My channel is focused on outdoor photography with the mantra, Explore Every Day. Follow me to see how I capture stunning scenes in not always stunning locations (mostly the midwest). I photograph the aurora, epic storms, the night sky and wild landscapes. Just the right light can make every day scenes, extraodinary.
October 10-11 Epic Aurora with Photography, Timelapse and Adventure
The 10th is a popular day for Aurora. There was the G5 Geomagnetic storm on May 10-11, and now we have the rival aurora event of Oct 10-11.
Near the Twin Cities in Minnesota, I spent the night chasing the aurora while dodging and cursing high, whispy clouds. The aurora was out and it was big, overhead and bright. Would I be able to capture good photos under the layer of haze.
Join along to see how I captured my photos and timelapses with tips, tricks and camera settings throught the video.

The amazing aurora of fall 2024 continued right into October. It amazes me how every night out under the stars can is different from the last. It wasn't your typical aroura, but a deep red started filling the sky. I was able to capture two timelapses an...
How I Photographed the September 24th Aurora Display with Timelapses and Live Video

This was one of those nights I didn't plan on chasing the aurora. I was sitting comfortably in my warm house. A nightly peek at the space data and seeing a few tweets, was enough to kick in the FOMO. Off I went. I've had fun explore close-to-home spots for the northern lights in September which definitely makes spending time under the night sky easier. It may be more fun to run up north on a mi...
Full Harvest Moon G3 Aurora Show- Epic Northern Lights From Minnesota

When I first started chasing the aurora, I was under the impression you needed to get as far north as possible from the Twin Cities. I'd drive a couple hours north to get out of the city lights. And of course this is always ideal. But it's also hard when you have a job and two daughters in a different sport every night. I need to find places closer to home. On this night I tried my closest to h...

Another night of chasing the Aurora just 30 minutes from downtown St. Paul. I arrived in western Wisconsin about 11pm and found the auroral arc was visisble to the naked eye off to the north. It was constant, but not much noticable movement. I spent a couple hours at a small lake with a great view to the north and set about shooting timelapse videos in case the aurora really took off. An Unforgettable End to a Storm Chase: Mammatus Clouds, Sunset and Lightning- Photos and Timelapse

August 26 was the first severe weather near the Twin Cities since the end of July. And enhanced risk brought excitement, and anytime you get a chance to see a storm, you never know what will happen. This storm chase was largely uneventful, that is, until the last 30 minutes while driving home. An amazing display of mammatus clouds filled the sky from west to east. Fourth of July Storms Captured with my Cameras and Drone in Minnesota and Iowa

It was a weird Fourth of July in and around the Twin Cities. Due to forecasted rain and severe weather, many communities cancelled their festivals and fireworks. A Night Sky Photography Adventure with Fireflies, the Milky Way, a Full Moon and a Fog Inversion

What a show! Nice to see the girls - hope they managed to see something and weren’t too whacked for the next day! Definitely worth pursuing and you were rewarded with some great shots and timelapses and a superb memory of the night. Glad those rabbits got to see the show at the end too!
@@nightscapejournals Thanks Paul! The craziest thing, one of the damn rabbits went up on the deck, later in the timelapse. 😂
What a storm! Nicely told story of the night, Scott - couldn’t believe how visible the pulsing was on real time video, and by eye! As you said, it never gets old!
@@nightscapejournals Speaking of what a storm, just now digging into Oct 10 storm content. The aurora is relentless! 😂
Absolutely amazing shots 😊

I saw a k3 from my window in Blaine = G1-0 for like 10 minutes it’s possible
Well that was an epic explosion of colour! Beautiful sequences and I liked the action Timelapse that showed you bursting into gear as it all kicked off - tells a lot of the story of how we have to make the most of these little 15 minute moments!
@@nightscapejournals Thanks Paul! I usually try to keep it natural, but that really worked out well!
What a great way to start off my day by catching a quick glance of the night sky aurora show!

During your open, I was like “Scott went to South America?” Then I realized, OHHH, it’s THAT Amazon! 😂

"Pristine wilderness". 🤣🤣 Very much enjoyed that, Scott - very entertaining!

This is mesmerizing. 🤩 I was fortunate enough to experience a severe thunderstorm at night, and patches of stars came in and out through clouds that were practically strobing. It’s still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen, aside from a funnel cloud.

My dad lives in Deerfield Beach, it’s a nice area! It’s funny that although I’ve lived in Florida for 7 years now (originally from California), I still can’t get used to a sunrise over the ocean. Also the water at 2:25 - wow! 🤩 Looks like an oil painting.
I try to stay at the Embassy Suites right on the ocean when I come for work. Sunsets are easier to view than sunrise. haha
I agree with the previous comment, that was a crazy-beautiful storm at the end! And 3:02 - such a trippy timelapse, the clouds look low enough to reach up and touch!
