Chaotic Gardener
Южно-Африканская Республика
Добавлен 10 июл 2023
I am an amateur gardener, a bit chaotic in my methods, certainly not a professional. I started really gardening when Covid hit, it was a good distraction from the chaos of the time and so good for my soul. I noticed the slow down, the appreciation of what is all around us and the complete and utter joy of growing something that actually looked, smelled and tasted exactly like the food that I bought in the shops. The hours of joy and stress relief are priceless and my hope is to share my Chaos with other fellow garden wannabes who think they can't grow a garden because they don't have the tools, compost, space, knowledge of the professionals and every other reason we tell ourselves about why we can't. Just do it, start with something, be Chaotic, make mistakes, grow, learn and mostly have fun. I did!

Spring has sprung and it is time to reclaim what Venus has destroyed. The garden is mine and I will win!
Reclaiming my garden
Просмотров 1622 месяца назад
After 'poppet dog' more like 'monster dog' has spent a short few weeks destroying my garden, I have decided it is time to reclaim it, one bush or shrub and a few pot plants strategically placed at a time. Gardena sprinkler to the rescue as well.

Feeling rather deflated about the state of my garden at the end of this season. Lets hope Venus matures soon and I can find hope in a new season.

Superbe vidéo À bientôt
It is my first time on your channel and I have just subscribed. Thank you so much for sharing. Keep up the good work. All the best on this journey😊🙏
@@myhomeandgardenchanneldwel7777 thank you for joining me.
Great work
😢😢
Very awesome that you use what you have!! Very inspiring!! I just made some garden beds from a couple of gates that blew down and were replaced!! It was fun
I love that, would love to see a picture.
Thank you for your much needed words......just breathe......you have your puppy.....I have a 21year old giving me grey hairs.......needed the reminder to just breathe, acceptance things will get better, could be far worse. 😊
@@sarahgalvin1663 I am always here for a chat or shoulder to lean on.
I didn't know that there is a beach on top of table mountain. The plants in South Africa 🇿🇦 are very special. I've visited the botanical garden in Cape Town long time ago and it was really amazing. Is the moonlight delight opening more in the night?
@@gardentours I will have to investigate, that would make sense based on the name.
You're so right! Nature is in control, always. Good thing you're in control of those weeds! ;) Garden looking good Aunty <3
Hope you are dry now!!
Peanut shells? Does it attract rats??
@@turiaturiana7529 no, we haven’t had any issues.
Ouch! Hope you recover soon! At least you have that beautiful rose in the background to enjoy as you're sitting back and recovering. 💕
You silly billy! Love your work though 💗
You need to put acid mix in the hole when you plant a protea - I also had no luck until a lady at one of the nurseries told me to put acid mix in the hole. They dont like compost or fertiliser. Now I have 2 that are very happy. They take about 2-3 years before they produce flowers.
Thank you for sharing that information, I have some acid mix so I will add some tomorrow, hopefully I will have success.
Always moving plants around!!!!
Poor light. I wouldn't bother planting them out as will never make anything. The plant is Fennel. Sow again with plenty light and a bottom temp of no less than 5c for brassicas and peas and peas I would sow direct in the ground. 40 years as a pro meas I know a little bit more now than I did then. Check if your seed is good or not by putting a few seed n a cup of water and wait 10 mins if they float chuck them out as dead, if sink too bottom, then ok.. Some seeds germinate much slower than others so don't give up so early Parsnip is a very slow to germinate and can take 3 weeks., but all seeds need plenty of light.
Hi there, is there an all-round organic insecticide one can use that will kill termites too?
Hi, I have never investigated getting rid of termites in the garden. I do have them eating the tree stump in the garden but when I looked into it a few years ago my understanding was that they would not harm my vegetables. Are they doing damage in your garden?
Trail and error is the best gardening method!
I agree, and more fun and less stressful than sticking to the rules😂
@@ChaoticGardener Definitely!
Lovely succulent planter 🌱It's amazing that those leaves 🍂 are rooting so easily 👍
