Christina Victoria Grimmie (March 12, 1994 - June 10, 2016) was an American singer and RUclipsr. In 2009, she began posting covers of popular songs onto RUclips. After releasing her debut EP, Find Me (2011), her RUclips channel reached one million subscribers. After she reached two million subscribers, she released her debut studio album, With Love (2013). Grimmie then became a contestant on season six of The Voice, finishing in third place. Adam Levine, her coach on the show, announced in the finale that, regardless of the results, he would sign her to his label 222 Records. Lil Wayne also offered to sign her to his label, Young Money Entertainment. She was signed with Island Records for a short time before being dropped. Grimmie released her second EP, Side A, in 2016. That same year, she took on an acting role, making her only motion-picture appearance in The Matchbreaker. On June 10, 2016, Grimmie was fatally shot while signing autographs following a concert performance at The Plaza Live in Orlando, Florida. Side B, a follow-up to Side A, was made available on Spotify and iTunes in 2017, and in June 2017, Grimmie's second and final album, All Is Vanity, was released posthumously. In 2019, her RUclips channel reached four million subscribers, although it dropped below four million in 2020, settling at 3.91 million as of January 2024.

Tanya Nicole Kach-McCrum (born October 14, 1981) is an American woman who was held captive for ten years by a security guard who worked at the school she attended. Her captor, Thomas Hose, eventually pleaded guilty to involuntary deviant sexual intercourse and other related offenses and was sentenced to five to fifteen years in prison. Ultimately, he served the full 15 years. Thomas Hose (born 1957) was a security guard at Cornell Middle School in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, where Kach was an eighth-grade student. Hose befriended Kach, often taking her out of classes to talk to her, and one day when he caught her skipping class, he kissed her. Over time, Hose convinced Kach to run away from her family and move in with him, which she did in February 1996. She was 14 years old at the time. For the first four years, she was not allowed out of the house. Hose lived with his parents and son, and went to great lengths to keep Kach hidden from them. She was confined entirely to his second-story bedroom, and had to go to the toilet in a bucket. In 2000, Hose created a new identity for Kach, "Nikki Allen", and introduced her to his parents as his girlfriend who would be moving in with them. After this, she was occasionally allowed to leave the house but had a strict curfew. Six years later, she escaped.

Mary Katherine "Mary Kay" Fualaau (née Schmitz, formerly Letourneau; January 30, 1962 - July 6, 2020), was an American teacher who pleaded guilty in 1997 to two counts of felony second-degree rape of a child. Letourneau was 34, and the child, Vili Fualaau, was 12 years old when she initiated the sexual abuse. He was her sixth-grade student at an elementary school in Burien, Washington. While awaiting sentencing, she gave birth to Fualaau's daughter. With the state seeking a seven and a half year prison sentence, she reached a plea agreement calling for six months in jail with three months suspended and no contact with Fualaau for life, among other terms. The case received national attention. Shortly after Letourneau had completed three months in jail, the police caught her in a car with Fualaau. A judge revoked her plea agreement and reinstated the prison sentence for the maximum allowed by law of seven and a half years. Eight months after returning to prison, she gave birth to Fualaau's second child, another daughter. She was imprisoned from 1998 to 2004. Letourneau and Fualaau were married in May 2005, and the marriage lasted 14 years until their separation in 2019.

Police announced Wednesday that the killing of a 14-year-old babysitter nearly 50 years ago has finally been solved through use of DNA from the crime scene. On Feb. 7, 1977, Maria Honzell was found stabbed to death at the home where she was babysitting. “The woman who had hired Maria to babysit at the Suncrest Apartments off of North Nevada notified the Colorado Springs Police Department that she’d found Maria dead of stab wounds on the floor,” the Cold Case bio on Maria reads. “She had contacted Maria earlier in the evening and everything was OK, but she did not return home until later that night, to find Maria.” Police said the case was solved using DNA found at the scene of the killing and matching it with other samples in a public genealogy database. Some blood collected from Maria’s jumpsuit was later discovered to belong to a man. In 2019, Colorado Springs Police Department reached out to a lab to help with locating a suspect. The blood evidence was submitted to Parabon Nanolabs, a DNA phenotyping service, and they found a match. A profile was created and compared to a public database, which resulted in the identification of the suspect, William Kernan Jr., who police say died in 2010 of natural causes. Kernan was a student at a local college who officials said was an acquaintance of the woman for whom Maria was babysitting. Officials added that their investigation revealed Kernan had been to the apartment complex on multiple occasions. District Attorney Michael Allen spoke about the work that went into the case over 47 years. “We don’t stop searching for justice for victims. If there is someone out there that has committed a crime, that hasn’t been caught yet; we’re looking for you,” he said. “We are going to use every technology that develops over time to find you and bring you to justice.”

