For Wales See Wales
Великобритания
Добавлен 8 окт 2024
100 years ago if you had picked up the Encyclopaedia Britannica and looked up “Wales” you would have seen four words - ‘For Wales, see England.’
This implied that Wales was no different to England. Not worthy of its own description. Second fiddle. Frankly, it implied that Wales was simply less of a country.
That is why we have launched our podcast: For Wales, See Wales.
It is a weekly look at Welsh politics looking at the issues that matter to people here.
There are so many people who are passionately Welsh, who care about Wales and want to better understand what is happening here.
The more informed people are on Welsh issues, the more they are able to hold politicians and decision makers to account for the things that affect their lives.
Just as importantly, we want to have a good laugh talking and learning about the country we love.
For Wales, See Wales features award winning journalist Will Hayward with comedians Mel Owen and Robin Morgan.

Ep13: Predictions for 2025
Mel, Robin and Will put their heads together to make some bold predictions for what will happen in Welsh politics in 2025.
Can we expect an official Welsh leader of Reform? Will the Tories change leader (again)? The gang make their predictions and show their workings.
They also start working their way through a string of listener questions including whether Wales is in decline and whether there is such a thing as “Mid-Wales”.

Ep12: It’s Quizmass time
Просмотров 23719 часов назад
Good Will (Hayward) to all men, red-breasted Christmas Robin (Morgan) and jingles Mels (Owen), it’s time for a festive pod. The gang gets very April 2020 and has a quiz. Turns out Mel loves power, Egghead Robin has a very competitive streak and Will knows an uncanny amount about older women. The pod’s males battle it out in a Welsh politics knowledge battle while Mel reflects on her borderline ...
Ep11: Plaid Cymru’s day of reckoning
Просмотров 44814 дней назад
This week Mel asked the big question - “what are you wearing Will?”. Will (and his “Year 8 vibes”) talks through his interview with Plaid Cymru leader Rhun ap Iorwerth. Robin and Mel break down and react to exactly how the Senedd might look in 2026 and what the chances are of Reform being the official opposition. Plus the Welsh Government announce their new draft budget and Mark Drakefod bangs ...
Ep10: The Welsh Tories' Massive Mistake
Просмотров 53821 день назад
If you take one thing from this episode, know this - Mel does not want the church and state to mix. The team breaks down Andrew RT Davies using “the language of the farm” while Will eats Nigella Lawson’s cookies. Robin explains his manifesto, where he lays out why he wants politicians to be paid more and all three guess the only two places in Wales who are projected to have no Labour MSs. Big t...
Ep9: Polls, First Ministers, Danny Dyer and shoe horns
Просмотров 39928 дней назад
The team breakdown an “earthquake” of a new poll which shows Plaid Cymru leading in Wales for the first time in 14 years. Will interviews Eluned Morgan who sets a pretty ambitious target for the Welsh NHS. Meanwhile Mel analyses the challenge facing the Welsh Tories and asks where the talent is? Though the biggest question the gang answers comes from Robin - exactly what crisps would Lee Anders...
Ep8: How Welsh are you?
Просмотров 648Месяц назад
So it turns out Will really loves birds of prey… As well as that bombshell, the gang discuss the awful flooding in South Wales. The chat then turns to Welshness and Welsh identity. Robin reveals he was born in England (“don’t hate a baby”), Will realises he has probably gone native while Mel explains her long and turbulent relationship with Welshness that led her from the Conservative Party to ...
Ep7: The Tories are soon to be extinct in Wales
Просмотров 507Месяц назад
This week the pod discuss how Eluned Morgan got her rave on, Wales gets shafted a different way by HS2 and what Labour have planned for the Welsh NHS. We then deep dive into the last general election results and discover that it’s a myth that Labour voters are going to Reform and find out that the Conservatives are literally dying out. Most importantly, we discuss the rampant injustice that Rob...

Yes, Will, flexibility adaptability
A tidal lagoon in the Bristol estuary? Not the Swansea Bay one that should have been built over a decade ago
Where exactly is 'north wales' or 'south wales'..?..😂
North Wales is north of South Wales
One is where the Gogs live, the other has the Hwntw
Stop making RUclips shorts then
Caernarfon and NOT Cardiff has the highest percentage of Welsh speakers ... 85.3% are Siaradwyr Cymraeg. Triple checked you say...
