The Zodiac Killer Z32 Cipher Solution
Possible neat Z32 cipher solution:
‘Four radians and four and a half inches’
South San Francisco/Paradise Valley/San Bruno Mtn has a wide aperture for expected survey error versus other radian zones. Matches environment and suburban typology.
The ‘M’ point in Mikado letter crosshair is exactly on 4 radians from magnetic north.
Other solutions I found that fit the cipher include:
Three radians and one and a half inch
Three radians and two and a half inch
Five radians and one and a quarter inch
Five radians and two and a quarter inch
However the above solutions do not land in as ideal suburban or environmental typologies and the cipher consistency is nowhere near as good as four radians and four and...

Brilliant again. @paulscape72 I know that you think Zodiac's choice of 17 characters width isn't too relevant, but i find it interesting that he chose to use the same width for both long ciphers. I've always suspected that this was perhaps due to Zodiac using a certain type of graph paper to draw his ciphers. Many people have noted in the past that standard 8.5 inch width American paper would divide into 17 half-inch squares. If Zodiac created his own graph paper using 1/4 inch squares and then used it as you suggest, it would also fit a 17 character width cipher perfectly. One thing that didn't fit well with that theory is that the 408 is 24 lines long and this would mean the full cipher would not fit on standard 8.5 × 11 inches American Letter paper if used as described above. However the whole cipher would fit nicely onto the longer 'Legal' or 'Government Legal' paper sizes (IF Zodiac wrote the whole thing on one sheet first!).
@@krisb5952 when I was younger I had a massive drawing board at home and at work with graph paper covering the whole board. It’s also possible he reduced the size of graph paper to better suit his lettering and fit the dimensions of the letters he sent. Either way I’m sure it’s 1/4 inch. Check out the Melvin Belli letter in my latest video. Most of the letters fit each graph paper box like the ciphers. Every other cipher has a neat left hand side vertical alignment that also strongly suggests it was all done on graph paper.

Amazing
One thing I do like, that you picked up on, is what you actually wrote, and not part of the video. You did notice that the "S" and the "F" are remarkable and malleable as letters. It's a shame that you touch on that, because you noticed something, but you didn't really go much further. I hope to expand and drill down on that a bit more in one of my future videos. I believe there's more to your theory that you touched on. Specifically the "F" that you noticed. Which some have taken to calling "The Candy Cane F". I believe I know why it stands out both in the way that you identified it, and why so many have noticed how "Fanciful" it is. It should be a hoot, when I'm finished.
@@EdEdwardsCiphers I’ll check out your videos. I think Zodiac has ‘key’ letters that he uses, almost like a cipher key, that are different to how he normally writes, to help disguise his work. S, F, D, M, double LL’s etc. he also wrote Belli letter like the cipher with most letters in a neat 1/4 inch block.
@@paulscape72 Well. There's no rush. At least not for me. My work is gonna be similar to yours. There will be multiple episodes, due to the multiple murders and multiple ciphers undetected until now, by me. I don't have an answer about the S, or the D, or the M, or LL. But I believe the F is special. And I believe I know why. I'll hope to put out an episode about it. But it may not be for months. I've got lots of work to do on it. But I'll be perusing what you post periodically. Good luck. It seems like you're doing good work.
One thing I forgot to mention in this video is the 32 cipher contains triangle symbols, also used in other ciphers, (along with omega symbol etc) but in geodetic survey these triangles are 1st to third order monumented points in survey drafting symbols. Might be something in that that gives the 32 cipher some reference markers. The map instructions are simple but solving 32 is difficult due to its short length. If he wanted it to be solved he would likely put in some relevant (survey) clues to assist.
@@paulscape72 Dunno. Not my strength . Not my area. Perhaps you'll find something no one has. If I can do it, I'm sure you can. Perhaps this is an important find. Only you can do it.
I do have to say though, I was expecting something different with the title "Design Influences" though. I actually thought, you had found and figured out, some of the things I have. But your tac is a bit different. So that's fine. I'll wait to see if your research will surface something significant that I can agree with.
I like what you're trying to do. I have to watch the full compliment of all your videos, but it's a bit much all at once. And there seem to be a lot of "musings". Which is fine, it's your channel, and it's why I have my own channel. If I don't like it, I can do it myself ;-)

