[5] FreeCAD Tuning Fork Vibration Analysis
Awesome
Thanks for the vid. I LOVE it that you leave in the mistakes you make along the way. They are all too often edited out but they are often also important sources of learning for us viewers. Thanks again! Oh, btw, what software do you use to bring up the mouse clicks and keyboard entries on the screen in the bar at the bottom? It's great way to allow us to see what you are doing without you having to vocalize it.
It's been two years since this video showed up. Which "assembly" is the best in the author's opinion?
Is there a limit to the number of elements or nodes you can use in FreeCAD? Whenever I have more than 650,000 nodes, the solver crashes.
Thanks for creating this excellent video! It is likely that the cross section is not perfectly circular in the curved part of the U. Can you measure that with the calipers? Also you may wish to try this with a finer grid.
I think the simulation is completely correct. If you clamped the tuning fork in a vise, you could certainly measure the frequencies of the first two modes. However, a tuning fork is held with the handle between the fingers, so these vibrations cannot actually occur. My intuition tells me that the third mode also decays relatively quickly because it creates a rotational oscillation along the longitudinal axis. Only the fourth mode can persist over a longer period of time under real circumstances, as it creates a symmetrical movement and therefore does not result in any movement of the entire tuning fork.
nice example, what about movement limits to prevent over moving of the simulation of constraints. feeling a bit lost with Assembly 3,4 and A2Plus They all do the same thing but different.
Thanks a lot, do you have more examples maybe a bit more complex?
Nice example
Do you recommend assembly3 over a2plus?
I am not an engineer but I am a 3D modeler that eventually uses FreeCAD for 3D printing. Your tutorial and the way you go about explaining step by step made me really interested on that particular area. Thank you so much!!
Symmetry with axis ? Pad + symmetry
can’t wait to see how this prints! thank you for sharing the process
I very much appreciate everything about this video. I like hearing the thought process throughout, it helps more than people know. I’ve decided to start learning freecad, part design/engineering in general, and videos like these are so helpful to newbies. anyway, thank you for these videos! im subscribed now and looking forward to learning more :)
