It may because shes overweight. I will say its quite hard to get them to lose weight unless you can let them run around. You can try to just do hay or limit pellets. I would not give any treats. If you can not feel there spin then they are overweight. I feed G&M feed and we live in Thomasville NC. It may be worth the drive to get the G&M. I believe there is a mill in Mocksville if that may be closer. Also I rebreed three weeks after kindling fall, winter, spring and summer they get a break. In the summer its not really a issue for weight gain because rabbits dont eat as much in the heat.

My sisters children raised show rabbits, when the temps were extreme, they would keep the nesting boxes in the house and take them out 2 to three times in 24 hours for the mom to feed. The nesting box is transported back and forth,The mothers milk is very rich and they don’t spend much time in the nest feeding. So this enabled the kits to survive until they got a little bigger,like 10 days.

Hey, I’m in central NC - glad to hear you fared well thru Helene. I’ve purchased cage mats from K&G Cages. They’re fine tho lightweight. My girls like to move them around and redecorate frequently. I tried using a “plastic” cutting board for awhile. It’s food-safe and easily cleaned. Nice looking bunch of bunnies. And yes, many prayers and cash sent to WNC.

i live in AZ and breed rex (standard) to keep my rabbits cool i fill ocean spray bottles with water then freeze them and bring the frozen bottles out to the rabbits its been 112 and i have yet to loose a bunny to heat.

Put those tile in the freezer !!!!

I. Am. SO sorry to hear about those babies! 😭 Please consider leaving a “breezeway” in your tarp for circulation of air. Whichever way the prevailing wind blows where you are. This is extremely important when heat can’t escape upward. I’ve been saving plastic water bottles, and the ice pack method certainly helps for the price of water and refrigeration, as does a fan if you can afford to get some small battery or solar ones. I’m a dirt poor rabbit farmer myself; please don’t think I’m trying to throw shame at you for anything. Mini rex is a way tougher breed to raise than the ones I have.

Goodness. Mini rex have such small litters! I had to look it up, and I’m astonished. My standard rex just had 7 as a late first time breeder. Apparently anything and everything affects a rabbit’s litter size, from breeding too early, late, or too middle of the road (ok, the last part was a joke). When did you first breed Daisy?

Do the babies fur have that velvet feeling when the fur starts growing?
