What's it REALLY Like to Climb a Mountain in WINTER?
Winter mountaineering in Washington State is a different beast. We endured cold temperatures and extreme winds on New Years Eve climbing Bandera Mountain up at Snoqualmie Pass. Shot with Sony a6700 using 4K 120 FPS.

I got the chance to try out my new Sony a6700 and it is insane. 4k 120fps and AI autofocus are an absolute game changer. The perfect camera to document some of the wreckage sustained from the recent bomb cyclone that swept the Seattle area. Everything was filmed in full auto mode, since I haven't had a chance to sit down and learn how to actually use this thing yet, lol.

Black bears behavior is very different from grizzly bears. When in grizzly territory always bring bear spray. I’ve had black bears sniffing around tent while sleeping but leaving when they don’t smell anything. Never keep foods or things that smell, other than dirty socks 🧦, in the tent. Bear canisters and lockers are really helpful in some areas like the Sierras.

I later discovered it did try to get into the bear canister but failed. I still have and use the canister. Back then they would often relocate bad behavior bears from Sequoia National Park to the East side of the Sierras as they are less likely to encounter people. A mule train often took supplies up the trail for those doing the entire route from Mexico to Washington.

I started taking bear safety a lot more serious this summer. Back in the day we used to cook right by our campsite and leave everything in or near the tent overnight. We always thought we were invincible, since we never had any issues, but we were just really lucky. Fortunately I smartened up enough to educate myself on bear safety before ever setting foot in grizzly country.
