I loved gothic even before I knew what ot was. My brother gave me Poes collected storied as a kid for christmas and he is now one of my favourite authors.🖤

The show on netflix hs nothing to do with Poe just stole the name for views also it’s horrible!

Oh thank heavens, I've already read most of these, and of the ones I haven't read, most are already on my library holds list. I say that because recently I watched a gothic recs video, and my TBR ended up 9 books longer! It's funny that you say you didn't realize you were a gothic fan. I was the same: I saw a list of 50 classic horror books, and I'd already read about 40 of them, which made me realize I'm a horror fan! Not only of gothic, but I do love the atmospheric spooky vibe of gothic. I love Rebecca! I've become quite the Du Maurier fan. If you haven't read it, I think My Cousin Rachel is even better, though I'm not sure it could be classified as gothic. Just yesterday I finished "All the Dead Lie Down" -- and it was FANTASTIC! Uncle Silas is another novel by Sheridan Le Fanu, very gothic as well.

New to your channel and this is a great list!! Checking out Gormenghast and The Bloody Chamber ASAP. I’m not sure if you’ve read it, but I highly recommend What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher! It’s a very unique take on The Fall of the House of Usher, and Kingfisher is known for her blend of horror and witty humor. I also just finished The Third Wife of Faraday House and though it’s not the best thing I’ve ever read, it’s a fun spooky time! And I’m so glad you mentioned House of Salt and Sorrows bc my hold from the library just came in, it’s gloomy and rainy where I am atm, so it literally cannot be any more perfect 🌧️👻

I LOVE Gothic Fic! I'm on a big Gothic kick right now. Reading a bunch this month and last, but in regards to this list, recently finished Jane Eyre and loved it! One of the books I'm reading now is a witchy Jane Eyre retelling, Salt and Broom by Sharon Lynn Fisher.. will finish today.. so good! Also reading The Picture of Dorian Gray.. audiobook narrated by Ben Barnes who played him in the movie.. should finish today or tomorrow. Next physical read is a Gothic Fic published this year, The Shadow Key . sorry forgot the author.. but it sounds creepy and mysterious... can't wait!

Carmilla is what led to my descent into gothic novels and I’m so glad it did because I’ve been loving this genre! Also I have that version of Frankenstein and just started reading it!

For matcha, I read somewhere that whisking in an "M" shape back and forth until it starts to foam is the best way to do it - about 20 seconds or so. Also super hot water! And I add some of my homemade vanilla syrup to the whisked matcha instead of buying flavored ones bc I fine it tastes better. 😊 For the books - I've never been drawn to the Unfortunate Events books but am wondering if I'd like them now as an adult. I personally love the TV adaptations so maybe!

I have trauma from studying The Dubliners in prep school (not sure how to translate it, it's a very French thing) - my English really wasn't great at the time and I was struggling a lot. We had 1-1 exams with the teacher about it and she was so MEAN she made me cry! That left a sour taste in my mouth - I don't remember anything about the book but it gives me anxiety just looking at it ^^'

I loved this series as a kid, and I feel like I took many lessons from its perspective with me through my life - the framework I've used to face the unknown and the unfortunate was given language and conviction by these novels. Great series that you've honored so well with this project - such a moving video.

Ahah, I just finished (FINALLY) A Fate Inked in Blood today! So glad you liked it so much :) I also heard a lot of meh reviews about this book, and I get it. I really loved the first 2/3 I would say. Like you, I thought the magic system was really cool, seeing Freya discover her magic and how to use it was so compelling! But as much as I mostly enjoyed this book, there were also quite a few things that I felt weren't strong with it (to put it kindly). The biggest one being how the foreshadowing was just SO OBVIOUS to me from very early in the book (to the point that the characters, and Freya in particular, felt really dumb in a few instances for not putting 2 and 2 together). A lot of it felt very predictable and I wasn't surprised by any of the reveals. So I have this weird thing with this book that on a purely intellectual level, I have quite a bit to criticize about it, but on an enjoyment point of view, it was still mostly quite a fun read. So I'll definitely pick up the next one and see how that one goes!

So fun fact, I used to always have to put my hair up like Violet whenever I needed to think and focus on something...but I could never get it to work with a ribbon so always used a hair tie instead 🤣I dreamed of being like Violet when I was growing up and thought I would be an inventor like her Ugh the second book was so devastating. Uncle Monty was one of my favorite guardians for them and was so frustrated when Count Olaf showed up! I feel like the movie and then the Netflix TV show erased my memory of how quickly it took for Uncle Monty to get killed off in the book 😪It has been a long time since I read the series, but from what I remembered, I felt like the Netflix series did a great job with the show. Maybe because I'm biased and LOVE Neil Patrick Harris, but I thought he did an amazing job as Count Olaf Mr. Poe was soooooo incredibly frustrating and by far my least favorite unhelpful adult 🤣 Watching this really makes me want to re-read the books again. Such a wonderful video and I had so much fun seeing your reactions to this! I'm so glad you shared this with us 💕💕 Selfishly I'm hoping you do create these characters through the Sims and share it with us. I also go through spurts on the Sims and haven't played since the cottage pack came out
