Deaf School's Enrico and Bette chat about the reunion gigs in 1988.
The unsettling theme of this "brilliant song" has a timeless relevance!! It's an unsettling yet undeniably compelling musical journey from the off! The "Orwellian/Big Brother Nod in the direction of 1984 which was only a few years away upon this singles release and in addition the faceless beaurocrats who were and are surreptitiously monitoring our every move will absolutely ensure that the importance of this "Masterpiece" will never be reduced!!!
The "musical alignment of the planets"!! And the subsequent brilliance that follows!!
Synths, Drums and Guitars by Blockheads - Mick Gallagher, Charlie Charles and Johnny Turnbull.
I dont think any of them are on this show. That looks like Chris Skornia on keyboards and I think Danny Kustow on guitar. Can't make out the drummer as camera director was fixated on Steve Lindsey and the Robbins girls. Fair to see the drummer is NOT the late Charlie Charles however.
@@momtnz they are not but they were in the studio. From Johnny Turnbull himself.
Granada news !
hmmm think the specials may have heard this for ghostown
I was watching a KISS documentary when Peter Kriss made mention of some bands and influences at the time. The Planets were one of them; out of curiosity I went ahead to look em up and found this hidden gem. Do not regret anything
The planets are still perfectly aligned 40 years after, their 2 sister satellites also shining.
Jack McBrayer before he was in 30 Rock. 😁
Steve. Highfield comp lad.
Great song.mike batt. I remember buying this song.long time ago.
I thought Steve wrote it himself?
1. Singer looks like footballer killed in Channel Plan Crash Emiliano Sala 2. Air Stewardesses don't wear long socks
Now on i-tunes, along with that other great tune ‘Iron for the Iron’ both on the LP. Spent years looking for it, although I still had the single it was slightly chipped
Just found a copy of this song from my shed after 12 years.great song
Been seeking this for 40 years. Saw it on TOTP and never heard it again.
Didn't Mr Lindsey play most of the instruments on this track ?
Ric Euteneuer Thanks Ric. I just played bass and sang. The musicians on the record were the fab Blockheads. Jane and Kate Robbins doing cool backing vocals.
Top tune
Great track I almost forgot.great musicians. Funky bass, cool Hammond keyboards and reggae guitar.
Another great song that never made it, Along with “Voyager Halfway hotel” just disappeared, never found any of these singles anywhere?
What an awesome song. Still playing both Planets LPs regularly after all these years :)
Loved this LP☺ Mr.Lindsey if you are still around , please let me know if you are interested in including your music in a sci Fi animation.
Thanks for making contact. Apologies for my slow reply. I'm rarely on RUclips. I'm a fan of animation. Tell me more.
It is about a space detective, i am looking to accomplish the feel and look of a sci fi ,retro futuristic, film noir type of animation, I can perhaps throw together some clips over one of your songs to show you and if that is enough to hold your interest I will create content specific animation directly for you. Is there a better way for us to communicate? and thanks for getting back, I was just listening to mile high today and thinking on this :)
Hi! Apologies again. I rarely visit here. If you're still interested in using some music please drop me an email at steve@elevatemusic.net Thanks again
I bought this album ! Planets came to Swanea University around 1979-81 - forget exactly - and loved the gig and songs so much I bough the LP.
Great song - I remember it being on Radio 1's playlist for about a week at the time but, if it only reached no 36, how did they get airtime on TOTP?
TOTP always featured anything within the Top 40 and in the 70s would feature new songs they expected to chart also - I think that second route was the one that got this song on.
@@KitCurranRadioShow The song reached number 46 that week, anything in the Top 50 had a chance of being on in preference to a band sending their video, and also the show was keen to show new talent rather than the same old boring Cliff Richard etc. Hence they were invited on. Same for The Mobiles in 1982, they came straight in at No48 so the buzz created got them on TOTP that week.
Great song, unlikely the Beeb will ever show this episode of Top of the Pops again.
1979 was one of the best years of my life for many reasons. This song formed part of the soundtrack of that year and brings back so many happy memories. Love it 😊
+Gill I completely agree 1979 was a great year I look back on it fondly.
@@VincentRE79 I always think middle of 1977 to the end of 1982 was the start of my favourite era for music with so many styles and fashion.
Deaf school connections
Great band and very clever lyrics, totally under-rated. Saw you twice in Sheffield back in 79/80 era, and came across the double CD some years ago - grabbed it. Nice to see you on here Steve.
Awesome - been looking for this song for years!
remember this one from my youth - thanks for posting Steve
But seriously, you're absolutely welcome to stay over if you(s) wanted... Ian
Hi Ian Looking forward to seeing you in Hebden Bridge. It's been a while. Only 40 years or so! Thanks also for offer to kip at yours. Won't be necessary but we must share a few pints afterwards. Get your Super 8 (app) ready! Steve
Steve, I've only just come back here (on youtube) - oh, I'm so glad you'll be lining up Sat week! I'll be in the front row - it's me with the white hair... we've got a house here in Hebden B if they're not paying you enough and you needed to crash! It'll be really good to see you.
Steve - you look so young! I'm wondering if you'll be in the Deaf School line up that's coming through Hebden Bridge in November... I'm thinking of bringing my super8 camera to get some shots... Kind regards, mate.
Haha! I was young! Yes. I'll be playing with Deaf School in Nov. Bring your Super8! But don't bootleg the gig on your cassette recorder. Looking forward to it. See you there. Steve.
just heard this sadly not available on iTunes
I was introduced to this band back in 79 or 80 and later saw them at South Parade Pier in Portsmouth. That was a really good gig - a well rehearsed band, knew their art and gave us a great night's entertainment. My mate Andy S and I used to listen to cassette tapes of their album "Spot" while we were at work - it was around the same time as we listened to Joe Jackson, The Police, Costello, Pistols, Stranglers etc, Ian Drury, Bowie, of course, and some local bands like "Sta Marx" and" Last Orders"Anyway, thanks for sharing this - I wonder what the band members are all doing these days?
Didnt see that show but I remember seeing Deaf School at the Southsea Show!!! In the Portsmouth Hospital Radio tent they were. 1975 I think it would have been.
Bit similar to the police
Still love this song... :-D (Thanks Steve)
one of the best songs ever I had the single and album back in the day, shame they did not crack the big time.
There's another four or five great songs on the Goonhilly Down/Spot CD. Many thanks for uploading this (and having it in the first place).
Long last favourite found again!
若い!(´∀`*)ウフフ
great seeing "The Satalite" sisters too !!
Kate and Jane Robbins.
ha ha just found this after years !!! dear Steve !!
Just singing it now as I type. Cheers, Steve.
Ghost Town by The Specials, released two years after this, sounds similar, IMO. Brilliant song. Still have the single. Should have been a massive hit.
That's Lee Thompson on sax!
Nice one! Love this tune!!