A man and woman have been accused of murdering a 74-year-old Washington state man who disappeared last month, as part of a wider financial fraud scheme, authorities said. The pair were arrested on Thursday in Southern California and will be extradited back to Washington to face homicide charges. Curtis Engeland's family reported him missing on Feb. 24, one day after authorities said he was last seen at his home on Mercer Island, in southern Lake Washington near Seattle, police said in a statement. Although police originally investigated the disappearance as a missing persons case potentially involving a kidnapping, they later found the man dead near Cosmopolis, a city some 100 miles west along the Pacific Coast. Engeland was stabbed in the neck, a spokesperson for Mercer Island police told CBS News on Monday, citing a ruling by the county medical examiner.

On 12 February 1993 in Merseyside, two 10-year-old boys, Robert Thompson (born 23 August 1982) and Jon Venables (born 13 August 1982), abducted, tortured, and murdered a two-year-old boy, James Patrick Bulger (16 March 1990[2] - 12 February 1993).[3][4] Thompson and Venables led Bulger away from the New Strand Shopping Centre in Bootle, after his mother had taken her eyes off him momentarily. His mutilated body was found on a railway line two and a half miles (four kilometres) away in Walton, Liverpool, two days later. Thompson and Venables were charged on 20 February 1993 with abduction and murder. They were found guilty on 24 November, making them the youngest convicted murderers in modern British history. They were sentenced to indefinite detention at Her Majesty's pleasure, and remained in custody until a Parole Board decision in June 2001 recommended their release on a lifelong licence at age 18.[5] Venables was sent to prison in 2010 for breaching the terms of his licence, was released on parole again in 2013, and in November 2017 was again sent to prison for possessing child sexual abuse images on his computer. He remained in prison in 2023 after his appeals for parole were rejected. The Bulger case has prompted widespread debate about how to handle young offenders when they are sentenced or released from custody.

Antron Singleton (born September 15, 1976), better known by his stage name Big Lurch, is an American rapper, poet and convicted murderer. He is serving a life sentence for murdering 21-year-old roommate Tynisha Ysais and eating parts of her body in April 2002. He was a member of the group Cosmic Slop Shop. On April 10, 2002, 25-year-old Singleton murdered his 21-year-old roommate[5] Tynisha Ysais in the apartment he shared with her and her boyfriend[6] in Los Angeles, California.[7][8] The victim was found in her apartment at night by a friend.[8] Her chest had been torn open and a three-inch blade was found broken off in her scapula. Teeth marks were found on her face and on her lungs, which had been torn from her chest. The friend testified that Singleton was naked and covered in blood, standing on the street and staring at the sky.[8] A medical examination performed shortly after his capture found human flesh in his stomach that was not his own. The victim's boyfriend said he and the aspiring rapper used PCP the day before the murder took place.[8] On November 7, 2003, Singleton was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.[7] He had been convicted of murder and aggravated mayhem the previous June[9] after pleading not guilty by reason of insanity at the time of the murder.[5][7] The defense argued that Singleton was in a psychotic state due to his use of PCP the night before the murder.[7] The court ruled that his intoxication and claimed insanity were not satisfactory reasons for committing the crime.[7] The district attorney argued that drug use can not be used as grounds for an insanity plea in California, and the judge agreed.[7][10]

