Jonsteen is where trees come from! Nestled behind the Redwood Curtain on Northern California’s rugged Pacific Coast, The Jonsteen Company is the world's consummate tree company. We grow trees, package trees, and promote and educate about trees and tree planting.
At its founding, Jonsteen committed to spread a message of respect for our environment and a love of trees. We dedicated ourselves to teaching about the manifold benefits that trees bring to our planet, our communities, and our lives individually and collectively. And though that was more than 25 years ago, we are more convinced than ever that by caring about our planet and the life in it, by understanding our connectedness, a better, brighter future will be born. That’s the reason we work hard every day to make Jonsteen a tree company that cares for the planet and everyone that loves to be alive.

The website does not tell you how many seeds come in a pack.
Seed counts vary. The Grow Kits for trees are designed to germinate at least one tree. That's guaranteed. Depending on species and germination rates, there may be anywhere from 2-10 seeds included in the kit. The flower kits are generous -- enough seed for a really big flower patch or to plant in several locations.
I’m growing them up here in Washington. And I grow true cedar.
Bro the reaction from your team when she entered the office with her kit, melted my heart. Really nourishing response

Can these grow kits be shipped to Canada, or would I need a phytosanitary certificate with them?
Is it possible to ship these to Canada, or would I need a phytosanitary certificate? If I need one it'd be too expensive I think. I would also be interested in buying sequoia and Joshua tree seeds, perhaps those wouldn't need a phytosanitary certificate for Canada?
We ship to Canada all the time. Yes, the Phytosanitary Certificate does add to the expense. It's $75. We have awesome grow kits for both Giant Sequoias and Joshua Trees, but don't typically sell bulk seed.
@@jonathanclaasen8774 Good to know, do the grow kits for those species need a phytosanitary certificate? I'd like to order some of those kits, but the extra 75$ would likely be too much.
Are these grown from seeds from local trees? I wonder if it could be harmful to introduce non-local genetics.
This is all one big lie. These "seedlings" are are not from seeds but from tissue culture. I have grown sequoias from seeds it takes three years to get them to the size like he is showing .
34:15 What a great toss
This is the kind of stuff our kids should be watching instead of the usual crap they watch . Great job guys
yo jenny kinda crazy ngl
Planted 3 of your coast redwd in 3 gall pots at my ranch in San Diego mountains today. Very much enjoyed your video.Psalm 1:3.
Nice video!! 👍🏻👍🏻🌲
Hello thanks for the vidéo on séquoia !how many seeds in the box showed ?please ?
Question, Are your viewers on Zoom all kids? That's what it sounds like the way she is talking.
I have 3 sequoia's, 3 coast redwoods and 3 dawn redwoods 1 natural 1 bonsai 1 bonsai forest.
Wood be my dream job.
Nice!👍🏻🙂
My seed kit came with "seedling" instructions which was confusing so thank you for a video with seed kit instructions, very helpful.
Which trees do you plant and how many? :-)
Jonsteen planted coast live oaks and coast redwoods.
@@keon4883 Very cool and nice !
Thousands of years?? Nooooo, surely not! No one was alive then!!
So cool
Gorgeous park ranger!
I bought a few of these kits none of them grew. Guarantee is useless, have to pay for shipping.
Seed replacements are free! Just give us a call us at (707) 839-1067.
@@jonsteentrees also I heard some reviews on Amazon that it does not grow because the seeds are probably old or damaged while shipping or driving
@@juststick9613 The seed included in our grow kits is pulled from the same stock we use to plant and grow hundreds of thousands of trees at our own nursery here in northern California. We would certainly never send out seed that is not viable! It would take some pretty extreme conditions in transit to damage the dormant seed inside the kits. But if that did ever happen, we would send out fresh seed for absolutely zero dollars per our 100% guarantee. Our goal is to get trees planted and grown successfully - we are here to help make that happen!
Beautifull! I have just planted a tiny 3cm giant sequioa seedling 3cm in my garden forest in Dalarna Sweden.
Great job, we are from your future. 👽 The tree grew to almost 940 ft. After 2023, humans didn't fair so well. I can't say anymore, said too much already.
Future generations that witness your trees will stare in awe.
this tree erased the carbon footprint of your whole family good job!
