Hi! I'm Alex, and this is my channel.
I cover manga frequently, but sometimes I'll sprinkle in related nerd culture topics such as, but not limited to: anime, art, writing, and video games.
One day I will consistently upload videos, and everything will be just great.

The Secret Language Of Satoshi Kon
Satoshi Kon was a master storyteller. Between his films and his work as a mangaka, Kon developed a knack for storytelling. And although his manga Opus is a fantastic piece of early work, Kon seemed most in his element as he fulfilled the role of a film director. Four movies made over the course of a decade gave Kon the international limelight and separated him from his contemporaries. Today we watch movies like Perfect Blue and Paprika in awe, not just for their vibrant, stunningly choreographed animations, but for Kon's ability to transform the written word into a visual art form.

How Osamu Tezuka Became the God of Manga
Просмотров 36 тыс.3 года назад
Osamu Tezuka posthumously is known as the godfather of manga, the father of manga, or just simply the god of manga. In this video, we will take a closer look at Tezuka-san's life and his work. We will start with Astro Boy, Tezuka's most well-known and adapted work. Without Astro Boy, modern Shounen manga would be a vastly different reading experience. Then we will move into Tezuka's later years...
Games That Wouldn't Exist Without Kentaro Miura
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.3 года назад
Kentaro Miura, the mind and creator behind one of the world's most famous manga series, Berserk, has recently passed away. His legacy is forever etched in comic book history, but his influence reaches far beyond the manga industry and cuts deep into Japanese pop culture. In this video, I wanted to look at the games that defined my childhood and my adulthood, games that would not exist without M...
Why You Should Read Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
Просмотров 37 тыс.3 года назад
Think of this as an updated follow-up to my previous video. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind takes us back to the early days of Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki's work. Rather than looking at the film, I wanted to focus on Miyazaki's manga. Always remember to engage with the video (like, comment, subscribe) if you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
The Secret Colors of Studio Ghibli

Studio Ghibli is beloved by many, (including me), namely for the group's inspiring, imaginative films and the company's visionary leader, Hayao Miyazaki. The company has been praised and talked about repeatedly over the years, especially on RUclips. In this brief video, I throw my hat into the ring to talk about the role color plays in the studio's films. I wanted to take many examples from the...
and the famous Lion King cartoon apparently imitated the cartoon character Kimba the white lion by Osamu Tezuka

