Jeep Rubicon 392: The Coilover Spring Upgrade We’ve All Been Waiting For
Does your coilover set handle the weight well when you’re loaded up with camping gear?
@@Benatc1 overall really well in my opinion, I have it sitting just a touch high in the rear so it can handle a bit of I want to say I only bottomed out once on our last camping trip, with a heavy tent a lot of gear. The nice thing is you can make spring rate or height adjustments

Yes! Glad you were able to find me!
Certainly many different types of build for different types of adventures, let me know your thoughts on what works best for you!
I live in northern Nevada and I curious on what trail or canyon is this?
@@derekmatheus3178 I’m not sure if it has a name or not, but I’ll give you general info, only a mile or 2 past the shooting range on your way up to Pyramid lake from Spanish springs. Easy to spot staging area on your left. Kinda a network of trails, so adventure from there but you can know if you’re on the track via the video.
@@derekmatheus3178 thanks for tuning in!
@ Absolutely! Thank you for the information I’m fairly familiar with that area so I’m going to be looking into this for an adventure. Safe travels and thank you again
Safe travels and I hope you have a great time!
Whatever it is that you do, take time to enjoy it!
😍

Jeep's suck and overrated vehicles!
Ha if you say so!
Really liked the scene around 6:20, cool usage of filming
@@Benatc1 I appreciate you saying so!
Loved the scene with the sun setting around 4:39
@@Benatc1 thank you! I’m glad I caught that time lapse even with how much of a rush we were to beat the sun set.
Badass shot of the coilover! 5:38
Thank you!
Rock crawling trails, that not the average person will ever get to see
That’s a great point!
Who knew Nevada has such epic views??
Looking great! How are 38 performing on stock axel did you also got a hydo steering assit?
@@karantiwana3273 so far so good, with the 392 I have plenty of power, but really haven’t felt the need to regear when I weight it against getting a smaller pinion. In terms of the axle it self and the shafts/bearing/ball joints ect, they have also held up great, but will certainly be at risk and could wear out faster. Hydro assist is likely my next mod, it’s really not that bad, but certainly would like more turning power in the rocks. Hopefully in the next 6 months I can get that installed. Thanks for tuning in!
Music was fine.
I appreciate you saying so, as I’m currently editing and about to release my next film, I realized I might have made it a bit loud but always working to get better is key. Thanks for tuning in!
If your intention was to make this trip as difficult and miserable as possible you succeeded. You obviously do not know extreme Northern Nevada very well. Instead of going during the winter the ideal time would have been in early to mid-September when the temperatures are warm and there is no rain, mud or snow. We have lived in northern Nevada for 40 years and have a remote ranch that is about a 90 minute drive from Massacre Rim. The route you took was very difficult. The easiest route, using all paved roads, would have been to go north on Interstate 80 to Winnemucca, then turn off on US Hwy 95 and go north to Nevada state route 140 and go west to the Sheldon National Antelope Refuge. About half way through the refuge from the paved highway there is a turnoff to go to Massacre Rim on a good dirt road. The BLM even has a cabin there you can reserve, at no cost, at Massacre Rim when you could have stayed warm and dry. On a clear moonless night we can see the the dark sky from our ranch almost as well as from Massacre Rim since the nearest light is 35 miles away.
@@alandistefano3237 hard to argue with you, but what’s the fun in that? Part of my passion is exploring and getting off the grid in my Jeep which is very capable of making that journey any time of the year. That challenge drives me to explore further. Shoot the way that I went home through Alturas was incredibly easy, and I still had a driveshaft failure, so anything can happen, but I do plan on going back this coming summer with a few other people who don’t have as built of vehicles, so I’m going to keep your directions in mind. Your ranch sounds pretty bad as too, thanks for tuning in!
epic ride. that fog is wild.
It was definitely intense, incredibly relieved when we finally drove out of it, though I was really looking fwd to cruising the playa, always next time though. Thanks for tuning in!
I don't know how you made it through that 2 inches of relentless snow !! 😂 You and Desert Drifter must have went to the same school of narration , which I don't care for . But it's America knock yourself out !!
@@TheSlagman0 fortunately the snow wasn’t an issue for the Jeep, just the ability to see the dark sky, but nevertheless, I appreciate your feedback, thanks for tuning in!
The drone shot at 12:22 might be the nicest, and most creative use of a drone I've seen. Wonderful composition. Great job.
I appreciate you saying so, and thank you for the compliment!
The narration sounds a lot like fear and loathing in Las Vegas
I’m gonna take that as a good thing.. hope you enjoyed the video!
Great video 👍
@@americanpatriot7702 Thank you!
Do you carry a satellite phone? You're a long way from civilization and if you get stranded or have any kind of medical emergency, could be real dangerous. If you look at your analytics, you'll probably find your average view duration pretty low. As some commented, the music was a bit much and that will send people scurrying. Also, you probably could have shaved 2-3 minutes off the video. Less drone follow-me time. RUclips viewers have short attention spans. If you're going to add music to your videos, turn the volume way down so it's very light background music. Overall, it's a well produced video but going forward, some adjustments could be made to hold the viewers attention. That's my opinion anyway. Good luck with your channel.
So as far as the satellite phone, the short answer is no, but it is on my very short list to get, especially after this trip. I’m still doing some research on the best way to go. Also, thank you very much for your honest constructive feedback, it’s going to help me get better at doing this, as my goal is to create something that many want to enjoy and feel a part of. I definitely appreciate it.
As a reminder if you carry an IPhone 15 or newer you have satellite SOS text capability, More features for texting coming soon on the Apple platform and some androids also have satellite SOS abilities. I also carry a PLB (Personal Location Beacon) for life threatening situations. Enjoyed your attention to a quality video and scripting.
That’s good to know, I still have a 14 but might be upgrading soon, I’ll have to look more into that. Thank you for the tip!
Why premium fuel?
The Rubicon 392, with the 6.4 Hemi SRT requires premium fuel right from the factory.
Subbed to see part II. I live in Northern Nevada, so I find this interesting. No shortage of pitch black skies all over Nevada.
No doubt about that! Here is a link to part 2 Surviving a Freezing Night Under the Stars- Part 2 Journey To The Darkest place on Earth, ruclips.net/video/rmeX5bhNCjk/видео.html
music sucks had to stop watching
Thanks for the Feedback
As a lifelong northern Nevadan, I’m sure you meant darkest spot in the U.S. not on the earth.
@@JMW-h2r while your comment is true, Massacre Rim, being it has been giving the designation of an international dark sky sanctuary, the classification refers to 22 places that have been designated around the world, sure there are places that haven’t been identified yet, but it hold the highest classification and stands with places that have been designated across the world. Certainly one of the darkest places in the USA, but also holds enough clout to be among others from multiple foreign counties. Check out Darksky.org for more info!
From the title of the video I assumed you drove to Detroit …… I guess not .😏😆. Glad you survived. 😎👍

