Sawmills shutting down as Lumber Market COLLAPPSES
Sawmills are closing their doors due to the lumber market collapsing! Its a very difficult time right now with lumber prices so low that its near impossible to make a profit, along with the terrible economy it seems that no body has any money to spend on home improvements. Lets go into detail about the current market activity that is causing this!

Our SKIDDER BROKE AGAIN!!!!!!
Просмотров 324День назад
There is nothing more aggravating than a cable skidder! It seems like once you get to making money in the logging business something breaks! This time it was the winch on the tree farmer C5D. We worked all day trying to pull cable and it just wasn't working! So we shut down and tore into it!
we BROKE our SKIDDER!! Fixing our TREE FARMER C5D after a breakdown!

This past week we had a break on the skidder that caused it to free wheel down the mountain! I was able to stop it with the blade and then the hunt was on for the problem and parts! After working on the skidder we finally discovered a broken U joint yoke that caused the issue but we had to hunt down the right part! Thanks to a little Internet detecting I was able to locate the part and get it o...
Sawing MASSIVE 10x10's out of 16 foot RED OAK
Просмотров 203Месяц назад
We got an order to saw 10x10 and we did not realize how horrible it would be! We scouted out and logged some good red oak that we thought would make it, only to have one of them rotten in the middle! So we finally found a good Whiteoak and threw it on the circle mill and it made a beautiful piece of wood! I defnitley underpriced this job!
Sawing beautiful Ash lumber on our Edmiston Circle mill!

Today we are sawing Ash lumber! Ash is great because its light weight easy to saw and makes stunningly characteristic lumber! We logged these ash trees from our own timber and we will sterilize the lumber to prevent any Ash Borer from spreading!

Just sawing oak on the Circle mill, this video is just what the title says. No talking just sawing. Its been a miserable week of hot weather and bad timber, but we managed to saw a little bit.

It does matter who gets elected, if the democrats stay in office this cycle they will take steps to put things in place to where they will have absolute power for the rest of your life. And part of their plan is to put the little guys out of business and only the big corporations will be logging. It’s easier to control a couple of big companies vs a bunch of little ones. I’m not trying to make you feel bad about your statement but you are very wrong. You have a right to have an opinion but just because you have a platform doesn’t mean you should go around saying dumb ass shit. Please pull your head out of your ass and realize there is more going on in this country than north Arkansas. Hank Morris, Saratoga, WY. One more thing. There were people up here saying we had nothing to worry about with Obama, they said “coal will be fine” they were wrong. And these wind farms are a joke. The proof is out there, go check it out. Thanks
Up here in canada huge mills shutting down cant get logs indians claimimg all the forest .
It's a tough time in the industry
how can the market collapse when they need a million houses in the SE?? LOWES are still getting big dollars for building lumber
They may be needing houses but they aren't building them. You can look at the building permits and see that, the big box stores are not selling much lumber either comparative to their size, most all the brokers that I have talked to have around 4 million foot on the yard and can't sell it.
@@TheOutdoorRight lower their price, Covid shot it up, I was set to put on a 90 thousand dollar addition, then Covid hit and it shot up to 200 thou, not counting labor
Gonna pick up soon rebuilding all the damaged homes and businesses. Unless Harris/Walz are placed in office. Then look out everyone!
I'm not sure it will affect much it might move a little bit but most brokers have millions of foot on the yard that they can't sell. What we need is a low interest rate to drive the new home market
@TheOutdoorRight it's a dead market in our area. Every so often a place will sell, but like you said interest rates to high. And most selling are still looking for the California gold.lol
hi there interesting thanks for the info john
use chainsaws and not a buncher. supply slow, supply last price up. payments low
Im in the cabinet business ... we are a bit slow right now. But cows are high, be diversified. Also we are in an election year, currently under a weak government .... will see what happens
I honestly think nobody has any money to spend right now, it cost so much to survive that there’s just not much left for hike remodels or stuff like that
@@TheOutdoorRight ... I usually build for older retired people, im 1.5 hours east of Dallas, we get a lot of foreignors moving from there retiring and bring a lifetime of savings, young people cant afford a new , even modest home, my 28 yr old son is just now building a new small house, i gave him the land and hes paying cash all the way, he lives in travel traler until.we get done. Im still a firm.believer against borrowing money.
We went through this back in 2008-09…..it was rough! Ties were the only thing keeping mills going then as well. Praying it changes soon! I would love to know how your idry air is drying for you, especially how it is doing on hardwoods.
The I dry so far has been great it takes my hardwood from 20% to 6% in about a week
East Tennessee tie market is not good. Most yards are not excepting new accounts. Or have existing mills on quotes
That is horrible news!
I went through several log market declines when I cut wood for a living. I recall one time I simply parked the equipment and found something else to do for awhile.
Firewood is starting to look like a better deal right now lol!
Very sorry to hear all of that my friend! I wish you all the luck in the world!!
Thanks! We will weather this storm
Not much different in northern NY . I saw mostly softwood. Log prices still high and lumber prices as suck.
Unfortunately it’s a national wide issue
Just keep grinding on, Yall. Me and a pal was taling the other day that we had to get good and broke just to see how little we could live off of. The'election' is a joke whatever happens. THIS is the way theones in the shadows want it. NO accident. Webetter get ready because the Bible says it'll get worse. God Bless Yall from the semi-flooded hillbillies.
As long as we can pay the bills it will all be good! One thing about owning a kiln is we can store the lumber until the market returns
@@TheOutdoorRight And yall an dry out some custom stuff in the process! 10/4 on the light bills!
With the storms we have had in south east it’s going to pick up soon when they get it cleaned up they will be building back fast so lumber is like money in the bank and if that you know what wins it will be bad so vote for Trump and maybe we will come back to a good place God Bless Y’all 😅
I hope so!!
RUclipsr NiemiWoods made a recent video on the Gearmatic 19 brake side teardown. Good video that you may find helpful.
That looked like a tough fix! Glad you finally got it! Thank you for sharing my friends!
Thanks!
Thank you!!!
The brake band anchor pin has spring tension on it and that is why it won't come out. To release the spring the 2 bolt spring cover on the bottom side has to be removed. Also remove the brake release slave cylinder on the top of the winch. Then remove the release link, the "dog bone" lever that was between the two bands and the brake spring from the housing. I'll bet the anchor pin can then be removed with a pair of pliers. Check out Model 19 & 119 Gearmatic PDF. Same winch as yours
Thanks I will try that next time I tear into it
@@TheOutdoorRight ruclips.net/video/BpftoQtNrqE/видео.html
A winch can be aggrivating. All a dragline is a set of winches on a turntable but usually they're open enough so you can center the clutches and brakes up so the drum is free but there's always something. Yall will get it. One day I'll tell you the deal I got into with bee nests years ago. Blessings, yall!
I hate a cable skidder!!! I feel like it's atleast 50 percent slower than a grapple. But unfortunately with the market in the shape it's in I can't afford anything else
@@TheOutdoorRight The shape of the country there goes with a cable instead a grapple I bet too. Here too!
RIGHT! LOTS worse!
This is the second nest I've stirred up this week
@@TheOutdoorRight 'Tis the season. Must be in the woods with yall! BAD deal!
Been there done that! I have a C5C Tree Farmer which is one model older than yours. Same layout as your machine except for the round tube canopy and limb risers; also the blade cylinder mounting is different. My thought on the split yoke is that it may have been caused by hard pulling in 1st gear. I had drive train problems on mine when I did that and learned to limit the load to 2nd Lo. Take good care of the drive axles and planetary gears...replacements for the ones you have are hard to find. I think all the driveline u-joints are the same except for the winch drive shaft.
I believe it broke because I use the transmission as a way to slow it down because I don’t have any brakes, (yes I know that’s horrible, but you gotta do what ya gotta do when the blade won’t stop you going backwards) The axles are terrible lol the back axle is scavenged from a c6 and the front is shot, but I can’t find a replacement. This poor skidder has been through hell and just wants to die lol, but I won’t let it. Don’t get me started on the can-car winch!!
@@TheOutdoorRight Lol! I've also done some meditation on the Can-Car 20 winch....which is a Gearmatic 19 with a few minor changes. One major issue with them is the rust factor in the band housing. I found that gun grease applied to the mating surface of the band cover when reapplied helped keep the rainwater out. Also the last time I redid the winch cylinders and control I switched to DOT 5 brake fluid which doesn't absorb water. At any rate I think it helped...the winch still works!
@@greatnorthernn-3154 Any tips on replacing a band that the pin is siezed on? I've tried heat and everything I know, I ended up welding a piece on it to hold the brake material in place
@@TheOutdoorRight You could try drilling and tapping a bolt hole on the end of the pin and then using a slide hammer on it.
Great fix! That was genius how you made those parts work!! Glad your back in business my friends!
Thanks 👍