This is a fresh bit of Zodiac Killer studies. Zodiac, graphic designer
@@patricklemire9278 check out part 4 that has a bit of graphic design and illustration, although I am not convinced he was a graphic designer, and will go through that in part 5 coming soon!
@@paulscape72 I'm glad you mentioned this, because this would be one of the areas where we disagree. I'll have to look for that part where you speak on it. All of my work actually, says that he was fluent in graphic design and illustration. This is similar to how, everyone believes his missives were filled with misspelled words. It was recently discovered that most of, if not all, then a large part of his oeuvre. Previously thought of as being filled with spelling errors, the majority of those errors, are not in fact errors. But can be traced to arcane spellings. Spellings that are actually a part of a deep history. Requiring specialized knowledge and reading, of books that span the 15th to 17th century. In other words, the public for the longest time believed him to be bumbling and misspelling. When the reality is, someone would have to have an almost Doctorate level of reading to be familiar with the arcane spellings of those words, from very esoteric sources. He was fooling people. He wasn't a misspeller, He was in fact showing a deep breadth of being literate. He was plucking these arcane clews, and pasting them into his missives as thumbs to the noses of everyone. My work shows that , what I just described, that was missed for decades. Clews littered within all of his writings. Misunderstood as misspellings. It's the same with Graphic Design and illustration. This is a person with deep understanding of it. So much so, that he could easily disguise it, and he did just that. There's a word for ability to use this type of skill to hide information. Information hiding is called Cryptology. Information hiding using writing is called cryptography. But information hiding inside of the writing itself is another class of cryptography, called steganography. Turns out understanding the language of design and illustration is extremely helpful with that. I had to learn it to track him. No one else sees it, because no one else is looking. Just like no one else found his misspellings before. He was smarter than that. He was smart enough to hide it.
@@EdEdwardsCiphers it’s more about design, architecture and engineering than pure graphic design in my opinion. It’s all related back to drawing and visual communication though.
@@paulscape72 I can only go , by what I know. I don't know architecture, nor engineering. So perhaps if that's your background then that might make sense. Perhaps that's where your strongest. My leads pointed to Graphic design and illustration. They didn't point me to those other areas. But perhaps they exist. I don't know. What I do know, and some of what I've posted already on my channel , revolves around the language of design. And if no one is looking in that area, then that might be why there are so many exemplars, because no one is looking for them. Great way to hide them. I've been forced, to learn the language of design, by someone who left clews to that effect. A website, lays out clews on how to detect previously undetected ciphers. Someone detected one of these ciphers on Reddit. But no one realized nor could authenticate it as a cipher, because they're not aware of the language that the Zodiac was using. And I suspect and hope to show, had been using during the 5 canonical, and possibly way before. Much much earlier than previously known. So that's what I know. The accumulation of the work, speaks to someone exquisitely familiar with everything connected to the world of publishing. Which includes a fluency in graphic design. But this is your channel , and your content. It's just much further along than mine. But is giving me some good ideas. I'm a few months behind you though. In terms of my production, I'll have a lot of work ahead of me. I've tried and have some basic attempts up, but it's clear to me now, that not many people can process what is happening. So I have to learn the language that the Zodiac was fluent in to try to get people to understand what was hidden in front of them all along. That language is graphic design and page layout. I'd be curious to see where your concentration of architecture and engineering lead you. Perhaps it will lead you to the same 4 or 5 undetected ciphers that I found. And possibly the other one found on Reddit. That is still head scratching for those who can I guess read. But don't understand what they're seeing. I'll be watching.
@@paulscape72 We'll see. Perhaps we'll see. Let's see what you found.

