Thank you very much for this informative video. I just bought one of these used, and this is good info. Now, to the advertisers..... DO YOU REALLY THINK WE ARE STUPID ENOUGH TO THINK THAT PUTTING A SPOON UPSIDE OUR HEAD AND TAPPING ON IT WILL HELP US HEAR BETTER??? OR PUTTING ONE ON OUR EYES AND TAPPING WILL IMPROVE OUR VISION?? YOU MUST THINK WE'RE IDIOTS! NOBODY COULD BE THAT STUPID! PLEASE GO AWAY AND STOP INSULTING OUR INTELLIGENCE!

i just got me a HS521 for free from someone who couldn’t start it anymore, full tank of gas looked brand new but is over 20 years old i drained the gas, oil, replaced spark plug, added new honda oil and ethanol free gas and started right up! I can finally get rid of my gargantuan 2 stage snowblower that takes up too much space 😂 i know it’s a downgrade but we only get snow 3-4 times a year now.

I also got mine free, mine was rusty and abused. I replaced the west parts and gave it some new paint after taking care of the rust. Now I use it commercially on residential properties. Works like a champ, couldn’t be happier with it.

You probably need new scraper and paddles.

The paddles are what propel it forward, over time they wear and need replacement

I've had the 520 and the older HS621. Both on-off switches failed prematurely. No matter the position, it's always ON. I have to pull the plug wire to shut it off.

Just got one someone gave us and obviously well used. It starts...it runs...for about 3-5 minutes . Then stops. And gas fumes are bad...guessing leak somewhere..and suggestions on what to look at first?

These models has a problem with the bolt that secures the carb bowl. It works loose from vibration, and then when you tighten it, it breaks the bottom shaft where it attaches. If you remove the float bowl, you'll see the carb is made of cast white metal.

The engine on this thing is just a Honda GCV 190 turned on its side, luckily it is a really good engine

      It's actually a 160. The 190 is for the 720.

I have the same model without the electric start. The spark plug cover door does not stay on when the engine is running. I bought a replacement cover, and it does the same thing. Any help?

I got some Gorilla Tape and used that

@@Warzau Does Gorilla Tape not leave some residue after, say, 6 months?

    • @Warzau

@@jimbohnenkamp5082 it hasnt on mine. My HS520 plastic shroud split right there just under the spark plug access panel. So like you the cover kept falling off and in. So I used a strip of gorilla tape and it’s held In place since last year. I am able to remove it when I was servicing the blower last week. No residue so far.

If your gas doesn't have ethanol (lucky!) I don't think there needs to be as much emphasis on having fresh gas. As Long as your gas can/tank doesn't let in much air.

very good explanation with detail and good questions too. I was wondering what to do with old gas and here you go. We really need sales people like this for all the appliance and power equipments, many here became salesmen but don't know their products at all.

I owned the Honda HS700 for four seasons now and it’s a great machine. I agree with the serviceman here. As he said, ethanol-free (premium gasoline is not ethanol-free; you must google ethanol-free gasoline in your state and buy that) is best...much better than adding stabilizers or Sea Foam. Rather than siphoning gasoline from the machine, I put a reminder in my phone so that once a month I start my Honda snowthrower, Honda push mower, Honda i2000 generator, and my Deere lawn tractor faithfully and run them in my driveway for 15 minutes. Yep, at least 12 times per year. Avoids all storage problems and I’ve never had to drain the carb bowl (although it’s easy enough, as he shows...but it’s easy to run it also...lol). It’s good to work the mechanicals, get the oil moving, etc. by running it monthly...it’s not just about gasoline. Tip: You will get frustrated at wet snow sticking in the chute...it’s a real bugaboo with all single stage blowers. Must liberally spray the inside of the chute (and I do the rear wheels since snow gums them up too) with silicone spray before using in damp snow (i.e. anything but the fluffiest stuff). It’s an awesome little machine (just be sure to go out every 4 inches of snow or so...so in a 12 inch storm, you’ll be blowing three times...or it’ll be much harder on you and on the machine if you let it get too high). Once or twice a season I use the electric start just to be sure it’s connected and working well. New purchasers often miss the point of electric start...it’s not so much for easy starting without pulling as it is a backup starting method when the pull cord eventually breaks or pulls out of it’s connection housing; standing in the driveway in a snowstorm with the pull cord dangling from one’s hand will make a person mighty grateful for the electric start...lol. I hope you enjoy your Honda, and thanks for posting this video...it’ll help tons of people.
