January 6 is the day of Theofania or Epiphany and here in Greece it is also the day of the Blessing of the Waters, to commemorate the baptism of Christ in the river Jordan. The priest blesses the waters by throwing a cross in the sea. Young men then dive into the cold water to find it and receive a secial blessing from the priest. Καλή χρονιά σε όλους με υγεία! Hi, We have enjoyed watching your videos of Samos, My Father was born in Samos Karlovasi and after that he migrated to Tanzania East Africa in the early 1920.I am his son and have in 1970 Moved to the U.S.A. I got there this summer (2021) with Captain Jiannis on the Agia Irini boat! The goats were friendly on Samiopoula.
