Villarreal Positional Game - Training to game transfer

This video shows how we train is then transferred into how we play during matches. If we use sessions or work on tactical concepts in training, we want our players to do the same when it matters. This is a great example of that transfer.
Development of Guardiola's 4v4+3 Juego de Posicion
Просмотров 608 тыс.8 лет назад
This video is an analysis of the various stages players go through when introduced to this exercise and how the concepts can be seen in match play. It also shows the concepts that can be coached within this exercise and why it's so popular, and such a mainstay exercise, with Pep Guardiola.

    when the 4 not in possession win it, does the other 4 become the outsiders?

    • @Juddy-vk6fo
      @Juddy-vk6fo 6 лет назад

      This focuses on the shift of mentality from defend to attack and vice versa, so the four in the middle are initially defending, and the four on the outside maintain possession with the three neutrals in the middle, when the defenders win it they then swap places with the four on the outside to now become the possession team, all whilst keeping the ball moving.

    Why do you have to complete 5 passes? All of the best teams and players in the world make the correct decision in possession - not based on quantity of passes. Fundamentally, this is why I believe such practices are flawed.

    • @diegosanudodt7697
      @diegosanudodt7697 6 лет назад

      Variation: Every time you find the GK on the opposite side = 1 point, every time you lose the ball by forcing a forward pass when the space wasn't there yet, lose a point (and other team has possession now), better?

    • @LexLuthor1234
      @LexLuthor1234 3 года назад

      @@diegosanudodt7697 Good idea, or lose two points even, as it is such a fundamental issue. Something similar could perhaps be done for penetration and finishing vs defense (from 3 vs 3 to even entire attacking vs defensive blocks). a Failure to penetrate, often accompanied by a loss of possession, is so often tied to an overeagerness of trying to force a breakthrough where you are, rather than to first create the likely opportune situation where penetration is much more likely (for example by having a shape that ensures good width, and then sideshifting well, and quickly much more often).

    • @Hazding
      @Hazding 3 года назад

      The exercise is designed to FORCE a special playstyle on the players called positional play. The endgoal is to play several passes in one area of the pitch to draw the defending team towards this area, because this opens up space on the opposite side of the pitch. It's not to pick "the best way to get the ball from point A to point B". If you don't draw your opponent far enough out of position before you switch play, they will be able to defend pretty easily (given equally good teams). If you play 5 passes on one side of the pitch, threatening to get to a breakthrough on this side of the pitch, opponent is forced to compact this side of the pitch. This leaves enormous room on the other side of the pitch once the switch of play comes. If there are no passes and movement, there is no threat and the opposing team doesn't have to compact. As Pep Guardiola often is quoted "we are not trying to move the ball. We are trying to move the opponent." It is a style of football that try to argue "as long as the players can pass the ball and move into the right spaces, you can beat a team with better players by moving 8 of their players out on one flank through quick precise passing, then create a very fast 3 vs 2 attack on the opposite side". It is however correct that the number of passes is irrelevant, as long as you are able to convince the opponent they need to move their whole team over to one side of the pitch to defend. IE. Barcelona sometimes use Messi as a winger. Not because they want to attack on the wing with Messi, but because they know that the opponent will compact their team towards Messi whenever he has the ball and threatens that he will dribble 2-3 guys. It makes it very easy for Barcelona to attack on the opposite side of the field after Messi plays a pass to the side, makes a run inbehind, the whole opponent team is trying to stop Messi from getting the ball, and whole idea was to trick them into doing this, as they play the ball to the other flank and score an easy goal.

    When do you change neutral players?

    • @kieransmith5889
      @kieransmith5889 8 лет назад

      You can change them at each rest period, but it depends on what the focus of the session is and which players you're focusing on. You might want to keep them in there to help with the relationship or movement patterns if you know they will be starting the next match together.
