      That’s great! I’m sure one can play the piece convincingly in 2:45 as well! After all, Chopin wrote Presto and not Prestissimo. I think one therefore shouldn’t play it at one’s top limit. It’s not a race.

    • @oliveemilwetter8387
      @oliveemilwetter8387 4 дня назад

      I didn’t do any specific exercise. I practice the piece a bit slower (but not very slow), in a tempo that allows me to keep the same movement patterns but where I have more control. In this slower tempo, I aim for increasing both precision and relaxation at the same time, and I enjoy the melodic lines. It’s also key to group movements and think not of every note individually, but rather in chunks. And in the end, most importantly, just let go and feel the passion! 🔥 Hope you can make some sense of that… Thanks for your appreciation, I am very happy you liked it!

      @oliveemilwetter8387 3 месяца назад

      @@hastensavoir7782 I think perception is something very individual. I agree about the clarity, and that the Fazioli has a powerful and long lasting tone. I really wouldn’t see it as aggressive, but as I said, I think these perceptions are very individual. Interestingly, I perceived the differences between the pianos much more when I was playing them in real, as compared to when I listen to the recordings. I don’t know if the recordings narrow down the nuances, or if when playing in real, also other aspects like the touch and the different actions influence one’s perception. Maybe both is true. Fazioli has a far more beautiful and pleasant sound than Erard, which has a slightly metallic sound when played strongly. The room is not good to any of the two grand pianos - the acoustics are too harsh. I have heard Fazioli several times before, but this one has not a good sound - it is more hard than Fazioli use to have. Of the two pianos, Fazioli has the most beautiful sound in the deep tones - Erard's deep sound easily turns into noise instead of sound. Brahms was fantastic on Fazioli - but almost a disaster on Erard

    Cross stringing has been a thing since the 1850s when the modern piano minus 3 notes first came around and was just an option back when you had a choice. I got to play one made by Ronisch in 1857 which was cross strung and all modern on the inside but the soundboard was in pieces so I didn't hear the true sound. The piano I have however is strait strung with 77 keys and 2 strings per note and the sound is magical and more clean than a cross strung piano where the bass overpowers the tenor section and ruins the kind of music I write. Because of this, I wouldn't saw cross strung pianos have a better quality of sound but a bigger sound at the cost of some of the quality and clarity.

The scale starts out at F1 and ends at A7. It's probably one of the cottage models since the cabinet is really compact and very simple but doesn't have a lot of details besides a carved panel on the front that lets the sound out.

      @@oliveemilwetter8387 It would be different in more ways than the average Canadian piano since it was a period instrument of a by gone era when it was made but the action is mostly the same besides working more like a console piano than an upright not having long rods at the bottom of the action but sitting directly on the capstans and is less consistent with modern hammers than pianos designed for them. The strings are also the same depth from the action across all registers since the hammers were suppose to be the same but the hammers it has account for that at the expense of making it harder to play.

    Thank you for your great study and comparison. I listened in headphones and my impression is that Erard piano was positioned little closer to microphones than Fazioli (it's just my listening impression, probably Fazioli recording had picked up more walls sound reflections and Erard was giving more direct sound) Erard sounded more "stereo" with nice mid section details. Fazioli was almost always "mono" (due to different position in the room?). Fazioli was much better to my ears, with warmer rounded sound, lower mids and lows much fuller. Erard's upper section notes decayed faster than Fazioli's so Fazioli "singing lines" were better.

    • @oliveemilwetter8387
      @oliveemilwetter8387 3 месяца назад

      Wow, thanks a lot for having listened to it so carefully, and for your interesting observations! I had measured the distances making sure that both pianos were the same distance from the microphones. I think the distance therefore can't explain what you heard. What comes to my mind is that the Erard is longer than the Fazioli, with the microphones positioned in one point. This means that the Erard with the longer strings reaching out further to the left and right of the microphones might create more stereo impressions. Plus, it is straight strung, therefore the registers probably mix less (?) than in the Fazioli. The Fazioli is somewhat shorter and is cross-strung, probably creating more mixing of the sound? I share your opinion that the sound decays faster on the Erard, and it’s also more transparent. I found out that this allows me to follow the original pedal indications given by composers (who composed on such or earlier pianos), whereas on modern pianos, excatly following these indications often leads to a blurred sound and I have to reduce pedal usage.

      No - there is more noise than music from Erard. Perhaps there is a good reason why other pianos have taken over

    Wow, was ist das für ein wundervolles Lied!!!! Was für eine Stimmung, eine Atmosphäre ✨ Der Fazioli ist mein Favorit, habe mir beide Videos angehört. Ich finde er klingt wärmer und fängt die Stimmung weicher auf 🎶

      Sarebbe interessante ascoltarli con un'intonazione meno brillante: così risultano un po' aspri per quell'ambiente e non si riescono ad apprezzare bene.