An Illinois high school teacher who left one of his students to die in the woods is now a free man. Shelton says that he and Reeves were together on the day she disappeared and that there had been an incident, but swears he did not do anything to hurt the teenager. "She was screaming and kicking and everything. So I got her [out of the car], shut the door, ran the car, I took off. I left her," said Shelton. "I left her there is what I did. I left her out there ... I left her right out there." Finally, after a few more hours, Shelton tells investigators what really happened the previous day. Shelton says that he put Reeves in a wrestling chokehold that caused her to stop breathing and that he feared he had killed the young woman. So, Shelton says he decided to drag her into the woods at a local park to die. "I dragged her to a wooded area, I tied this thing around her neck to make it look like someone choked her out there," Shelton tells investigators. "I was a nervous wreck, thinking, 'What do I do? What do I do? I wanted to make it look like she had gotten, she got strangled there in the woods," he says. Shelton says that he then took a belt and repeatedly strangled Reeves, pulling so tight that he broke the belt at one point. "All of a sudden I heard like a gurgle. And when I heard the gurgle, I let go. And when I let go, she had like spit, foam, coming out of her mouth. And then I had seen that she was the sickest color I had ever seen," Shelton says. He then fled like a "bat out of hell" he says, and left the scene. Shelton then tells investigators he will take them to where he left Reeves Sam Shelton, 44, was released from the Illinois Correctional Center on Monday, 17 years after he pled guilty to attempted murder. His victim, 17-year-old Ashley Reeves, somehow managed to survive not only the barrage of attempts that Shelton said he made to end her life but also the over 30 hours she spent alone in the woods after the attack. Shelton told investigators that he killed Reeves; police thought she was dead when they discovered her body; paramedics said Reeves would not make it out of the woods alive, and doctors put her in a medically induced coma after she arrived at the hospital. Reeves somehow defied all odds and did survive, then slowly relearned how to speak and move her body over the next year. Shelton meanwhile went on to serve 20 years in prison, and on Monday, April 22, he walked free three years before completing the full sentence, with the board granting him the earliest possible release allowed by law in his case. It takes over 39 minutes of searching in the dark and rain for police to find Reeves, who they assume is dead. Then, they see the young girl breathe. She is rushed to the hospital and put in a medically induced coma while Shelton returns to the sheriff's office and shares his concerns.

Police arrested Brian Cohee in 2021 after discovering the remains of 69-year-old Warren Barnes. The incident, which involved a then 19-year-old Cohee, sparked a local investigation and is documented in the true-crime documentary "Parents Discover Teen Son's Horrifying Secret" on the RUclips channel EXPLORE WITH US. The heinous crime involved Cohee decapitating, dismembering, and mutilating Mr Barnes's body, then bringing some of the body parts home, where they were discovered by his mother. His mother on a 911 call told police that the teen had a "fascination with the morbid". In addition to the head, Mr Barnes's hands were also found by Cohee's mother, Terri, decomposing in a separate plastic bag hidden in his wardrobe. Cohee attempted to dispose of the remaining body parts by placing them in the trunk of his car and trying to drive the vehicle into the Colorado River. During the police questioning at his home, Cohee was asked, "Your parents have raised concerns about some items they may have found in your room. Can you elaborate?" Cohee responded calmly, saying, "Yes, I believe so. A human head and hands, from that man who went missing. I killed him with a knife." When pressed further by the officers about his motives, Cohee added, "I always wondered what it would feel like to commit murder." Cohee confessed to using a kitchen knife to end Barnes's life and revealed that he had been contemplating taking someone's life for six months beforehand. He further disclosed his intent to target a homeless individual or a prostitute, believing that their absence would likely go unnoticed.

Hate to say it but her lifestyle would have been a large contributing factor in her disappearance. Having numerous relationships with married men, often concurrently, and leading a secret double life even her friends and family were unaware of would not have been a life choice whereby she would have not made several enemies. There would have been many people with motive to seek her demise.

