Overdue Update on "Oddball" My 1941 Dodge Weapons' Carrier

The last month has been a real pain in the bumper. Having to redo a few things and buying more parts. Did get the drive shaft done and fixed all the leaks but I had to re-clock the transfer case and fix the new china carb not once but twice. But at the end of the day she is running

Slow going and more parts on order. This weekend I was able to rebuild the NP-208 transfer case and got it installed, battery and battery box installed, made a fan shroud and added 5 qts of Dello 400 motor oil. If all the parts I need come in this week I should be able to light the fires. Only 7 weekend left.

So we had a big storm coming into So Cal this weekend so I was in a bit of a rush to get as much work on Oddball as possible. So I didn't film as much as I would of liked, either way I got the motor and trans out a long with most of the wiring. Back at it next weekend if the creek don't rise. Thanks for watching.

This is a slide show of the 38 years it took to get this car on the road. My Dad bought this car in 1965 and it sat in a what was Talbert Machine Shop until the summer of 1985 when we started working on her as a father son project. We worked on her for 2 years, stripped her down the the frame, motor, trans, rear end and front suspension. Then well things started to change and the project went o...

Good for California……. Don’t think that crap is going to go very far once the cost starts trickling down to the working man. It’s just a pie in the sky dream of a handful of green elites. The grid can’t support it, and we are no longer energy independent. If we rely on solar and wind, it’s still a losing game. Hell, even these energy sources have an environmental cost. Ever see how they mine and refine lithium and copper? Drill baby, drill. PS. I got the humor. You just lit my short fuse like a cheap Chinese bottle rocket. LOL Whipple
Zero emissions is like the king's clothing. If you don't look you can't see.
Vise grips
Refreshing to see something restored, like this DC, that isn’t Green. There are plenty of Green Ones.
Happy Fourth of July! Sorry you didn’t make the parade. I missed our home town parade this year, too. Have too many irons in the fire. Go Navy! Beat the heat! Whipple
I was just thinking of Donald Sutherland's passing when you mentioned it on the channel. He played a great character in the movie. 100 degrees +. No thanks! I'll take my 94 degrees in Pennsylvania! LOL Thanks for the update. I really like this project that you have underway.! 👍👍👍
U didn't show anything just ran ur mouth wasted people time
Corn head grease…the box must be clean and empty of any oil or grease. I have a full tube if you want it. The temp is high because its sender is so close to the exhaust. Are the side engine mount strong enough? after you start driving you will want to keep an eye on them for an additional bold on brace. Roch..I would put a dip (lower) or an arch (higher) on the trans mount for the front drive shaft clearance . A cut piece of 5” pipe should do it…. I also have a Holley replacement carb from my mother’s 1970 Nova 250 six you can also have.
The satisfaction of a job well done! The little pleasures of life. Good job. I allow myself to ask you a question. I acquired a 1944 WC-57. I'm getting to know it, it works almost like a charm. The issue I encountered is the following: during driving, the gears shift rather correctly with double clutching (slightly capricious to downshift from 3rd to 2nd but I lack practice). However, once at a standstill and in neutral, if I want to shift gears again (no matter which one), I systematically have a crunching sound before engagement. Where could this come from? Clutch linkage? If you could shed some light on this matter, I would be grateful. Best regards
Whats the socket size?
24mm
love it man
You should have bought a Chevy K5, that's what all the cool people drive.
The trans and transfer case came out of a k5 Blazer
What's the size of the bolt head
Cool, thanks dude. I’m gonna try it now.
Tried for a good few minutes with the impact a couple of times and after your vid came right off great work sir and thanks if noone else hasn't already said
My Milwaukee 1/2 inch took mine off
shes a beaut kick ass story that ive followed for some time love your work brotha
Chingon!
It is absolutely amazing and fantastic that you thought to take so many photos over the years and could edit them all sequentially. Impressive. Cheers! Whipple
To any of yall confused about if its clockwise or counterclockwise, just look at the pliers location and you'll be able to figure it out...
Thank you very much for sharing. Removing the bolt was so easy.
You never pulled it
I already had it off, but I didn't film that, this video is just a recap of how I got it off. Thanks
Wow you're talking about Sixty four falcon my first car was a sixty fourth falcon it had three on tree
OK. This has been a fun series to watch. Thanks for posting the journey. Really appreciate it, and thank you for your service to our country. Cheers! Whipple
Bros video sucks
Did I miss the part where u removed it ?🤔🤦
No Sir, I didn't film that part. This was just a afterthought.
Just scooped one of these for 20bucks . Seriously can’t complain 😂
That’s one great Fourth of July parade! No wonder you were working so dutifully to get ready for it. Bravo! Whipple
Thank you
I’m telling you boys, I chuckle out loud every time I here the name of this project. One of my favorites that I follow. Carry on, and be safe working on/towing/driving in that vehicle…! Cheers! Whipple
I envy the riggers, fitters, mechanics and welders that worked on the assembly. The crew I was on only got called in when something was hanging on a hillside, deep in a cut, next to four lane of speeding traffic, underground or it was raining/snowing. Never got a chance to be part of anything new, shiny, or painted up real nice. Our work was always on broken, twisted, worn-out and rusty equipment. Great video. Nice machine! Cheers! Whipple
I'm guessing this is pre Dylan Mulvane?
LOL yes you are correct
Nice work. I like the Roodie Kazoodie Transmission Puller. Works for me! Cheers! Whipple
🔥 😅
Niiccee 👍
You’ve got the same issues going on as me. I just told my wife that my problem is I have two bad shoulders, two bad knees, and lots of good friends always asking or help and I can’t say no. A bad combination at my age. The project is looking sharp! Cheers! Whipple
You've got a great project going on. I enjoy seeing how you're changing it to fit your own vision. Also very much looking forward to seeing it get ready for the parade in July. Cheers! Whipple
You need a powerful impact wrench for that and a GM puller for the harmonic balancer
Great
You sir, are my hero
Great video. It really helped me a lot. I have a question: at the beginning, I didn't block right the crankshaft pulley and it rotated a few degrees, Is this a problem or do I need to adjust the time chain?
Thank you!
Let's see it working
That's a great idea that will even work for a trailer that doesn't have a winch on it
you can buy that thing ready made now.
Damn''man your just talking about removing it, Remove it and show how it's done, talk is Cheap!! Bad video 👎👎👎
How did you pull the linkage off of the arm?? Mine won’t budge
With a pickle fork.
And a big hammer
@@USMCROCH Couldn’t even fit my pickle fork up there
It was an M48 chassis as other commenters have said, but it was supposed to have a gas turbine engine. My MOS 52F was supposed to support that engine but never came to fruition. MacGreagor range incident sealed its fate as a dangerous piece of junk.
You’re the best!! Thank you!
Have u tried draining all the oil out, heating it up, cleaning it then putting epoxy on it? These things have to be extremely clean for them to work
My quick fix lasted about 2 years. Then I changed the back half with a case saver.
@@USMCROCH In my situation I had someone carelessly damage the flange on my Honda civic where the CV axle seal rides. It hasn't ever leaked but when it happened I put cold weld over the crack. Driven it like this almost 65000km. The other issue is the aftermarket axles don't hold up, boots tear, and I'm gonna have to rebuild the original ones to fix it and install
Bros rolling around with a junction box for an extension cord end 😂😂 I freaking love it.
Great review! 👍 Thanks for the insight to what worked well and for the projects you were working on.