Ok, so, how far, off the beaten track were you, from that last gas station, with a 392 ... carrying extra Jerry cans of gas ... Were you at all worried, about running out of fuel, anywhere out there, in the wilderness?? (Before you could return, to that gas station, after the adventure)
@@krisorendorff so the worry definitely crossed my mind, I was about 150 dirt miles from the gas station that I last filled up at, unsure of the terrain I wasn’t fully confident in what my MPGs were going to be, but I usually get around 11mpg driving around town, so some basic math told be I could count on about 220 miles till empty. I carried 4 extra gallons of full jic. But the catch was I knew I wasn’t going home the same way, so I only had 40 miles out to the closest town, so while I was able to do it all in one shot, I always like to play it safe.
Start by not leaving your power stations or any battery on the ground overnight…especially when it’s below freezing 🥶. Nice rig. Love the videos. Sub’d. 😊
@@kamikazekunze your absolutely right! When I tested at home, it got down to 25 and was on my retaining wall, I definitely underestimated the level of cold we ended up in and the snow was definitely a factor. Had they been under a of the ground I probably would have been ok, live and learn i guess. Also a good excuse to go back. Thanks for kind words, more content coming soon!
Amazing cinematic video and story telling. I don't now what part of NV you are from but there is so much more to see in the Black Rock region.
Thanks for the Feedback, and Couldn’t agree more. The Nevada Desert is an amazing place, especially up there. Will certainly be making more tips for sure!
What is with the Ear Damaging Music ?
Thanks for the feedback! I’ll can tone it down next time!
Yup. This is unwatchable. Too bad.
What industry maintains those roads? Like a highway to no where.
Not much maintenance out that way, I’m sure on a snowing day it would have been a mess
Nice set up, have been thinking about putting that setup on my 392, and since you gave your spring rate breakdown, I know where to go with mine, cause now I've got about 7" of lift on 40" tires with Currie Extreme 60 high pinion axles front and back 😎😎 great video 👍👍
Thank you, glad I could help, I had way too much lift and even with just 38s it was really tall and looked awkward before. So far since making this video I’ve been really happy, I did bottom out the rear a couple times when going hard on my latest video, but I had a massive RTT and a ton of gear in the back so I’m super happy with it.
Yea everyone in a Jeep is literally an idiot.
