Sharks, rays, and seals, oh my! Laguna Beach Diving
A gorgeous day diving in Laguna/Dana Point! Great visibility, playful harbor seals, big mama leopard shark, a cruising bat ray, huge schools of sargo and kelp bass - we saw it all. As usual, all the clips used in this video were filmed on the same day. These were taken over four dives: morning and afternoon dives on the Riviera out of Dana Point Harbor. Tall ship festival to starboard!

Seal plays with diver's fins - Just the Bubbles Ep.2
Просмотров 2542 месяца назад
This juvenile harbor seal was almost too playful! We startled each other passing through the archway and he decided I needed some company for a while. Too cute! Also saw two large schools of jack mackerel, saw some large sheephead battling it out and took a trip through Starwars Canyon. Shaw's Cove, October 9, 2024 Shot on GoPro Hero 10 @GoPro

A bad day of diving is better than a good day at work, they say :) Visibility was quite bad by Hawaii standards on this day, though still better than we typically have in SoCal. First dive vis probably ranged 20-30ft, worse on the second at 15-20ft (but we stayed closer to some structure and so saw a lot more stuff on the second dive). My instabuddy Orianna was great! I hope we get to dive toge...
Swimming with Sharks! Oahu - March 2024
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.8 месяцев назад
We got to go snorkeling with sharks! We went with One Ocean Diving out of north Oahu and got to see a whole bunch of Galapagos sharks. Hayley, our awesome safety diver, also mentioned two other species present: sandbar sharks in the depths, just at the edge of visibility, and (I think) Blacktip sharks (though I may be remembering incorrectly). It was a super awesome experience to swim with thes...
Turtle Canyons, Nautilus Reef - March 20, 2024

Let's go scuba diving! Afternoon boat with Dive Oahu. The water was lovely and lots of critters. Turtle Canyons and Nautilus Reef, water temp 76 degrees. I was looking at a super cool Kangaroo nudibranch and didn't notice our first turtle of the day coming up right behind me! My camera was already rolling, so glancing up when DM Kevin tugged on my fin, I got a nice close-up as the turtle cruise...
What do you see down there?! California Scuba Diving - Just the Bubbles Ep.1

I am often asked what we see when diving in Laguna Beach. This is my new answer. We had a super relaxing dive at Shaw's Cove on Saturday 1/27/24 around 10am. Conditions were pretty good, visibility was 8-20ft depending on where we were, waves were small, and there wasn't too much surge outside of the swim throughs. I've been doing a lot of diving in San Diego, where the name of the game is macr...

Christmas Dives in Laguna 2020
Просмотров 1233 года назад
Dives from December 21st and 22nd at Shaw's and Diver's/Fisherman's. Fall is our best time of year for diving in Laguna with good visibility; these days were 25-40ft vis, with water temps of 59F. Thanks to my dive buddies, who are probably now spoiled ;-) In order of appearance, Bella, Sarah (first "fun" dive, yeay!), Stephanie, Megan and Charlotte. Lauren's Birthday! Dives at Casino Point - Nov 30, 2020
Просмотров 1484 года назад
Lauren, Megan, Mike and I head off to dive Catalina for Lauren's birthday. We did two dives in the dive park, with visibility of about 30-50ft, water temperature 61F. There were tons of fish, especially in a couple large schools of blacksmith, but also kelp bass, sheepshead, opal eye, and some kelpfish and garibaldi. No giant black sea bass today, but we did see a sea lion, a yawning kelp bass,...
Florida Dive Trip, July 2020

When all national events were cancelled this summer, my mom and I repurposed our planned trip to Florida into a dive vacation. We met up with Livvie and Jon and had a "real vacation": a great week of diving in warm, clear water; an adventure riding horses on the beach; a visit to the Space Center; a dolphin experience and other shenanigans. Liv joined us for two shallow reef dives in Islamorada...

