Park City Art Retreat - Reignite Your Fire : Encaustic Painting + Restoration
I offer art and transformational retreats and this experience was truly magical. 10 women, painting and connecting in the glorious mountains of Park City, Utah, reigniting their souls. They learned the ancient art of encaustic painting using beeswax and fire while being inspired by nature. Even a momma and baby moose graced our presence as we began the morning with yoga! So, discovering the ancient Egyptian method of encaustic painting was like bringing nature...

"We must let go of the life we have planned so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.” Joseph Campbell’s quote animates this multiple exposure image. The figure’s gestures evoke the dynamism of yin-yang energies, further reflected in her 50-50 encaustic resin treatment laced with alcohol ink. Our story behind the art. This collaborative art piece is a representation of how we each grow fr...
PennyTreese ~ Fine Artist : Why water flows through my art

Water is life. My life. During my darkest times, I return to water. In the ocean, I float, buoyed, free, its eternity seeping into my cells and my soul. While it ebbs & flows, its gentleness belies its enduring strength, carving out canyons with its resolve. It is my wellspring of creation, of rebirth. Its undulations and stillnesses flow through my art. Creating becomes my ocean, and I surrend...

    encaustic gesso added?

    • @PennyTreeseFineArtist
      @PennyTreeseFineArtist 3 года назад

      When I want my images to stay true to color, allowing the whites to retain their whiteness and such, I'll use encaustic gesso as a base. Sometimes I don't use gesso and enjoy the earthy, warm, organic look of the birch wood tone that appears through the specific paper I've used with an image. If you'd like to see side/side images of my paintings with and without gesso, we can continue the conversation via my website/email/etc. Thank you for your interest in my video and process.

      Yes, I glued the photo to the panel with Yes Paste, allowed it to adhere for 24 hours, weighted down. I use matte photographic prints so that the wax will fuse to the paper and panel beneath. Does this help? Thank you!

    encaustic medium NEVER ,dry clear, it is not like resin at all, and it is the best property of wax, when more thick is the wax layer, more cloudy is the surface.

    • @PennyTreeseFineArtist
      @PennyTreeseFineArtist 3 года назад

      I like the cloudy effect on some pieces. Others, I achieve a clear, translucent and almost transparent look when the wax is applied in a thin coat then ironed to fuse. Thank you for replying! ☺️

    what type of paper do you print your photos on and do you use ink jet or laser printer?

    • @PennyTreeseFineArtist
      @PennyTreeseFineArtist 3 года назад

      Ink jet or matte paper which absorbs the wax perfectly. You can use inexpensive ink jet copy paper and although the prints look dull, once the wax fuses into the print the colors become beautifully saturated. Thank you for watching! I provide FaceTime private lessons if you get the basic supplies and walk you through the encaustic process as you interact live.

    Hi! You said the wax would become clear .. what process do you use for that? Just time? I think my experiments stay cloudy. Thanks!

    • @johnboeckeler9760
      @johnboeckeler9760 4 года назад

      Wait at least a day after the wax has hardened, then rub it lightly with a soft cotton cloth, such as an old T shirt, to eliminate the cloudiness.

    • @PennyTreeseFineArtist
      @PennyTreeseFineArtist 3 года назад

      I agree, to use a soft cloth the next day, which helps remove impurities from the wax, rising to the surface. I have achieved a clear effect with one coat of wax. But it is not clear and shiny like resin. Yes, that is the beauty of encaustic and using wax, for an ethereal, soft, sometimes cloudy effect. Natural, not synthetic

      I’m sorry I didn’t see your comment. I learned from 2 encaustic masters that damar was not necessary and in my findings over the past 15 years, my ironed encaustic pieces on panel and watercolor paper have stayed true to color and have not cracked. The purges using damar or carnauba have all discolored and cracked. I hope this helps☺️