Used to cut house orders and cut come beams 20 and maybe 22 feet long. 8x14 and so. Years ago. Good Pop is getting on with it. Blessings and no fiures are good firees!
I can not imagine how difficult those would be to handle!
@@TheOutdoorRight There was 6 of us and no lift of any kind and we had to plane them.Hauled them on the log truck to the planer and could just run 2 sides. Neuman #48 I think. 4-71. Pine mostly. That's when I had some lead in my pencil and could pop a peavey handle. Had lots of shorter beams but the long ones were very interesting. And Temple Hill is about 50 or 60 miles west from me. We're all hillbillies.
Great job my friend!!t saw mill is awesome!

now that's a beam , nice sawing.
It’s hard to find an oak tree that will make one that isn’t a veneer or stave log!
@@TheOutdoorRight that 10x10 x16 is 133 BF I hope you made a profit.
@markgalicic7788 I made a profit only if you don't add up how many railroad ties I could have sawed in the same amount of time. These are going to restore a historical church and all the funding was donated by the local community.
@@TheOutdoorRight that's great!

Hey big tree!
Pretty cool!
very slow mill saw cutting rough teeth needs side dressing leaving big saw marks on timber we would never put up with that in australia people would not buy that stuf they talk about rough sawn timber that is taking rough to the extreme.
Well in America we have these cool things called planers, 😎
Side dressing? I've never heard of that. We used to sewage and stone the old tool steel teeth but I'm sure most use carbide teeth these days. Keyboard worrier no doubt.lol
Doing it!
Nice video, goof job fells 🇺🇲

Will you be custom drying any lumber? I’m also in north central Arkansas and have a small mill but no way to kiln dry or sterilize

We have a woodmizer but for some reason I really want a Circular mil like that with the edge would be great. What brand middle is it? Nice video I will subscribe.
It is a edmiston hydraulic. I had a woodmizer lt40 for a couple years and I absolutely hated it because I grew up on a circle mill. I can saw more in one day on this circle mill than I could in a month with the woodmizer. Meadows makes a very nice entry level circle mill and hurdle makes a super nice mill.
@@TheOutdoorRight thanks for the info .I watched the one on the kiln install and was wondering did you put a curtain wall with fans ? If so would like to see one on that.
@@johnm.robertssr.2953 no the IDRY Air doesn’t need fans. It has all the fans inside the unit. It has two sides that generate the air flow. One side pushes and the other side pulls and every couple of hours the computer tells them to switch.
I can almost smell the red oak!!
I love it! Good southern red oak is probably my favorite lumber
