Thanks GoMotorSportsShop.com for providing a flawless car that ran perfectly for all sessions. This was my first time ever driving a Legends car but after practicing a lot in iRacing I was able to jum...

How To Winterize a Formula Vee

This video shows how I winterize my Formula Vee. NOTE: Be sure that you leave yourself a note that you have loosened the valve train! You don't want to try to start the engine with the lifters finger tight!!

Checking Oil in my Formula Vee
Просмотров 291Год назад
Checking the oil level in your Formula Vee is very important! Check with your engine builder for the level you should be running. Note that there are many different oil setups. My setup does not use a full flow so it requires running the engine a bit longer and revving it up to make sure the filter and cooler are full. Your setup may not require this.

NEFV Thompson Champions Weekend 10/15/22 Race #3
Hello from South Africa.I use two aluminium pipes at either end of car for wheel aligment. Then tie cotton around each end of tubes then measure with steel ruler.Much simpilar method. Do you change height of rear trailing arms at mounting to rear of frame.I run mine down to rear of car.
Tape or anti vibration rubbers
Excellent footage ty
Looks like a lot of fun, Mike. Not switching from Vee?
You never know what the future holds...
Never heard of arcing before, but I was advised to do it with my 1959 Porsche and this video was a great help. Quick question is what grade grit paper did you use? Thanks, Tim
Soap Stone
Great race, congrats!
Glad everybody is ok
wow, great job, love the commentary
F1 drivers don't slow and almost stop for a blue flag. They move off line but I doubt they even lift
By the way.. nice race!
Another thing that should be mentioned is that you should "GLUE" (I use Red RTV) the gasket into the valve cover. And always check the gasket itself to make sure it hasn't already shrunk on the shelf. Clean the valve cover and head surfaces well, then coat both sides of the gasket with the RTV. If you have a spare head, lay the gasket into the valve cover and then place the valve cover on the head with a light weight on the cover and allow it to set/dry for at least a couple of hours. I generally just leave it overnight. If you don't have a spare head, then place the valve cover in place, but do NOT snap the bale - snapping the bale before the sealer sets might cause the gasket to 'squish out', so just use 'something' to hold the cover in place with a bit of pressure till the RTV sets. After the gasket is dry in the cover, remove the cover and recheck to make sure the gasket is 'stuck' well and in the proper position. Then apply a light coat of oil on the gasket and the head surface, put it on the head and snap the bale. This is to keep the gasket from being 'sucked in' during a race. The valve cover doesn't have a ridge of any sort holding the gasket on the inside edge and the vacuum of the engine can suck the gasket in at the top or bottom (usually the bottom since it's the long side) and dump your oil OUT on the track- eventually starving your engine of the oil it so desperately needs to live - since it's behind you, you can't see it from the driver's seat. When your oil light comes on, it's already too late! The light coat of oil on the gasket will help to keep the gasket from becoming STUCK to the head when you remove the cover. If done correctly, you will probably NEVER have to repeat this process. The coat of RTV also helps to keep the gasket from shrinking. I have the same gaskets on my engines for YEARS with no leaks. However, be sure to check them EVERY TIME you remove the cover for any reason. EXTRA SPECIALLY if you have to remove the cover before an important session .. like the RACE! I try to NEVER remove a valve cover before a race session... unless I REALLY HAVE TO.
Wild zero roll stiffness on the back with torque arms extending up from behind the gearbox require some explanation of latest swing arm geometry.
Good race! sponsered by iracing?
Future "dark" races that are dry could just be run with them switched off, I suppose...
Love this, one thing I do differently to save time is use toe plates. Totally agree with sharing info of what “the fast guys run” it’s more fun if everyone goes fast! Nobody believes me when i say there’s nothing special just drive it faster
good point, i've does toe like this on (heavier cars) and when you just because of tyre to floor scrub without played to need to roll the car back and forth a few feet for it to settle where it actually is.
You can buy sand bags to simulate driver weight, 4 50# bags can be spread out where driver weight would be. Empty out 1 bag as needed to get more precise or add some over 200.
I use to do the same thing by stacking tires over the front end but after some time I found just using the oring on the shock method is pretty much just as good and less of a hassle but whatever works for you is the best solution!
Just uploaded my race from Friday and a good POV of Chase collecting Tyler. Hopefully I didn't get in y'all's way too much in turn 2 to 3.
Nice win!
Loved that race. It was a lot fun. Sad I couldn’t challenge you for the win at the end.
Nice,,,enjoyed that a lot.
Well done, Mike
Stellar racecraft Michael! Congrats!
Great race, guys.
That race was a lot of fun. It’s always great racing with you.
Hard to tell how loud it is through the video but the electric power steering whine appears normal. I too worried about mine, I have a 08 s40 and it has made this whine for the past five years I have owned it. I’ve listened to other similar Volvos and they sound the same.
Hi there - interesting video! What type of Formula Vee is this (i.e., manufacturer/model)?
It's a Protoform P2
The commentary adds context of championship, otherwise its just another race video, thanks
Another great video! 👍
Yeah guy!
Nice you changed it to not made for kids so I can comment.... when you say "this engine likes to run lower than tis mark", is that because you were getting too much in overflow can or another way of telling that?
I messaged him on Facebook to let him know to change it 😂😂 did same thing on mine for a bit till I figured it out. Allso love your videos btw !
Correct, when you overfill the oil the engine will dump it out into the overflow tank, out of the seals or even get into the combustion chamber and burn it causing excessive smoke. So when I fill it much higher then about 3/8 of an inch over the full line while running it starts to come out everywhere.
@heckler1101 ok, I've had to slowly adjust to find that spot too. I was wondering if engine builder found something on the dyno or whatever other vee black magic secrets....
Excellent video, would love to see more like this.
Any overheating problems?
Did you just tape around the bottom part or did you tape it to the frame?
Unlucky Mike next year 😉
What is that? Gorilla tape? Or electrical tape?
I used rubber tape. www.homedepot.com/p/Commercial-Electric-3-4-in-x-22-ft-Rubber-Splicing-Tape-30005335/206874171
@@heckler1101 thank you!
What u have your hand on is the electric power steering pump
It's bad power steering pump..starting to wear out or fluid in its saverely dirty
Hey so I came across this video and your comment, I have the same noise on my t5 when I steer it’s a loud whine noise becoming louder progressively after a howl came on my engine I thooght it was the pcv diaphragm but I already replaced it and that wasn’t the issue, the very first time I heard the noise I pulled over and saw smoke coming from the belts and pulley part of the engine . Do you think my power steering pump is going out or my electric ? I think it’s my power steering pump
?
Why does it do this?
Normal to me cause my v50 does the same... electric power steering, not belt driven. Be more concerned with pcv on it.
Volvo...figures
Estaria bien k eaplicaras un poco de lo k estas asiendo
This guy Hasn't got a clue what hes doing
so youre the expert ? whats he done wrong ?

Pure shade tree work!
tape the problem lol
hi . I want to do same work on my beam....can I weld it with a 110 volt harbor freight welding machine? or do i need to purchase something stronger? thank you
Same thing i wanted to know I have those electric ones fron harbour freight too
Tape?
Be great to see a narrowing beam job with adjusters from you... cheers