What's your favorite sea critter??
Wow! Epic dives! What date was this?
This was September 14th, 2024 - back to back boat, so 4 dives total. Gotta love those epic days!
Seals are my absolute favorite animal. I can't imagie, what it is like to be this close to a wild one! We swam with Dolphins recently, so I imagine, that this might be similar :)
I have yet to swim with dolphins! I really want to. I have to think you're right, and it would be similar! It's always such an amazing experience to see large creatures in the water. To see this young seal so playful and curious was so much fun. We'll often see them at night (when it seems they're using our lights to hunt) but this summer I've had several encounters with this juvenile (I think it's the same one) during the day as well. I'm hoping they stick around :)
So beautiful ❤
Great video. Such a cool encounter esp in that surgy spot. Episode 1 ?
Thanks for watching! The video "What do you see down there?! California Scuba Diving" is episode 1 of this series - though I didn't know it at the time! Going forward, this is how I'll label videos with longer cuts and ambient sound. I like doing complex edits (in fact, I was busy working on one before getting this footage yesterday), but I also want to have a way to share these awesome swimming-through-the-kelp-forest experience-type clips that don't fit well into that format (and just end up sitting on my hard drive 😅) Heading to Oahu to see my brother early next month, holler if you want to dive!
Đẹp đỉnh quá bạn ỏi👍🩵👍🔔
Gorgeous!!! ❤🧡💛💜
First one in has the most guts on this one !
Haha, I was chomping at the bit! And surprisingly, nobody minded me jumping the line to be right after the divemaster 😉 🤣
@@divewithbrittany if you ever make it to Big Island there is a pretty great tiger shark shore dive I'd be happy to show you.
Lots of stuff. White stringy stuff behind juv yellowtail Coris (orange) is a medusa spaghetti worm.
Thanks, Paul! I kind of assumed it was some sort of tube anemone, but hadn't looked it up. Another new one to me was the Ewa Fangblenny at 1:40
I had to learn a vast number of new Hawaiian critters after diving most of my life Laguna/catalina, which was fun. @@divewithbrittany
Love this! Turtles are particularly cool
Agree! I loved seeing Kevin and the turtle looking at each other and then each going their separate ways. Super cool and respectful 🤙🏻
I thought that school of black surfperch looked familiar, we were there the same day a few hours later! That night there was so much glowing plankton we didnt have our lights on for half an hour 😁
Are you a scuba diver and do you have own scuba gear like wetsuit and dive gloves and dive hood and dive boots and dive fins and dive mask and scuba tank and bcd and regulator to breath from and breath underwater with scuba regulator who is your dive buddy and how long did it take you to do your scuba training and how dose it feel to breath underwater with scuba regulator
Yes, I am! You don't need to own all your own gear to go scuba diving, but it makes it a lot more comfortable and easy to go if you do. I usually wear a drysuit instead of a wetsuit, because I like to be toasty warm on longer dives - on this dive my buddy Matt and I stayed down for 80 minutes! The water was "warm" for this time of year here, and was only 60F. Often it will get down to about 54F in the winter/spring. When I took my open water class, we studied the book at home, did one day in the classroom, one day in the pool and then two days in the ocean. Breathing underwater feels amazing. I still remember the first time I got to breathe underwater. We did a Discover Scuba Diving and it was in a pool, but still so cool. I love the feeling of being weightless too and seeing all the creatures down there is what keeps me going again and again - you never know what you're going to see!
@@divewithbrittany what do i need for warm water diving
Hi I just wanted to say I enjoy watching your diving videos. How long have you been scuba diving. What’s your level of certification I’m also a certified scuba diver. I also have videos on here. If you have time check out my RUclips channel. I look forward to seeing more diving videos thanks for sharing.
Tunnels are great. Night too.
Haha, that's what Matt thought! And I agree! One of my favorite things to do on a calmish day - hunker down while the set goes over and then free ride all the way to the end :) I don't usually get it on video, but it definitely gets dark when a wave goes over and makes the Champagne room live up to its name.
Are guys scuba divers and do wear wetsuit and dive gloves and dive hoods and dive boots and dive fins and dive mask and scuba tanks and bcd and regulator breath from and breath underwater with scuba regulator
Yep! All those things, though several of us were wearing drysuits instead of wetsuits :)
Are you a scuba diver
Nice! Got some dives in before the big storm
That’s one aggressive sheepshead ! Wants a hand out.
Is it illegal to pee in the lake, I wonder? Cut your bladder out if caught?
