What is a binding? Is it a part of the ski or a separate piece of equipment that needs to be purchased and installed on a ski?
so the 3 layers don't apply to pants? I'm guessing ski pants are jus ski pants

Nice guide, but what about keeping 1 leg in the track and 1 leg outside for braking and better stability? It might be good for not really steep downhills. And also good for people, which are not able to step outside of the tracks during the downhill.
What's the technique where you single-pole with the opposite arm as ski?
DevenH I'm just learning here, not an expert, but my impression is that that pattern happens with classic cross country skiing but not skate skiing.

@DavenH A bit late, but it's diagonal skate. He didn't cover it in the video.

I feel less confident going downhill on my classic skis than I do on my skate skis. Is there a reason this might be the case? Thanks for the tutorial!
Surely there is a reason for that... Classic skis are longer, softer, its binding is softer and shoes for classic are smaller and softer. So, simple as that...
@@jirib.8280 Thanks for that comprehensive answer; it makes perfect sense. Going downhill on classic skis seems to require a lot more attention to proper technique (balance, edging, etc.), in short, they’re less forgiving.

Great video! It is amazing how you can fit years of learning and experience into just 7 minutes. Really mastering the techniques showcased here could take many seasons for the casual person that's not hitting the trail every day after work. I think the key to mitigating frustration and a desire to just quit is consistency and accepting that you will fail many, many times before it all comes together. I'm struggling so much with this right now - but I'm not giving up!

What do u use for your pants?
Probably similar material. I use thermals for a base layer top and bottom, then insulated pants as a second layer. And for shell layers, thin waterproof pants are good as well
