no offense) is a nightmare. I stay in my room most days and ponder life, sometimes I feel like crying, sometimes I do. I feel so alone.

Honestly, I believe the only way social anxiety disorder can be dealt with is through genuine social interaction. Sadly, there are not much equivalents to a smiling/sad/angry/embarrassed face of a friend/foe/relative/superior/guardian. I'm not going to say that I got over my social anxiety by talking to people, but I can say from experience that that is the single most important factor involved with social anxiety. Things I did to get over or cope with my anxiety ranged from performing in front of an audience (whether that be youtube or an actual live performance on an actual stage), to talking to a therapist. You have to put yourself out of your comfort zone, because felling safe in isolation is a curse to social anxiety, IMO. But I hope you're okay, and I mean, I hope you're not contemplating suicide, because I had my days, trust me. I can recommend keeping a journal and including in the journal, your experiences that involve fear or anxiety due to some form of interaction. Also, eventually, you can try going outside and talking to random strangers, although it didn't really work out for me (but I might try it again, it's a great way to investigate the lives of others :D) Keep your head up my friend, I know you can change (and I say all of this assuming that you're still the same guy that I saw on this video, made roughly 9 months later!) PS: I'm 20 btw, so I can relate a lot, being that I was in exactly the same situation as you, at the time you posted this video.

I love this video, because I can relate to you a 100% expect for I'm a girl and still in high school. I almost dropped out because I've been skipping school too much. Hopefully I'll be able to pull through and graduate. I feel you on the isolation thing. It's so bad that I don't speak to any of my siblings, but we were never close anyway. I'm glad you made this video and hope that you make more.

Hi there. After watching your video, I felt our situations were so similar that I had to respond to you, so I sent you this very long (EPIC) email, to your RUclips channel. Sometimes, you can't contact someone that way unless you are in their contacts list, and I don't think I'm in yours... So, I'm just checking to see if you got my message. Thanks.

Hi Donny, thanks very much for posting your video. It was very courageous of you to be so honest and open about your situation and the things that you have gone through. Like most of the people who have commented, I also have suffered with social anxiety throughout my life and continue to try to find ways to grow and get better. There are a few docs here on YT that are quite helpful which you've prob seen, just search for Social Anxiety documentary. Keep educating yourself and don't give up!

You asked what people do to try to deal with it. I try to force myself into the situations that male me uncomfortable because I read somewhere that hiding away and avoiding them reinforces these thought patterns. Anyway thanks for making the video :-). You're the first person I've told about this I guess maybe because I don't know you and I can text it it's easier haha anyway peace

I feel the same I'm too scared to talk to anyone about it which I guess you can understand hopefully. Before I started my apprenticeship I'm on atm I did hide away for a long time. Now I'm constantly stressed out because I can't hide away lol. Just normal things like shopping or walking through town freak me out! Haha. How crazy is that it makes me feel like a freak lol

Hey :-) cool video. It was good to watch I saw in one of your comments that receiving kind comments makes you feel more normal. Watching this video made me feel more normal! Haha. I've not told anyone at all but I am and have been for a long time suffering from social anxiety. I'm 25 now and I feel like it's peaking atm. I can really relate to your story it wasn't always this way. It's getting me down :-(. It feels exhausting living like this lol

I've had SA my entire life and still struggle with it to this day. I've tried the exposure therapy thing and find it just makes me feel more overwhelmed. I feel like my life is just speeding by and I'm just too afraid to try and keep up. I'm very confident and talkative via internet/texting, but any physical contact would make me super anxious. The only thing that calms me is music, writing & breathing exercises. If you ever want to talk, hit me up. Best of luck!
