My 2024 Backpacking Gear Loadout!!!

My 2024 Backpacking Gear Loadout!!!
How does it perform in heavy winds and which 25 inch pad are you using?
Super durable! Doesn’t bend to much! No mods at all! Just staked out all sides! And I use the big Agnes rapide SL insulated! Best pad in the game!
Great do you think it has enough space for you or you think the 2 person is better? I would order the 1 person because it is lighter
@ I mean if you like having tons of extra space then sure! But I put all my gear and pack in my one person! If you’re not used to it it will be an adjustment but after a few nights you’ll be set dude!
How does it perform in heavy winds and did you make any modifications to make it windproof?
Very strong in wind! Had that thing in multiple 40-50 plus mph winds, no issue at all
Rapide for sure
ALWAYS! Hahaah
once you go strapless, you never go back
Great Review! I’ve been seeing Fire Maple trending on Amazon recently. If I didn’t already have the MSR and toaks, I’d probably go the FireMaple route.
I 100 percent recommend it dude!! It’s worth it and it’s super cheap!
I have this tent, maybe a year and a half-two years Several hundred miles. I really love everything about it. Pockets are great and I keep my pack and most of my gear inside with me. The only question I have is can you set it up fly first, in the rain. Then clip in the body? I just use tyvek. I have heard you can but it’s really hard with the cross poll on top with the little pockets.
I agree! I love this tent the most by far of any tent I have owned/ used
You can find a lot of “1 person tents” that are really 1.5 person
Yes you can!
I love that shelter. Not sure why i watched a video of a tent I own, but here we are. Lol. Thanks for sharing. I made sure to sub!
Thank you so much! I appreciate that! Haha it’s a great tent!
If you want to carry heavier gear the Osprey is more versatile. Light weight packs are great but not as versatile for the average person. I watch these light weight hikers adding bear canisters on their light weight packs and it looks kind of funny and unbalanced. If the light weight back packer used a traditional backpack with his light weight gear it would be really ideal in my opinion.
dylan works out.
😂😂😂
Great video mate! Really enjoyed this, super informative. New sub from us.
Wow! Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! Can’t wait to dive into your videos later!!!
Just found your channel. Nice concise review. Big Agnes and MSR tents although more expensive, are usually on sale somewhere. This tent is on sale now at REI for $300, a little less at other websites.
Yeah they really are! Yeah these are always on sale and I feel like more people should use them. This tent has done zero wrong to me! I love it, by far my favorite tent I own! Thank you for watching!
@@GearGarden I needed a 3 person tent but wanted a tent that fit 3 25" wide pads. I would have to buy a Copper Spur 4 person tent. MSR has a redesigned Hubba Hubba 3 person tent that will fit 3 25" wide pads but it's $650. Ended up buying an REI half dome 3 person for $240 plus it comes with a footprint. It's a little over 5 lbs. without the footprint, so splitting it 3 ways makes it kinda ultralight.
@ that’s also a great tent! I had the 3 person one you got, and for the weight it’s basically a solid backpacking tent for sure
Saucy lil tent. Are the tent materials as far as weather proofing and durability comparable to the shmemo shmager?
Surprisingly yes! You can tell they are not as low of a denier count as in the material and mesh is a little heavier, but it’s a durable tent for sure
This same exact model of tent used to be made by "hyke and byke" ive had it for years and its a tank. Its crazy how these brands just rebrand the same thing
Yeah and then they upcharge!
Super cool tent man, value seems unreal!
It truly is!
Great video Harrison!! Is there any chance you can test our product (Binocular will be provided for free/we were ranked #1 on Amazon's new product rankings)? It would be greatly appreciated if you could check the email you provided. Thanks and take care!!
Take the igniter off to shave off more weight. You already have a lighter or striker in your kit if you’re smart.
Great review guys. Very informative and it always helps with people being inside the tent to actually see how the space works
Thank you so much!!
Awesome thinking of getting this one or the two person to have more room.
I love the 1p!! But if you do love having tons of room, get the 2p!
Nice video, i was contemplating ordering one of those tyvek pot cozys...
Thank you! You should! It’s cheap and goes a long way
Very nice kit! The Gossamer Gear pot coozie looks pretty nice. Haven't seen one of them
It’s super dope! Got to use it on the trail last night! I think it’s worth it! Can flatten it and use it as a dehydrated food hot bag as well! At least for the larger sized pot bag like I have!
Nice cook kit but as you said individuals like individual things. My two you would not care for. The Evernew Titanium Appalachia kit with an Evernew titanium alcohol burner. An added item is the Evernew titanium non stick 6 inch frying pan. The titanium burner is packed in the kit but stored inside a small zip lock bag for safety's sake. If it's not that Appalachia kit then it is a Firebox titanium stick burner , the Nano gen 2 with a titanium canteen cup. Everything fits inside the ( Maxi ) canteen cup. Nice thing about it is that the fuel ( dead wood ) is free and at every campsite since I camp in a hammock so trees are always there. As you might of gathered , I like quiet stoves , not loud ones. Over a lot of years I've had my share of the gas ones.
I love your two!! I agree! Mine sounds like a spaceship launch lol
Great video, brother! I have the Toaks 550ml with the trusty brs3000. I keep a handkerchief in there for a pot holder and so I don’t rust out another pot. I also use the HMG repack with quart size freezer bags sometimes.
That’s a kick ass setup too brother! Haha the trusty BRS hahaha
Nice kit, great shots of each piece!
Thanks buddy!
Chill vibe, well done!
Thank you so much!
Point Reyes is the best. Staying at coast & sky this week.
