It’s because the company is in control of whether or not you can play a video game due to them withholding that function remember people are not purchasing a product. They’re purchasing a license to use the product not to do what they want with it.

Xbox quick resume isn't new. Even the Xbox one x had quick resume where you could continue where you left off if the console was in sleep mode. Now it has been messed up by a patch update so when I resume my game from sleep mode I get a black screen for about 20 seconds. It sucks because my games used to start up straight away before. Now I just power down my Xbox one x after using it. There is no point to keeping it in sleep mode anymore when you still have to wait ages to play anyway. At least quick resume still works on my ps4 pro.