Claudia Elizabeth Lawrence (born 27 February 1974) is an English woman who was last seen and heard from on 18 March 2009. She was employed as a chef at the University of York's Goodricke College at the time of her disappearance. Although the police have treated Lawrence's case as that of murder, with various people arrested but later released, her fate is unclear. At 6:00 a.m. on the morning of 18 March 2009, Lawrence started her shift at Goodricke College's Roger Kirk Centre. She completed her shift at 2:00 p.m. and was recorded on CCTV leaving the college on foot a few minutes later. Around 3:00 p.m. she was recorded on CCTV passing a shop in Melrosegate near her home and was seen by a neighbour. During the course of the evening Lawrence spoke to both her father and mother on her mobile phone. Her mother described Lawrence's mood as normal and relaxed. The two women discussed celebrating the forthcoming Mother's Day.[7] Lawrence told her mother she was at home and that she planned to retire early since she would have to rise before 5:00 a.m. the next day in order to walk to work, her car being under repair. She sent a final text message from her mobile phone at 8:23 p.m. and a final incoming text was received at 9:12 p.m. Thereafter nobody is known to have seen or heard from Lawrence.[1]

Police began investigating the disappearance of Ramos when she failed to show up to several important events, and her body was found about two weeks later. They arrested K.C. Joy soon after, and Worst Roommate Ever dives a little into the killer, and who he was. Ramos and Joy met when he answered her Craigslist ad for a roommate in Orange, California. Ramos' sister said in Worst Roommate Ever that K.C. Joy wanted more than friendship. After Ramos told Joy he had to move, she went missing. K.C. Joy was the prime suspect from the beginning, but there was no evidence against him. That changed when a surveillance team captured Joy searching the internet for satellite images of a remote location where police found Ramos' body. K.C. Joy was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for the murder of Maribel Ramos.

On January 5, 2002, Charles J. Bishop, a high-school student of East Lake High School in Tarpon Springs, Florida, United States, stole a Cessna 172 light aircraft and crashed it into the side of the Bank of America Tower in downtown Tampa, Florida. The impact killed the teenager and damaged an office room, but there were no other injuries. Bishop had been inspired by the September 11 attacks; he had left a suicide note crediting Osama bin Laden for the attacks and praising it as a justified response to actions against the Palestinians and Iraqis and said he (Bishop) was acting on behalf of Al Qaeda, from whom he had turned down help. As officials could find no other evidence of any connections, terrorism as a motive was ruled out, and they suggested that the crash was an apparent suicide. Bishop's mother filed, then dropped, a lawsuit claiming that psychological side effects from isotretinoin caused the incident. Bishop used isotretinoin, which is known to induce depression and rarely suicidal actions, as an acne medicine.

Kelly Anne Bates (18 May 1978 - 16 April 1996) was an English teenager who was murdered in Manchester, England at the age of 17 by her abuser, James Patterson Smith (born c. 1948). She was tortured by him over a period of four weeks, including having her eyes gouged from their sockets up to three weeks before her death, before being drowned in a bathtub. The murder inquiry was headed by Detective Sergeant Joseph Monaghan of Greater Manchester Police, who said: "I have been in the police force for 15 years and have never seen a case as horrific as this." William Lawler, the pathologist who examined Bates' body, described her injuries as the worst he had seen on a murder victim. Smith, who had a history of violence and torture against former sexual partners, denied murdering Bates but was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment on 19 November 1997. The following injuries were found on Bates' body: Scalding to her buttocks and left leg Burns on her thigh caused by the application of a hot iron A fractured arm Multiple stab wounds caused by knives, forks and scissors Stab wounds inside her mouth Crush injuries to both hands Mutilation of her ears, nose, eyebrows, mouth, lips and genitalia Wounds caused by a spade and pruning shears Both eyes gouged out Later stab wounds to the empty eye sockets Partial scalping The pathologist determined that her eyes had been removed "not less than five days and not more than three weeks before her death". She had been starved, having lost around 20 kg in weight, and had not received water for several days before her death. Peter Openshaw, the prosecutor in Smith's trial, said: "It was as if he deliberately disfigured her, causing her the utmost pain, distress and degradation ... The injuries were not the result of one sudden eruption of violence; they must have been caused over a long period [and] were so extensive and so terrible that the defendant must have deliberately and systematically tortured the girl." The cause of death was drowning, immediately prior to which she had been beaten about the head with a showerhead.