This dude’s videos were getting views. Wonder why he dipped.
Whats the anime in the thumbnail!?
Great video! This make me decide for buying a Nausicaa box set. Suggestion: put a link affiliated in your description next time. Thank you! 😉
Nausicaa Manga (Miyazaki's Magnum Opus!)
The manga is so amazing, that having first watched the movie years ago - i saw the panels as scenes in the film. I just finished reading vol 1 of the 2-volume box, and then rewatched the film. The film looses in the comparison, but this is definitely a case of _watch the film, _*_then_*_ read the manga_ Good vid, bro!
Why he stopped uploading 😢
The narrator sounded semi-bored with his own material. 😢
Dororo?
I praise for your encourage to introduce Osamu Tezuka as Manga’s god of all over the world.Thank you!
Im tried to read this many times my vision has just gotten worse with time if i was younger i would be but can't even see the drawing very well its hard to enjoy something when you lose the ability to experience it
I dont think Nausicaa falls into the cliche of saving the world, instead she is supposed to lead people to a pure world. The world is already doing its stuff cleansing itself from the decaying humanity. Its more about learning to live in harmony with the new world.
tezuka is the walt disney of manga
Osamu Tezuka is incredible. At least artistically, he reminds me so much of Walt Disney.
I think the Nausicaa manga might be my all time favourite work of fiction
reading it now, it's amazing
宮崎の漫画は下手。アニメはともかく
Their is a team of artists that recreated Phoenix, based off of Osamu Tezuka's works. Im currently reading it eight now, and it s quite good! I suggest you read it, its called Team Phoenix by Kenny Ruiz
Tezuka's honorific titles are all well earned. Though there was Japanese sequential art and Japanese animation before him, he laid the foundations of modern manga and anime. He was so prolific, his work was so varied and he is so influential that everyone that came after him, from Go Nagai to Akira Toriyama to today's manga superstars, are all standing on his shoulders. If you are really passionate about the artforms of manga or anime, I would highly suggest watching or reading some Tezuka. I'm currently watching the 1980 Astro Boy and it is a masterpiece.
In the far future since the 2030s or 2040s, we hope there will be new remake movies and TV series 'Astro Boy / Iron Arm' produced by 'Walt Disney Animation Studio'. 'ASTRO BOY / IRON ARM' series is syrely originally designed by Osamu Tezuka. 'Astro Boy / Iron Arm' series look like and truly fit to 'Walt Disney Animation'.
Great insight into the movie. I need to purchase the mangas now to get a better view into the Nausicaä story. As Miyazaki may be making a Nausicaä sequel movie
Nausicaa is definitely a top manga for me. Probably number 2 after Berserk.
I feel like this video simply scratched the surface of the brilliance in the Nausicaä manga! There’s the nuanced and twisted lore and development in Kushana’s character, side plots felt equally as important as Nausicaä’s, and the main character herself was compared to a younger version of one of the main villains! And there’s even more to talk about than that! I always hear people saying that the “mangas are better than the animes”, but Nausicaä is the first medium that I truly believed that!
It was a shame the movie decided to take a much lighter hearted approach and much of the dark and heavy gravity was removed. But Miyazaki did bring that level of heavy back for Princess Mononoke. ^_^
Beatiful films and very nice video!
What i Love about Tezuka's Art Style, it's Simple, Cartoonist, and just Eady to see... It can get Funny and Darl without Losing it's Touch, something i adore of the Old Art Style!
"Is Bambi that good" Man, even Hitler loved that. Bambi is such a universal cute childhood to man kind of story. Even people who hate the USA think it's good. Of course, if you're quite cynic about it, then you will not enjoy it. You have to go with an open heart to see it. And if you can't, well. Your loss.
I recently found your channel and binged your videos. Your style for video essays is fantastic. I hope you are well and maybe one day you might post some more!
Around the 1:30 you put an amazing piano music on the background. I would love to know the title of it, it sounds so deep and beautiful. Thank you in advance
Echiiro ODA the GOAT❤❤
Beautiful ❤️
Thank you for the video on Michio Yasuda. I'm hoping you'll do another video, but this time on Katsuo Oga & his gorgeous background work.
I really wanted to read ``Teppo Samurai Ebisu Hachirota,'' which Miyazaki wrote after ``The Wind Rises,'' but he stopped writing halfway through. That manga was set in almost the same era as Princess Mononoke, so it may have been a work that supplemented Princess Mononoke. I hope he didn't just casually throw the manuscript in the trash.
I've grown up watching anime and my first anime movie was this one, for me it's super special and I've just discovered the manga thanks to you, you have such a nice way of telling the story and your voice is really calming, thank you so much!
The comic is good but I understand why Miyazaki said comics were not his thing. Many parts of the comic such as battles and passing is good but obviously made by a guy that makes films with far to many angles as if it was filmed, the battles are amazing but very confusing, I found myself staring at panels for a good while to understand how things were playing out. The manga is beautiful, I love the story and give it a 10/10 all I am saying is I can understand why he gave up manga, he drew multiple panels that like in a movie would be different angles and shots, but in a manga you can take short cuts draw larger panels with more exposition instead he draws a panel and literally panes between conversations like in a movie making his job twice as hard. Overall a great story only I agree that manga was not for him and his works translates much better to movies, the problem with this particular project is that the studio cut the film massively and in all honesty Miyazaki himself should have made multiple movies a franchise essentially instead of compressing these 7 chapters into one movie.
Thank you for a very informative video. Well spoken and well thought out and explained. Thank you!!!
Color is the visual equivalent of music.
Would be good to see more clips of the manga…..
Just finished the Nausicaa of the Vallet of the Wind manga really good read, aged very well The difference in writing between the movie and manga is night and day Nausicaa is a top tier mc Ion think stuff like Nier and Attack on Titan would exist without Nausicaa, they werent lying when they said the manga was a pioneer
Nausicaa was the very first anime I ever watched as a kid. I wasn't allowed to watch any anime, not even Voltron back in the day, my parents just wanted absolutely nothing to do with it or my exposure to it. By pure chance and mistake, my father rented it. I was instantly hooked. Blown away. Many, many years later, I learned more about manga from my brother. I was never really into comic books, so avoided manga as well. He pushed me to read Nausicaa when he found it, because he knew how much I loved that film. And I did. And I loved it. But what a hard read. The film is rated PG, I think. The manga gets so very, very dark and grim. And I loved it all the same.
Just finished the Manga two days ago. Still blown away by the story, artwork and most of all character. This is how a Princess should be.
Great analysis! One thing I would disagree slightly with though is your interpretation of the meaning of Nausicaa's blue outfit. I would argue that it actually is meant to signify Nausicaa's character and her relationship with the forsest, as well as foreshadowing the end of the film when her clothes are literally soaked in blue Ohmu blood. Blue is a colour traditionally seen as calm, gentle, and peaceful; all traits Nausicaa uses at the film's climax. Her blending in and becoming a part of the forest also indicates visually to the viewers that she is in a way one with the forest; comfortable and intimate with it. She moves through the forest world as a part of it, instead of storming through like Princess Kushana who stands in stark contrast to the forest in her bright gold and white armour, a colour that, not so coincidentally, more closely matches the dead and dry landscape of Acid Lake and the desert. Regions that have been destroyed and are yet to be reclaimed by the forest. You also see this same contrast with Asbel, who flies a bright red ship when he attacks the fleet, and the Pejitians, who also engage in the same senseless violence Nausicaa is trying to stop. You make a great point about the importance of colour in Ghibli films, but I feel like this topic requires a much longer video to analyze properly; there is so much thought and depth put into it; you've really kickstarted my brain 🤯
Choose historical/mythical character you like and bring them to the present
It's not that Tezuka is the Miyazaki of manga. It's Miyazaki is the Tezuka of anime.
ur eyes big as hell twin
even after ages the magic of Studio Ghibli will remain alive in our hearts and souls
It a well damn good written story, very relatable to reality. Need to get my hands on the manga 2&3
Great video, wonderful face, amazing story, nice delivery. Hope to see you step back up to the plate soon 👑
The Japanese Walt Disney.
Don't disrespect Tezuka sensei
