Anime's journey into the American mainstream has been a fascinating journey. From its arrival during the 1960s to the infinite amount of localization produced since then, it's a medium that first sprouted up as a niche fandom for comic book and sci-fi fans that over 40 years became a nationwide phenomenon that has become a staple in American pop culture today. In this video, we cover the first 40 years of America's relationship with anime from the first Toei films in the 1960s to the dawn of Toonami in the late 1990s.

EDIT: at the time of the publishing of the article I used as research for this video, it claimed Surge was still available through Wal-Mart, Instacart, and Amazon, but it also made note that it was often listed as ‘out of stock’.