Fun quiz but Will didn't deserve the two bonus points for another wrong answer!... Julie Morgan isn't even the oldest Senedd member. I expect a correction in the next episode 😉
Great show this week!
The fifth floor of Ty Hywel at the back of the Senedd is where the Welsh Government ministers have their offices - explaining Lee Waters' podcast name and Rhun ap Iorwerth's improv scene
Will, if you want us to signup to your newsletter at least leave a link in the description
Under 3min and we are already off the rails 😂
Omgosh, a live show! 🎉 I've put it in my calendar! ❤
I learn so much from every single episode. ❤
The image of Jane Dodds high-fiving her new desk neighbor will live rent-free in my head forever! 😂
I just love Mel's casual 'You'd know' :D
I would say that the main benefit of devolution is the better atmosphere both plaid and welsh labour have created. Things like aspiration to be a nation of sanctuary for refugees, the attempt to eradication of racism, the aim to be a happy place for lgbt, first parliament to reach gender equality, the future generations act. The progressive nation building and revival of a welsh identity.
The comparison with the Hiraeth Podcast is so on point 😂😂 I did the reverse though 😅
I’ve binged all the pod episodes the past few days - they’re brilliant. Diolch yn fawr i chi gyd for your informed takes and sensible yet compassionate approach to gwleidyddiaeth Cymraeg. This pod offers much-needed clarity and light to a political landscape that can too often mirror the darkness of our coal mines more than the hope and vitality of our parciau cenedlaethol. I look forward to more episodes and hopefully a live show someday! Diolch unwaith eto. P.S. I am one of the few (😉) who has read Will’s book on independence and I thought it was brilliant.
Live show is on the cards. Probably in March - more details to follow.
Menter Iaith Cymraeg in Swansea do a great job of making the language inclusive via musical and cultural events. I'm a Welsh learner for the past 4 years at the tender age of 61, I don't think they see themselves as gatekeepers, but more as developing an embracive community, However all our experiences differ, but there are "gatekeepers" of the language doing some great cohesive work. Heddwch!
Hiraeth
WHOA! 😮 That change in the graph speaks volumes!
I would vote for anyone whose platform is Muppet Christmas Carol is the best movie EVER. #Vote4Mel But also, congrats on another thoughtful examination of complex issues. ❤
😂 Mel will have her revenge on you two for throwing her under the bus while she was gone!
Exceptional discussion, AGAIN. 😂 I'm running out of synonyms for how wonderfully informative your show is!
"Yammer o hyd?" Will, if I said it that way in front of my son he'd bloody lynch me 😂 I'm not Welsh myself but I found that once you learn the letter sounds, Welsh is dead easy to read, because it's phonetic.
You all are absolutely brilliant 🔥
Another fantastically informative and entertaining episode. Keep up the good work! 👏
Outstanding information. I learned a lot! ❤
Really good episode again, keep up the good work guys! 💪🏻
50:22 Please do tell us about Denbighshire, Will.
😂😂
Right on point Mel

Diddorol iawn i wrando. Balch bod yna lle i ffocysu ar politics cymraeg. Un amheuaeth sydd gen i am yr syniad y gall rhai yn erbyn Reform enill dros pleidleiswyr trwy osgoi creu teimladau amddiffynnol, yw yr rôl mae'r papurau bro fawr ac 'astro turfing' ar lein yn chwarae yn rhannu camwybodaeth ac lledaenu dicter i boddi undryw ymgais i cyfathrebu. Weithiau mae'n teimlo fel y gallwn ni ddim dweud gair heb peirianau popoganda troi hi mewn i stori sut yr ydym yn casau yr pobl sydd yn ei glywed ac eisau cipio ei menywod a'i plant. O beth dwi'n ei ddeall, nid roedd Harris yn siarad llawer am beth galwyd Gwleidyddiaeth Hunaniaeth yn ystod ei ymgyrch, ond gan bod yr Gweriniaethwyr yn cadw ymosod ar yr syniad ei bod, glynodd fel canfyddiad. Dwi'n poeni ein bod ni'n rhoid gormod o ffydd yn yr syniad y bydd gwirionedd yn enill yn yr diwedd.