A man who strangled his wife for having an online affair and dumped her body in a river has been found guilty of murder. Aminan Rahman, 46, from east London, attacked 24-year-old Suma Begum during a video call with her boyfriend last April, the Old Bailey heard. The jury was told how Rahman put her into a suitcase after choking her, at which point she might still have been alive. Rahman is due to be sentenced on 31 July. The court heard that Rahman had "most likely" killed Ms Begum "there and then" at their flat in Tower Hamlets on the night of 29 April 2023, but had at the very least "incapacitated" her before placing her body in the suitcase and dumping it in the River Lea. "If not already dead by then, she would have inevitably have drowned," said prosecutor Jocelyn Ledward. The suitcase was found 10 days later by a member of the public washed up on the riverbank downstream, still containing the body of Ms Begum. CCTV footage released by the Metropolitan Police shows Rahman leaving the block of flats, holding a child in one arm and pulling a suitcase with the other. A second clip shows him next to the river with the suitcase before throwing it in. Ms Begum had undergone an Islamic marriage over the telephone in 2019 when Rahman was in London and she was in Bangladesh, the court heard. They had first lived in Somerset as husband and wife, where Rahman worked as a chef, before moving to east London in April 2023 where they stayed at a flat in the Docklands with their two children. Ms Begum had started an "intimate" online relationship with a man her own age, Shahin Miah, who was living in the United Arab Emirates, and they "hoped in due course to be together", said Ms Ledward. On the night of Ms Begum's murder, her neighbours heard children screaming and a loud bang against the wall. That same night, the jury heard, Mr Miah received a WhatsApp video call from Rahman. When he gave evidence during the one-month trial, Mr Miah sobbed as he told jurors how Rahman had threatened to kill Ms Begum, who was in the background of the call. "She wanted to run away and then he grabbed her by the throat," he said. The court heard how Mr Miah received another call later that night in which Rahman told him: "Look, I have killed [her] and now you get ready." Mr Miah told the Old Bailey: "I saw that frothing was coming out of Suma's mouth and he showed me on the video and he was swearing at me."

A US mother who killed her four-year-old daughter by feeding her a diet of Mountain Dew fizzy drinks has been jailed. Tamara Banks, 41, was sentenced to nine to 13.5 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter over the neglect death of her daughter Karmity in 2022. The girl's father, 53-year-old Christopher Hoeb, has also pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and is due to be sentenced on June 11. Karmity died in hospital after suffering complications from diabetes, with a Clermont County prosecutor describing it as “one of the most tragic cases I have ever encountered.” Many of the girl’s teeth had rotten away at the time of her death, the court heard. Prosecutors said Banks and Hoeb fed their daughter mostly Mountain Dew through a baby bottle, reported local news channel WCPO Cincinnati. Banks' oldest son, Jerry, also told Fox News that something similar happened to his brother in 2011 but that he was saved by doctors. Mr Banks said: “One day, he just went lethargic and wouldn't move and the only thing he would respond to was sugar and for 36 hours, she [his mother] passed out in the back room.” Sentencing, Judge Victor Haddad told Banks that her son's previous condition should have made her aware that her daughter was unwell too. He said: “It's hard to be a good parent but you expect at least mediocre parents, everybody should expect that. Not knowing what to do is not an excuse.”

Reynaldo Dagsa (1975 - January 1, 2011) was a Filipino politician. A member of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team, he served as councilman for Barangay 35 in Maypajo, Caloocan until his assassination in 2011. He was also a corporal in the Philippine Army Reserve Command. His death achieved notoriety due to his taking of a New Year's Day family photo on Tuna Street which inadvertently captured the faces of both his killer and a lookout for the killer; the shooter, a convicted robber out on parole, pointed the gun in the photo directly at Dagsa seconds before the shot went off. Dagsa was rushed to Martinez Hospital but was immediately pronounced dead from a .45-caliber gunshot wound to the head. The photo was later turned over to Caloocan city police; the shooter in the photo was identified as Arnel Buenaflor, who was arrested on January 7, and two suspected accomplices, one Michael Gonzales (alias Fubo of Fish Pond Area I) and Rommel Oliva (alias Balong), were arrested by January 3 in connection with the murder. Buenaflor was charged with murder by Assistant City Prosecutor Darwin G. Canete after inquest. Buenaflor, a member of the Pasaway Gang, claimed to have shot Dagsa in retribution for being shot in the head by persons associated with Dagsa during a shootout months earlier, while police attributed a motive to Dagsa's peacekeeping efforts in the barangay.

