Why does nature-friendly farming matter? UK General Election 2024
Просмотров 1216 месяцев назад
Devon’s landscapes have many hues of green. Farming and the environment are intertwined. Food production relies on healthy soils, clean water, and resilience to climate change. But farming is also one of the main causes of wildlife declines, as well as the leading cause of river pollution in England. With over two thirds of Devon's land used for farming, farmers can be a significant part of the...

Brown hairstreak butterfly Q&A with Butterfly Conservation
I've glimpsed willow/marsh tit in woodland at Brownsham, which is within the area you are describing i believe. I actually live in Bude ovr the border and we certainly have this type of tussocky grassland in an area of unimproved farmland nearby, which I visit frequently; I don't know whether it is culm grassland per se, but it also includes an area of wet woodland . I have been trying to record all of the fauna/flora to be found there this year, and I have contacted the local parish council to try to draw their attention to its biodiversity. It's a little jewel in the natural landscape, to my way of thinking.

She’s not the headteacher no more 😢😢
Hi I’m chase from willowbrook school Exeter
Great project. I live in North Cornwall and love the idea that pine martens if reintroduced could spread into Cornwall, perhaps in a similar way that choughs are expanding northwards from Cornwall, although the latter are probably not subject to attack from the likes of gamekeepers and farmers. However, I have little or no trust in the statutory bodies you mention you have to work with, which I believe have become politicized and hamstrung by the right-wing and vested interests like wealthy landowners: just look at how Natural England have persisted in supporting badger culls in the face of all of the scientifc evidence to the contrary. In our profoundly nature-depleted landscape the last thing we need is the bodies entrusted with protecting our wildlife turning into underfunded, timid and ultimately ineffectual paper tigers at the beck and call of lobbying from the Establishment.

Would be great if training/information sessions were held in the summer holidays/weekends. Sadly working, so I can't make the one in Exmouth, 19th September 2024 10-12:30.

So, so sweet and quiet.
Awwwwww....so darn CUTE ❤
Cutest.
Love!
As wonderful as these animals are, I have to wonder if reintroducing them after 400 years of civilization changing so much - are beavers now an invasive species? I mean, 400 years ago they must have had predators other than man to keep populations in check. I’m guessing those species are all also long gone now. The beavers are doing amazing things, but without natural predators, won’t their numbers continue to increase unchecked so that they’ll start migrating to waterways where they become real pests? I’m just thinking out loud.
awww
