If you are lucky enough to visit Cyprus don't limit your culinary experience to expensive restraunts in places like Limassol. Paphos, Nicosia or Larnaca. Head to the hills, Platres and Kakapotrea have great local hostelries offering great local produce at sensible prices. Add a bottle of the excellent Cyprus wine. Relax, take you time and enjoy.

I did a tour of duty in 1969/71 with the RAF at 33SU in what is now Ayia Napa. I believe it's still there. In those days my Green Morgan 4/4 was a common sight in the old part of Famagusta. The area inside the old city wall was mostly Turkish speaking. Outside the wall was mostly Greek speaking. In those days all Cypriots could travel freely anywhere on the Island, a bit like England and Wales. A situation most Cypriots would welcome a return to.

Protaras is overpriced, over developed, over-rated and expensive.. Visit Cyprus by all means but there are far better areas

I spent a lot of my spare time in Nicosia in 1968/9 while serving there in the RAF. Loved it but NO I would not go back now. Too much Russian money.
