Back in the 90s every band was tuning down in some form and covering songs required a different tuning for each song. The 7 string made that headache easier most of the time. I found it also sounded much better overall (compared to 6 strings) and after finding an early first run Universe with an incredible neck 7 strings became my "standard" to do this day. As 8 strings and up in my opinion only give you an extra range of about 5 frets and most of those notes can be quite difficult to articulate clearly live especially through a high gain amp and venue pa system etc... Which is a subjective thing but to me the added 7 string was so great in sound and convience it outweighed the inconveniences of a wider thicker neck. Which as I mentioned wasn't that bad upon finding the right 7 string neck for me. With 1989/1990 Universe neck I barely notice the difference in the neck from 6 strings. There are some killer 7 string necks that make the jump from a 6 to 7 no big deal. But with 8 string necks the size and comfort drawbacks outweigh all the gains in range/tone and I've tried several. Also many Jazz guitarists swear by 7 strings so it's not just a rock music "B String Go Chug" thing. George Van Epps was playing a Jazz on a 7 string archtop tuned to drop A since the 1930s custom made by Epiphone and later Gretsch. I too much prefer the drop A tuning on a 7 string. There also is along history of Russian guy/nylon string guitars being used (although in a different tuning setup than most modern 7 strings) since the 18th to 19th century. 7 string guitars make alot sense in alot more situations than most would assume and go much further back in history than most think. To me guitar makers will only continue to improve upon there construction of 7 strings and I see them eventually becoming the new official standard electric guitar setup at some point. If you believe that like I do grab a first run Universe before the prices get even more insane. Since if any vintage 7 strings will become the new 59 Les Paul's at some point those first year Universes with the edge trems and awesome necks are definitely it.

It's sad how ACTUAL BASSISTS DO NOT get there recognition. I had the pleasure of meeting Nick Schendzielos in Austin last year. He was so sweet and kind. But to get back to his bass playing, he's just so intelligent in what his input with any project he is on. So grateful you guys took the time to have him on. What a great interview. 👍 🎉

Man i ish i had freinds like you guys..i dreamed of being tatood all over ..i have some but not like inthought.. always asumed id be in a cool shop hanging around with buddies and getting work as much as i could..but never ended up like that..i cleaned a shop next door to me but i was too ypung and they left before i was abke to get inked..
