You don’t see sonic flybys often because it’s hard on the air frame

For enlisted military personnel to be able to see this sonic flyby when you’re deployed, justifies everything you do in the military with great pride

The SR-71 at over 3 times that speed couldn't be heard and at that altitude would cause an upthrow of water behind it stretching miles.

Back in 1984 my husband was stationed on board the USS Dwight d eisenhower. A NUCLEAR AIRCRAFT CARRIER. They have what's called a dependents day cruise. The blue angels performed an air show while we were out at sea. My husband was a Fueler . Also known as the grapes because of the purple shirts they wore. We got to stand in the catwalk, that was on both sides of the ship. Literally feet away from where they did touch an go. Now that will get your heart pumping

I have seen this up this close before. 1, its quite odd seeing something flying at you, and there is no sound until it passes.2, they are moving so fast its difficult to track smoothly with your eyes. Almost as if they are jumping short distances of space as they move past, although you can't tell from video. It's quite awesome, though.

One of those things in life I'll never forget, as a 17 year old kid on his first deployment watching that beautiful Tomcat do its thing. Still makes my shorthairs stand up all these years later.

It wasn't all that uncommon to hear Sonic booms up thru the 70s till they mandated it. Occasionally you would get broken windows.

It's literally one of the most badass things I've witnessed....and lucky enough to see it multiple times.
