Hiking to the highest pub in Great Britain!!
Join me as I hike from the stunningly picturesque village of Keld in the North Yorkshire Dales up to the Tan Hill Inn - The highest pub in Great Britain. In mild but windy conditions I take the famous Pennine Way path through the open moorland up on to the fells taking in some of the finest views anywhere. This is a good one.

Epic Yorkshire 3 Peaks hike
Просмотров 5 тыс.Год назад
Join me as a take on the famous Yorkshire 3 Peaks hike. Hiking on my own I take on Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen Y Ghent across 24 miles of the finest countryside the UK has to offer, dodging spells of strong wind and rain whilst enjoying plenty of much appreciated but not forecasted sunshine. A challenging route, the route I take is not the typical route as I decided to start with Whernside,...

What footwear do you wear for this type of trail?

I stayed with you for 12 minutes. I really liked your honesty about your knowledge of the Ribblehead viaduct, and you said the same the same things about the Blea Moor signalman's house as my partner and I have said every time we walked past that sale board - it's gone now, sold. Good point about knees descending off Whernside. It's undone me once in the fell race the drop off there, and seem to always get stuck behind a big queue of people these days struggling with that descent.

The standing stones are better known as "Nine Standard Rigg" between the Pub and Kirkby Stephens

Great thank you. I also read somewhere they were erected to look like ogres or such creatures that were part of the local folklore. I guess there's likely a few different stories.

@@windsweptwanderer Yes and the most common one I have heard from several Hikers of the Pennine Way is the 9 Standards supportingthe 9 Roman legion Flags. PS I have completed the Pennine Way twice, once in each direction, the first in 1977 (prior to joining the Army at the ripe old age of 23)to improve my fitness and map reading skills the other was in 1980 after I left the Army. I have also completed the Coast to Coast which also passes through Keld in 1981 & 1982. I have also hiked with Ian Botham on his Aberdeen to Ipswich Walk, and the BIG ONE John OGroats to Land End. Tony in Essex. Retired from work and I spend most my time watching other Hikers doing Long Distance Hkles.

I did the three peaks a couple of years ago (in October) on my own. Parked in the layby in Horton overnight and set off at 6am so did the climb up PenYGhent in pitch darkness with only the sheep for company. Got to the top for sunrise but the cloud scuppered that idea! Diverted to see Hull Pot on the way to Whernside which mean a terrible boggy route back to the proper path! Whernside was an ok climb but i agree the descent is horrible. The usual climb up Ingleborough was closed so had to take a diverted route which was an horrendous scramble up a peat bog... took me an hour to do150m! I was so glad to get back to the van afterwards, it rained for the last 2 hrs but an enormous sense of achievement!!

It's a cracker of a walk, I've done it a couple of.times now and will don't again this year I'm sure. Mind, I might not if I'd been diverted that much!! It's hard enough doing the paved route.

Really well edited and presented Adam. If you do any more walking ones, it is always nice to see you get back to the van, a great opportunity to show your handy work too - also if you end up in a pub, so we know it for reference 😀🍻 Wish you’d given me the call as I wasn’t doing anything that day. If you ever fancy a day trip across to The Lakes to do a few Wainwrights let me know 👍🏼🙂