I am not sure about the legality of it, but as we were wearing drysuits, I wasn’t about to find out! 😂
Nice ! Double moray crevice very cool.
Met you today at the dive shop, love the video! Looking forward to my first dive!
Nice Viz!!
Awesome highlights of Florida travel video.
Glad you enjoyed it! We definitely had a lot of fun :)
Beautiful video
Good video
Great video
Cool video and looks great training site
Vis was shot but this is so very cool! What dive shop did you guys go through?
Thanks for watching! Other than the local islands, Laguna has some of the best diving in SoCal.... but still, our summertime visibility averages about 10-15ft. Sunday was about 25-30, so we were actually super happy 😁. Beach Cities Scuba is the local dive shop.
@@divewithbrittany definitely going to have to check out the shop! My family is originally from SoCal and have always wanted to move back. Laguna is definitely top of the list of places to visit and this video got me so much more pumped!
Very cool video. Passport to a different world.
Nice video! :)
This is epic. Great video and those kelp forests 💓
Great video. Anacapa is awesome in the Fall and looks like conditions were primo. Cool new gear.
Thanks, Paul! Yeah, conditions were beautiful (much better than the only other time I've dove over there). It was a very fun trip and made me want to do it again soon.
Brittany Lockhart I used to camp on Anacapa thru “Island Packers”. Sheep tanks and kayaks. Could kayak/scuba from landing platform and both could be epic depending on conditions. Some amazing sea caves and arches nearby landing.
Wow what a dive! Nice group of specimens. That octopus 🐙 though! I just can’t believe the quality here, nice work👌.
Yeah, he was just out in the middle of the day, pretty awesome. Thank you!
Brittany Lockhart any pointers on diving this area? That’s a pretty long trek from the parking lot isn’t it?
Longer than Crescent or Shaw's, yeah. I have only dove it twice, I think. Both times we dove the Reef Point area, with the reef on your right going out and left coming back.
Brittany Lockhart thank you so much🤙
Hello Brittany, I’m new to diving and watch a lot of videos via RUclips for learning purposes and for other diver’s experiences. I must say that your content has definitely caught my eye. I love the point of views, quality, editing and the music🤙. I’m not sure if you have any how to videos on your GoPro set up or tip videos but I’d love to see them. I have not taken mine on a dive yet because I’m still learning to dive and getting the hang of it. I would appreciate any feed back on the GoPro settings, filters (if used), lighting, what anchor apparatus for the camera, and what post film editing you use. I’m also new to using a GoPro so there’s that😂. I love the films you have for the local beach dives as well because these are the places I’ll be diving as well. So far it’s only been Crescent Bay👌. I really appreciate you sharing your videos with such amazing content that’s pleasing to watch. Again, I appreciate any feedback, happy diving.
Hi Jimmy! Thanks for watching! I don't have any how-to videos yet, but you are not the first person to tell me I should make one, so I will look into that :-). I was starting to type my thoughts on gear configuration here... but I think it will be too long and this isn't the best place for it, so I will work on making a video or some other way to make that available. So, short(er) version: GoPro Hero 5 with Super Suit and 3-Way mount attached to a retractor on my BCD. No filters, for close up I use direct lighting, for shots where there is a lot of water I have been adjusting in post. Light is a hand-mounted Sola Dive 2500 Spot/Flood (always set to Flood mode for video) Editing I have been doing in DaVinci Resolve. It is a professional grade software that is free. Good news: it can do anything you want it to do (and it's free). Bad news: it can do a whole lot of things you don't need, which makes the user interface difficult to get used to. It is designed for professionals, not the average person, so plan on spending some time on RUclips learning how to get around in there. I really like the videos these guys do: ruclips.net/user/LearnColorGrading. I hope that is helpful. I will work on making a video that passes along the lessons I have learned (so far). Again, thanks for watching!
Brittany Lockhart thank you for getting back so quickly. I will definitely check out the link, much appreciated.
Thanks, I miss California diving. Shaw's on a calm day/night in the slots can be magic.
True! I can't wait to get back out to Catalina again. Hopefully soon.... I still remember being surrounded by all those GSB. Good times! :-)
Brittany Lockhart I’m on the Big Island these days but hope to visit family in So Cal in the Fall. PDT. Prime Dive Time.
Nice video ! Where I was certified about 45 plus years ago. Good to see Abs and Lobsters are there.
Awesome! We did see quite a few lobster....but none that looked legal to me. Lot's of little ones, though! It is definitely cool to see the abalone coming back, too.
Beautiful. One of the clearest places anywhere !
