"Are you with the Cardinals?" Nope, just some totally random person with a bass that showed up while the song was being performed. Gotta watch out for those bass guitarists! They come outta nowhere!
“ …loaded on Jen”… Jen is reference to Jennifer Patton, granddaughter of the General.. or maybe his grandniece…? Met her in Denver, made a dive for her, sank badly into the waves..?
I don't think hes saying he wants Sylvia Plath per se. I think everyone gets this song wrong. Hes basically saying he is awkward like she was, no one understands him either. So he wishes he had someone who understood his uniqueness, a soul mate who understood his weirdness. Don't we all just want that soulmate? It's just his way of expressing what we all hope for.
Yaşam rüzgârının önüme savurduğu şair, Sylvia Plath… Yazdığı her şiirinin içine bir tutam gizem, bir tutam estetik bırakabilmiş, tüyler ürpertici dizelerin sahibi. Geçmişteki varlığın için, yaşamışlığın için sonsuz teşekkürler…
Having been an English Major & a poet, I only recently (a year or so back) finally read the Complete Plath poems...Ryan Adams is one of my fav. artists & this songs certainly evokes the sort of indescribable emotions that her poetry does...Damn.
A song that removes me from current ticking time.. Places me back in my darkest of times.. Yet throws me back out of it with hope & progression. Lovely

Sleep with Sylvia Plath - or swim with her in the sea (with or without clothes)! What a nutcase, she was! I would still prefer the safety of reading her texts from a good distance.
What a beautiful tribute to Sylvia Plath. You should send it to her daughter Frieda. I'm moved by artist's inspiration. I wish I had a sylvia plath too!
Beautiful. Just uploaded a song called `Sea of Broken Cars`, about a girl that was much `inspired` by Sylvia Plath, just like I am. Do drop by.. Come freely. Go safely; and leave something of the happiness you bring..
I agree with some saying the song is not really about her or her life. The respect she deserves is in the fact Ryan named the song, or (any) song specifically after her. It's entirely up to the listener at that point combining what they know about her (life, work) with what they get from the song. I firmly believe its entirely up to the artist what goes into the song, and that is what makes it art.
Love the violin and cello here, brilliant Ryan Adams!
my favorite song by mr. Adams

What Ryan was doing in this period of 05-06 is akin to the Beatles or Bob Dylan in 66 x
Still the best song of this century x

Something tells me you didn't write this song...