Milwaukee police arrested Anderson in connection to Robinson's death on April 4. The Robinson family's suit says, in part, Anderson's actions "harmed the community at large, placed fear into the community, caused trauma to those who found the remains, and shocked the conscious and soul of plaintiffs to extreme degree." Robinson's leg was found in Warnimont Park in Cudahy on April 2. Her burned car was found that same week. Other body parts were found in the weeks following, including human remains near 31st and Galena, a torso and arm near 5th and Marina in south Milwaukee and an arm in Waukegan, Illinois. These additional body parts have not been linked through DNA to Robinson.

Nathan Gilmore was originally charged with first-degree murder Aug. 22, 2022, for killing 29-year-old Angela Bradbury of Mason City. Gilmore allegedly picked up Bradbury in Cerro Gordo County near the correctional facility April 6, 2021, and drove her to a home in Mason City. Bradbury later voluntarily left with Gilmore to travel to St. Ansgar where Gilmore lived. Bradbury was not heard from again. The second-degree murder charge carries a mandatory 50-year prison sentence and is a forcible felony requiring at least 70% -- 35 years -- of the sentence to be served. Gilmore was also ordered to pay $150,000 in restitution to Bradbury's family. Court filings state a human skull was found at the Cedar River Greenbelt Trail Park near Mitchell on Feb. 4, 2022. A body was later located nearby April 5, 2022, and identified as Bradbury. A forensic review of Gilmore's phone turned up disturbing messages in which Gilmore vaguely describe details of a stabbing death. Another search turned up what appeared to be a drawing of a satanic goat head along with a series of numbers. The drawing had blood droplets on it, and the numbers corresponded with the date Bradbury went missing as well as the latitude and longitude coordinates of the Green Belt trail. Gilmore has nine previous drug-related convictions.

Deanna J. Cremin (March 26, 1978 - March 30, 1995) was a 17-year-old American girl from Somerville, Massachusetts, found sexually assaulted and strangled to death near her home. No charges have ever been filed. The case deeply shocked the local community, and a $70,000 reward is being offered for evidence leading to an arrest and prosecution. On March 29, 1995, Deanna Cremin followed her usual Wednesday routine of going out with friends and visiting her boyfriend. Her curfew was 10 pm; when she was not home by midnight, her mother tried unsuccessfully to reach her on her pager. Her boyfriend, considered the last person to see Cremin alive, admits walking her home that night, but says he left her halfway, which, according to Deanna's mother, was unusual, as he had always walked her all the way home prior to that night. Cremin's body was found four days after her 17th birthday, at 8 a.m. on March 30, behind a senior housing complex, less than a block from her home. She was found by two children she babysat for who were taking a shortcut on their way to school. Her body was lying on its back, and mostly undressed. She had been strangled and sexually assaulted. An autopsy revealed she had been strangled, and her murder remains unsolved.

Solomon Galligan's family says he has been in and out of jail for 12 years but still manages to get back on the streets every time. The family of a man who is accused of grabbing an elementary school child is pointing to what they perceive as systemic failures that have repeatedly allowed him back on the streets leading him to pose a threat to himself and society. Solomon Galligan was formally charged with kidnapping and child abuse on Thursday, April 25, following an incident at Black Forest Hills Elementary School where he allegedly approached children on the playground and attempted to grab one of them. According to his family, Galligan's troubled journey began when he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder at the age of 16. "He was known for acting out, making impulse decisions, running away... not knowing where he was going," recalled Amanda Morris, Galligan's niece. At the age of 18, he fled for good, leaving his family in a perpetual state of uncertainty regarding his whereabouts-except when he's in custody. "Every six months that we find him in the jail system, we're happy he's there, because then he's not out on the streets," remarked his older sister, Sarah Galligan. His family says Galligan has been in and out of jail for 12 years, previous charges including assault, burglary, and sex crimes.

