Interesting. The 143-foot-long muskie sculpture is the world's largest muskie sculpture (I'm not sure Hayward had a lot of stiff competition on that one.)

Hi Audrey. Hello again. We met at Marketplace a couple of weeks ago. We have a second home in the Hayward Lakes area, a place we truly love! I love your videos. This one was particularly helpful for me. Wherever I travel, and Hayward in particular, I try to remember that I am vacationer at the place I am visiting while the many good people I encounter actually live and work there. I try and always respect that. We had a fantastic contractor at one time who also became a great friend. Sadly, he moved out of the area, and this move shortly followed a overly difficult project being driven by a nightmare Twin Cities architectural firm! One more comment: Hayward has so much to offer, and the mountain biking and XC ski trails are the best in the world! Talk soon

Northwoods Beach area? Nice?

When I was growing up, everyone including my grandparents came to vacation in the area to get a taste of the north woods. It really isn’t like that anymore, everyone who has lake front property wants to urbanize everything. Shoreline modifications, people who want to mow their lawns and fertilize them right up to the waters edge -it’s awful. The Hayward area is losing its north woods charm. Just as my grandfather predicted, most lakes in the area are starting to look like the ones in the southern part of the state, with hardly any natural shoreline left. Invasive weed species like milfoil now found in nearly every one of the larger lakes that have public boat launch, and algae blooms are getting worse and more frequent. People just don’t understand, if you want to urbanize these lakes, it will eventually ruin them. If you want to stay away from crowds, and want some real peace and quiet, don’t come to Hayward. There are still other lake areas in northern Wisconsin that are not as crowded.

Hello. Has anyone heard of Elephant Rock somewhere around Hayward? 1962 & 1963 we vacationed in Hayward on a lake my dad called Muskey Lake. There was Muskey Island across from a little resort we stayed at with little log cabins & a bar below living quarters of the owner.

Hayward is great. It needs a super Walmart and another fast food chain like Wendy's or something

Been in the area since 88. Id pay extra for a western facing lot. You get the sunsets and a breeze most days. Takes the mosquitoes away. Cool crisp breeze in late September is my favorite time.