Thank you, I enjoyed making it more than I thought I would.
Lol - I think every video should be like this... lol
I thought you might appreciate it!
I have to neaten up more places than you 😉
We won’t talk about the back garden😂
First, love that you are barefoot. Second, you're garden is so much more tidy/organized than mine - although we have a lot of the same methods. I know you're just getting started with your channel, but know that you are ahead of the curve on a new (healthy) trend of "realism". Ppl are desperately in need of real life chaos and so-called "imperfection" to ground and reset themselves. The polished, hyper-edited, short format stuff is on the way out. So, I think you'll have great success. Life for sure is trial 'n' error and more ppl need to celebrate that. If you look closely.............it is a BUNCH OF HAPPINESS! <3 You've inspired me today. Thank you.
What's behind that horizontal/woven wood fence at the back of the house? Looks like a good spot for a compost bin. Maybe use the wood from the fence to build it? I bought a sheet of plastic lattice (i think 4'x8' ?) and cut it in half w/ jig-saw (lengthwise into two 2'x8') and used zip-ties to form them into tube shapes. I was planning on using them for potatoes, but they're perfect for compost. Easy to lift/move to a new spot (light-weight) don't rot out.
Ah wow this is THE MOST meaningful comment and you in turn have inspired me to continue with my Chaotic fun of gardening. Thank you and I hope you have an amazing week.
There is a compost bin behind that fence with a lot of mess as well. The plan is to upgrade the area in time but the desire to invest in vegetables and flowers always gets me😂I have a huge bunch of tomatoes growing over the top of the compost at the moment, this seems to be the best way for me to succeed with them. Hopefully I will be able to do a video of the repurpose soon. Thank you for the advice.
Looking good. Well Done
Thank you
How do you deal with the monkeys
We are lucky that the monkeys do not seem to come into our front garden. We have no trees in the front. We have also had big dogs so that might have helped but they do frequent the back garden where we have a mulberry tree and a paw paw, I will give them that if they leave my other stuff alone. A friend of mine has had to cage her vegetables in to prevent monkey damage.
Also discovered you after reading the article in the Upper Highway. Love your Channel and your authenticity. Hope your Channel grows from strength to strength
Thank you so much ❤️
Glad to have you sharing the journey.
Loved this video. We really spoilt for choice up here.
I agree!
I love seeing Venus being crazy in the background in a few places. See 2:45 and 4:13 for an example.
I know, when I watched it back I also noticed that, nutty dog.
Where can one get organic seedlings and compost in the Kloof/Pinetown area? Thanks for sharing 💚
Blackwood nursery in Hillcrest is great otherwise flower park in kloof or Pinetown, I even get from Builders express.
Congratulations Mrs Riedlinger! May God bless your harvest, we are so happy to see this & I always had a passion for gardening myself & you have inspired me to want to start. Following you for more tips. Thank you.
I am so glad to hear you are going to get your hands dirty, it is tons of fun!!
I have started my veg garden for the fourth time and each time got so despondent because my root veg just don't develop and the rest of the crops are destroyed by bugs. Please can you advise me.
@@juliarothquel2114 keep going… try planting beans, they take quite easily and even when the grasshoppers eat the leaves, I still get beans. Are you fertilising your seedlings after they get their first set of true leaves? Soil and water are the key to getting crops to succeed. Make sure you have light fluffy soil for root crops. I am battling at the moment with my carrots and beets so I do feel your frustration. Lettuce are cool season crops so perfect for now. I would advise you to buy some seedlings just to keep you motivated and then experiment with the other crops without the pressure. Let me know if you have any success.
I’m the same as you - I much prefer to do the fun stuff in the garden! It’s amazing how much you can ignore if you set your mind to it! Nice to stumble across your channel. You’re in South Africa, right? I’m in Wales so I imagine we’re gardening under quite different conditions. Anyway, I’ve just subscribed and look forward to seeing more of your videos.