Robert Budd Dwyer (November 21, 1939 - January 22, 1987) was an American politician. He served from 1965 to 1971 as a Republican member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and from 1971 to 1981 as a member of the Pennsylvania State Senate representing the state's 50th district. Dwyer then served as the 70th state treasurer of Pennsylvania from January 20, 1981, until January 22, 1987, when he killed himself during a live press conference. During the early 1980s, Pennsylvania discovered that its state workers had overpaid federal taxes due to errors in state withholding before Dwyer's administration. A multimillion-dollar recovery contract was required to determine the compensation to be given to each employee. In 1986, Dwyer was convicted of accepting a bribe from Computer Technology Associates, a California-based company, to award them the contract. He was found guilty on 11 counts of conspiracy, mail fraud, perjury, and interstate transportation in aid of racketeering, and was scheduled to be sentenced on January 23, 1987.[5] On January 22, Dwyer arranged a news conference in the Pennsylvania State Capitol Building in Harrisburg, during which he fatally shot himself with a .357 Magnum revolver in the presence of reporters. Dwyer's suicide was live broadcast to many television viewers in Pennsylvania.

In February of 2015, eighteen year old Daylenn Moke Pua lived on the Big Island of Hawaii, but was visiting Oahu for a field trip. Daylenn was a senior at Kula 'O Ehunuikaimalino, a Hawaiian immersion school in Kealakekua, and during this field trip, he was staying at his grandmother’s house for the weekend. On the morning of February 27, Daylenn was speaking to his grandmother, Martha, about his plans for the day. He told her that he intended to go for a solo hike Moanalua Valley Park, specifically the Stairway to Heaven- a steep, 3,922 step structure formerly used for military purposes. Martha informed him that the area was banned to the public, with authorities prohibiting anyone from hiking the stairs- however, despite there being a penalty of being charged with criminal trespassing, many people still do find a way to hike the stairs. The two said goodbye to each other, with Martha thinking that her grandson would heed her warning, and not attempt to hike the Stairway to Heaven, knowing he could be arrested. However, Daylenn was planning on sticking to his original plan, and boarded a bus to bring him to Moanalua Valley Park. Daylenn began his hike up the Stairway, enjoying the lush green scenery, and occasionally texting or posting pictures of his journey, for his loved ones to see. He was never seen or heard from again.

Chad O’Melia was 26 years old when he was fatally stabbed - over 100 times - at his home in Thousand Oaks in 2018. Sean recalls his shock and disbelief. The woman who killed him, Bryn Spejcher, 33, had smoked cannabis with the victim, and the judge said she had a “psychotic break from reality” from using the drug, when she was sentenced to two years of probation and 100 hours of community service - after a jury found her guilty of involuntary manslaughter. O’Melia's father says the woman who killed his son should not have been spared prison time. The doctor of audiology saw her charge reduced from murder to involuntary manslaughter in September. This followed expert witness testimony that stated the attack was '100 percent' triggered by cannabis-induced psychosis. On the night of the attack, in May 2018, Ms Spejcher, who was not a regular smoker, took two tokes of a bong containing high-potency weed supplied by Mr O'Melia then 26, at his Thousand Oaks condo. Minutes later she began suffering hallucinations telling her to grasp a bread knife and plunge it into Chad's abdomen. The voices told her to 'keep going' with the assault, as it would 'bring her back from the dead', according to court reports. She also stabbed her dog several times as well as her self, in the neck and face, and required emergency surgery to save her life.

On Christmas morning in 2011, Za’Zell Preston’s children gathered around the tree in their Anaheim, California, home and found their mother slumped on the couch wearing sunglasses. Her husband, William Wallace, allegedly told the children that “Mommy” had gotten “drunk” and “ruined Christmas.” In fact, Wallace had killed her the night before - and then propped her up on their couch to fool the children. Wallace and Preston attended a Christmas Eve party together on Dec. 24 before getting into an argument at home. Neighbors heard them shouting, and Wallace allegedly told one of Preston’s relatives “we were drinking and during the argument I tossed her around a bit.” The next morning, Wallace brought Preston out of their bedroom and set her up on the couch as Preston’s two children opened presents. “Mommy ruined Christmas, she got drunk and ruined Christmas,” he allegedly told them.