I criticised your reform video slightly, not that i am a reform supporter, yet i am unable to comment on your videos anymore. They are being deleted before they even appear. I was agreeing with much of this video and wished to express my opinion. Have you banned me or is YT messing up? Im genuinely interested in this content and despite occasionally being a contrarian, i would still like to communicate. Please for your own sake don't make this some sort of echo chamber. You won't grow the channel.
I can see your comments Barry. We've not deliberately changed anything or blocked any users so it may be more of a RUclips glitch.
@ForWalesSeeWales ok thanks for reply, my comments were very normal and inline with tos etc so must have been a problem with RUclips. I appreciate hearing different view points and I find it interesting that there is common ground for me here, and also in a lot of places I wouldn't expect.
Just stop contributory free pensions for (un)civil servants, local authority and NHS employers for a start
Farage makes my blood boil 😡, what a smug bellend.
@@Chwie303 he is indeed a prick. But he's saying the things the public want to hear, he's promising a lot of what the general people have been looking for (and voting for) for years. Sensible attitude towards immigration, cutting back the bureaucracy and making things more efficient, anti WEF and globalist policies, questioning the insanity of the green agenda, making public services work again. It's not hard. If you offer what the people want then you will go far. The left wing liberal conservative and labour parties who serve everyone else and themselves before the general public ought to be afraid of him. He promises to deliver the will of the majority of the voters. If he can actually do any of this I am sceptical. But I'd take him or pretty much anyone over Kier Starmer right now.
Another great episode guys, well done.
Would love to see an episode on tertiary education in Wales. My university (UWTSD) is moving its humanities programme out of Lampeter (oldest location for higher education in Wales) to Carmarthen. Most of us undergraduates are against the move. It seems that most universities in Wales are having problems and seeing a decline in students.
Great episode guys. Lot o bethau ddiddorol i ystyried gyda Reform yng Nghymru. Dwi'n edrych ymlaen i'r etholiad nesaf
@@huwinio5973 they can't read Welsh. Or English judging by the absence of their own comments. I think they still can sense criticism tho.

The best part about the Friday night DJ set was probably when the FM played Catatonia's 'International Velvet', grabbed the mic and we all sang the chorus together.
First time viewer. Enjoyed it. Surprisingly well balanced.
I know the, devolution? Has supposedly already happened in Wales but I am unsure if it is infact genuine power held by the country and it's representatives or not. Unfortunately I am currently fairly ignorant to the situation and I intend to look into this further. Hence me checking out this podcast. I did not appreciate the partisan positions of the hosts and wonder if they are in any way representative of your average Welsh citizen? They've certainly lost their accents, I feel their views and attitude will differ massively from the majority of people (I could be totally wrong) but this is something we see constantly in northern England when we come across "well educated" well to do people from big cities who don't even represent a fraction of the voter base. I agree with them that reform pose a massive threat in Wales as they could end up using the nation as basically pawns. But what are the Welsh alternatives to this populism? I feel that many of the things reform say strike a chord with dissolutioned voters, but skepticism is valid if you want too, as it would appear in the hosts case? Adopt some form of nationalism. Perhaps i am missing something or I'm just totally misunderstanding. Please could someone put me on the right track here? Is this left wing (dare i say socialist) Welsh nationalism i am seeing? I'm confused.
We’re reaping the damaging consequences of Brexit, Nigel’s pet project. How do you super charge the economy, when we have made the process of selling stuff to our nearest customer really difficult? Secondly, I think we need a bit of realism. Sure, Nigel could come along with some super positive message, but it would all be hot air and no substance.
Super charged economy is a pipe dream when you look at the way our economy is structured. Brexit has only been a failure because the government's haven't done anything with it. Tariffs on EU exports aren't really an issue when you don't have anything to sell them. We aren't a manufacturing country or major food producer. Our economy is heavily dependent on financial services and energy companies, these are stagnant sectors. We need tech innovation and tech start ups. That's the difference between a growing US economy based on tech and a shrinking UK economy based on old industries. We need a government that will be bold and use the freedoms that Brexit gave us to reorientate the economy. As for reform being capable? I'm not sure about that but I genuinely believe they will make some effort to address the immigration problem the public have been voting for for the last 20 years.