Nice!! I’m staying at wildcat in a little over a week! Backpacked out there almost 15 times this year haha I love it there
What dates will you be there? I’m backpacking in there this Friday night- Saturday, then next week going back for another Friday Saturday trip!
@@GearGarden no kidding? Im at coast on 9/26 and sky the next night
@@GearGarden it’s the best, man. Big Sur is great coast camping too. Only been once but now I know a couple killer spots. Almost desert camping season!
@@Norcalhighker damn I’m at sky on the 27th!!! But I’ll be arriving to the parking lot at like 7!
Great video man. I just got the unbound 55. It’s so much bigger than the kakwa 40. I just took the 40 on the HST and it didn’t carry well. You seen people adding load lifters to the Hyperlite bags? Wondering how much of a difference that’d make..
I haven’t seen that! I would be interested in doing that for sure, mostly to make it better and better! It surprised me as to how well it is built to where the frame makes it so you don’t need them! But I am interested in that!
@@GearGarden I gotta see how the unbound carries with that one stay in the back vs. the 2 in the southwest. There’s a couple straps on the shoulders people have been using g-hooks to attach the load lifters. One guy did a clean job and one guy used electric tape. Both certainly have their merits 😆
I have the Big Agnes Zoom UL. It's an awesome pad, especially the wide version.
I have yet to try that pad out! Sounds like a new review coming soooooon
Mix to mono on a mac man. Camtasia will do it for you or use ffmpeg
Yeah this video the audio was all messed up haha
Have you taken this pack as an international carry on luggage?
I have not!! Have you?
@@GearGarden no, I have not purchased a pack yet and need something that is versatile, comfortable, and most will be able to be scaled down to fit into international carry on. I have an Osprey farpoint 40 that is extremely uncomfortable with any weight but checks the other boxes
I've got the same pack and I LOVE IT! It can't handle as much weight as my heavy duty Osprey (Aether 60 plus I think??) but it works wonders with an ultralight kit. Packing it right plays a big role in this bag from what I can tell. I've had the same problem with water bottles so I'm switching to shoulder bottle holders.
Ok I’m glad I’m not the only one who has had as much water issues! Haha it works ok if I’m going on trips where I’m super dialed and bring minimal gear, but the big trips with a bigger bear can it’s harder! I love this pack though dude. It might just be becoming my new favorite. It’s so hard. This thing is a true work horse! What do you like most about it?
@@GearGarden Honestly, I just like the simplicity of it and having somewhat confidence that my gear won't get soaked in some light rain. I'm planning my first ever thru-hike of the Appalachain and I know the weather tends to be unpredictable on it. I kinda just wish it had some extra straps on the bottom to attach a foam sleeping pad...
@@dmar0652 that’s so exciting dude!! I’m jealous!!! I would love to go out there! What year you bringing???
@@GearGarden That's a really interesting question because I'm currently re-thinking most of my gear for the trail. Right now my big three are the big agnes tiger wall 2p, nemo tensor insulated, nemo switchback, nemo disco sleeping bag, and hyperlite southwest 55. I'm considering switching that tensor pad out for a gossamer gear 1/8" foam pad and just stacking the pads. I'll switch the disco bag out for an EE Enigma quilt. I really want to trade out the big agnes tent for a durston X mid 1p pro but I'm not sure if I'm ready for that investment yet. I'll be setting off this time next year, so the temperatures will definitely be colder but that tends to be how I prefer it. I did a bunch of summer backpacking this year and it just wasn't nearly as nice as the fall and winter season for me.
@@GearGarden I'm actually still in the process of finding a hiking buddy so if you know anyone planning on hiking the AT, please lmk.
how long have u had the rapide for? have unhad any issues?
I’ve used it consistently for almost a year now. I love it, no issues! I for sure recommend it
Good review, thank you for posting it.
I've been using an inexpensive Sleepingo. Has worked for years for this casual. Looking to upgrade. Thanks for the info.
Ooh what campground is this?!
It’s up in downiville!
Nice video! I’ve got the 2015 model of this tent, and it has held up beautifully. It withstood an all night windstorm on the slopes of Mount Hood a few years back. Absolutely incredible that the tent did not collapse. Not only that, it was not even damaged. Did great on Mount Whitney, also. Considering upgrading to the new model based on your video. Thanks!
Highly recommend 😎
Let's Go!!!
Excited to hear what you think of it. Saw this product on a FB ad, saw the price and specs and assumed it was a scam. So cool to hear that it's a legit operation so close to home.
Yeah it’s super legit!!! I highly recommend!! Thanks for watching!!
What a great product! The water proofing doesn't really bother me, I'm usually rocking a waterproof pack cover anyways since they're so handy
Definitely considering this one! Wanna stay under 3lbs, freestanding, and a bit more room than my Outdoor Vitals Dominion 1p - footprint included all in 3lbs 3oz.
This one is perfect my friend! They are on sale currently so I’d jump on it asap!!’ Thank you so much for watching and subing 😄
@@GearGarden Thank you! And quite welcome :)
Hi Harrison! New sub here. What site # was that at Sky Camp? I have backpacked within Point Reyes several times. Sky Camp is next on my list :)
Site #5!! 5 and 6!/43 by far the best ones!!
@@GearGarden Thanks man!

Currently moving houses. Sleeping on my foam backpacking mattress because I'm scared to death to punch a hole in my Air Mattress LOL
😂😂😂
what kind of foam backpacking mattress?
@@fabianperez4189 It's a Nemo Switchback...Not as comfy as an air mattress but more comfy than a 1/8" pad I suppose.
Views, views and views!
Great review guys!
I have the 3 person, love it! I wish it had magnets to pull back the doors and netting. I love the magnet system.
Yeah idk why all tents don’t use magnets! Those are the best way to roll up a door!!