08:27 - people keep saying Zodiac could have picked up his cryptography skills from a cereal packet. Well one thing he knew was FREQUENCY ANALYSIS, he knew letter "E" was the most common letter in the English alphabet which is why he asigned so many symbols to mask the use in the plain text.
That would make things interesting if his name was full of EE's then.

This is amazing. Have you filled the police report? Or gone to the press yet?
I have not.. so much more than just that. Police dont take anybody serious when it comes to the zodiac.
Thousands of people have theory's.. everybody wants to be the one to figure it out by stretching the facts that arnt really facts to match a suspect. There is only one truth.. and truth is that nothing needs to be stretched. Just needs to be listened to by somebody that will actually take action to uncover some things
@@FrankTaft-ng7zr That is shocking that they don't take anyone serious. Because you have the lightbox, I'm assuming you've provided prints. Even gone so far is invested your own money where you ran into issues like the one you raised. You've also gotten independent verification where possible. And are involved with multiple parties that would help to give your claim legitimacy. This basic level is assumed correct?
@@FrankTaft-ng7zr These are strong words. Along with the factual lightbox, that is undisputable proof. Along with him being a plumber, no doubt you have plumbed the depths of logical thinking and proving your case.
@paulscape72 This is very insightful. Both of Zodiac's long cyphers were 17 characters wide, and the popular theory is that he used 8.5 inch paper that he then divided into half inch squares. I wonded if you have any thoughts on this?
The lettering size and spacing of the ciphers indicates it’s done over a formal grid, most probably graph paper, and most probably a light table (he could have stuck it to a window but that’s harder to write neatly with). I’m on metric in Australia, not imperial, so I haven’t looked into exact dimensions. It’s more about who would have access to a light table, the symbols and the neat writing capability/confidence.
I would suspect that graph paper was used as well. The reason I ask the question is that certain professionals, such as engineers, use distinct types of graph paper. It would be interesting to me if a profession that used light tables for example also used graph paper that might fit a 17 character wide cipher.
@@krisb5952 When I used a formal drafting table in my early career, I had a whole B0 size sheet of graph paper laminated and stuck to the board so there was always graph paper behind anything I drew with trace. The Zodiac Killer didn’t really need a drafting board to prepare his communications though. He could have just used a graph paper pad. It’s common, not just for engineers, but landscape architects, architects and industrial designers. Usually it’s fairly standard grid sizing, that’s applicable to draft in multiple scales. If he had used a pencil grid behind there would be graphite on the back of the mailed ciphers. He could have used a pen too to make a grid. Either way that’s extra hassle and it’s more probable he used a standard graph paper sheet to prepare the ciphers. Most university faculties back in the day were open 24hrs so a light table would be easy to access all hours. In a company the Zodiac would have to be discreet or have access to office after hours (not unusual for designers to work late!). They are not particularly hard to make for home use but fairly rare.
@@paulscape72 I find your idea of Zodiac discreetly accesing a light table very interesting. It always seemed strange to me that Zodiac took so much care in the appearance of his cyphers, but then sent one with a scored out symbol. The numerous 'transcription errors', as well as the very distinct breakdown of symbol 'cycles' later in the 408 cypher could also be linked to time constraints or the need to be secretive. I'd be interested to know if you think any of the 'standard' graph paper grid sizes would suit a width of 17 characters? The lengths of the two larger cyphers and their sections varied, but the width of 17 was constant. Because 17 is prime it isn't a particularly obvious number to choose if he was dividing a page for example, and I always wondered if there was a practical reason for this linked to the graph paper he used.
@@krisb5952 He is using gaps between the symbols, and lines, and plenty of graph paper would have enough space.
A number of sleuths will no doubt overlook these details as they dont fit their suspect!