@@garyfarrington2960 Not to burst your bubble, but I am a software engineer building cloud based software for a leading UK manufacturer. And we have massive exports to the EU, Middle East, Australia, US. Thankfully we're a multi million pound business, and can "absorb" the costs of Brexit, but many other companies can't. For example, the paper work now required to export to the EU is phenomenal. Obviously we had to do a lot of that for our US, Aus and Middle East exports, although that has increased also as we benefitted on exports to those territories due to trade agreements that the EU has with those territories. Making trade harder and putting up barriers was never ever going to be a positive step. Brexit was a protest vote, but all we did was shoot ourselves squarely in the foot. Also, we have gone down the "more barriers, more trade friction over borders" approach, when the world is becoming more and more connected. My expertise is IoT platforms, connected systems, real time monitoring and control. The internet does not recognise borders (attempted legislation aside).
@@garyfarrington2960 I would be interested to know what you think the Immigration problem is? People actually involved in running businesses understand how monumentally hard it is to get skilled, qualified people. We have more jobs than candidates. We NEED immigration. If we restrict immigration, then our economy will be strangled, and companies will go bust. Remember, our net migration is in the region of 300.000+. The people in small boats is in the region of 20,000 a year. So Farage etc are pointing at the 20,000, but making out that they are the 300,000. Those 280,000 people who are coming here to work, are coming to fill roles that need to be filled, and if those roles aren't filled, then vital services will stop. And then of course we have the Old Age Dependency Ratio, which is the number of people in old age which are supported by working age people paying taxes. That ratio is becoming top heavy, and unsustainable. We need more, young, working age, tax paying people. Our birth rate is dropping, so we need more immigration.
Unfortunately the UK is on a trajectory of decline. A severe reduction of economic health, this is now set to reduce annually for 3 generations. With absolutely no realistic method to correct this severe spiral of decline
I think there is still a small chance of turning this around but time is running out and another 4 years of a government who is at war with pretty much every sector of the public apart from the civil service is probably going to push us past the point of no return. The revelations that will come out in the new year regarding southport could topple the government and that has to happen if we are to change course. I don't think either major party are capable of doing what is required and unfortunately Nigel has a track record of getting a movement going, soaking up all the energy and votes of the people who want change, then dispersing them into a big wet fart. He gives me little reason to expect anything different this time. But I still hope.
Exactly, clueless government. Don't underestimate Nigel Farage. Vote Reform its the only answer.
The government aren't clueless....they're the masters of managed decline.
Globalism is the goal, misery is the currency
You shouldn't be waiting for Farage to come in. If you haven't worked out Labour running Wales has always been bad then you're a lost cause.
Labour running Wales... UNDER A CONSERVATIVE GOVERNMENT. Do you really not understand how that works?
Do the Welsh have any populist/nationalist parties of their own that could actively work for and promote the views and wishes of the Welsh people? I can't see reform having much of a different approach to Wales as the labour party. They don't respect it as a nation, its just a strategic voting block to be won to them. They could be marginally better but that's not good enough.
Lieing to the people and treating them like peasants after a shocking terrorist attack that killed 3 innocent children. Then gaslighting the people into taking to the streets and rioting and then using the riots they themselves caused too wrongfully in prison as many people they possibly to scare the population into submission. Trying to kill as many pensioners as possible so as to gain their homes and that juicy inheritance tax. Trying to drive farmers off the land and prevent farmers from passing their farms to the next generation. All the while giving massive pay rises to do nothing civil servants. Turning UK into a communist police state and that's just the truths I'm able to say without fear of arrest in UK police state.
Reform will be picking up all of the labour red wall in the next national GE. Outside bet they win the next GE, as Labour will implode and make the issues Reform campaign on far more apparent. Tories won't be able to stand going right enough and will just look a week option.
I am fascinated by the fictive reality you guys seem to live in. The world is moving on and leaving people with views such as yours behind. Terrible show.
Not sure how this was in my feed but glad it was! Diolch
