Well, kudos to MagesGuild discovering this! This was definitely a clear analysis of a critical problem in journalism today. As an English teacher, I am constantly floored at the substandard quality of journalism, right down to the verbage used in various articles. The algorithmic feedback loop that has dumbed down actual facts with spin has become painfully obvious by the results. But I see this as a much more damaging consequence long-term. As a couple of generations have graduated into society with insipid writing and moronic 'intellectual' practices, we've seen a proliferation of expanding public idiocy and hysteria. A media that is this incompetent, lacking a moral center, is much easier to manipulate. Fools are hired to craft or continue narratives. And somehow, even at a subconscious level, many in the public have become aware of the insignificance of what they are reading and hearing. Instead, they go to independent voices that have integrity and intelligence. But this is only HALF the general public. The rest lap it up as though the narrative was crafted by Nobel laureates. And it is THIS conglomeration of intellectual 'vegetables' that provide the life support propping up zombie media. It provides protective cover and energy to the decaying body of intellectual and informational discourse. If one hundred percent of the masses simply refused to buy a single paper or magazine, or watch cable news, then (even against the wishes of Black Rock and others) those legacy institutions would have to shut down. As it is, we see them collapse slowly, one at a time, in an ongoing trainwreck unfolding in slow motion before our eyes. But there seems to always be another train car behind the ones that have derailed and are burning. This will eventually come to an end at some point. It has to. But what will society look like when it does?