So excited to get my Incense Cedar seedling from you guys (via Wal-Mart) who knew?. I'm obsessed with trees 💕
I'm obsessed with trees too haha! Glad there are people alike out there in the world :)
Bought both a giant sequoia and coastal redwood from you, doing fine so far, and bought today japanese black pine. Thank you.
I have bought like a few "edited: I meant Giant Sequoia" from you guys I live in Maryland is there any secret to make them stay alive? all of mine died within a year of getting them . I live in Maryland in the coastal plains which is mostly low elevation sandy and clay sols
You can do it...try again! If you have Coast Redwoods, the key is plenty of moisture, mistings, and filtered sunlight. If you have giant sequoias, full sunlight, NO mistings, and let the soil dry down really thoroughly between waterings. Also, take advantage of Jonsteen's 100% guarantee -- free replacements until you and the tree figure it out! Get in touch!
@@jonathanclaasen8774 so for coast redwood what would you recommend? I put them in the fridge right now so i have a good 20 days to figure it out🤞😅 you have any tips on once theyre out of the fridge? Some sort of rookie mistakes that can be avoided?
@@stefanfreestylez After giving the seeds time to "imbibe" in the fridge -- it's all about warmth to wake them up. You want the soil/seeds to remain moist while warming up to about 80°F. Usually a couple sunny days in an interior window sill does the trick. With the appropriate moisture and warmth, it's all Nature to see how many of your seeds will germinate. Usually, germination takes place within 3-5 days of when the conditions have all been met. If things are not all quite right, this "incubation" phase can take longer. Once the emergent seedlings sprout up -- it's a great practice to remove the top from the mini-greenhouse for ventilation, reduce the warmth level incrementally by relocating to somewhat cooler locations, and adopt a regimen of lightly misting your sprouts in the mornings, allowing them to dry off during the day (to avoid mold). As time passes, you can adjust conditions to more what the mature tree will be dealing with in its life in your location. After a week or several, transplant from the mini-greenhouse to an open air container, perhaps in a protected area initially, then to an outdoor location that will begin to experience the elements with less intervention on your part. Coast Redwoods like filtered sunlight, can be cold-hardy down to occasional dips below freezing, love mistings, and rely on deep waterings with time for the soil to dry down in between these deep drenchings. Good luck!
@@jonathanclaasen8774 I love growing these trees, I've been germinating them myself for around 4 years now. The one piece of advice I can give to anyone is that the more you do it, the more you learn and understand and the better you get. Do your research, be mindful and logical when raising the trees and that helps with survival rates a lot.. I usually have to give them away because I move around a lot, but one day I dream of having my own property where I can plant a grove of giant sequoia! :D
@@planterbanter Thank you for growing trees! You are absolutely correct -- great work! I hope your dream comes true!
what is the name of that tube?
We can ship all around the world, but live plant material (i.e., trees) are more difficult to export/import to some countries than others. Also, every species is a bit different, so each consignment is reviewed based on what trees/seeds are involved and exactly where it is going. For Mexico, I believe you would need a Mexican import permit and a phytosanitary certificate (we get the Phyto after an inspection at a cost of $65) to make it happen. The Import Permit would be your responsibility and I'm not sure how difficult or easy that is to obtain.
Can you ship sequoia trees that are around 2 foot tall to Ohio? and how much would it cost for around 6 trees plus shipping?
Beautiful! Do you ship to Mexico?
Quick question but during the waiting period of 20 days in the refrigerator, did you have to keep the soil moist? Or did you leave it completely alone ?
Usually, since the kit is really soaking wet when you put it in the fridge it is not necessary to add additional moisture during this stratification period in the fridge. However, it never hurts to just check the kit every once in a while. The whole point of cold-stratification is to give the seeds a long chance to "imbibe" as much moisture as possible. So, if your kit appears to be drying down during this period, by all means, add more water!
Just ordered a few of these, can't wait to start the journey!
How many days stratification ?
24 to 48 hours soaking in water just bag the seeds fill with water put in fridge then put on moist paper towel fold then put back in a bag poke holes for air flow and wait for 30 to 60 days the plant in soil that's it.
Did you make cuttings?
Great video guys 👍
👍🇨🇦👍
Awsome video iv been looking for passionate people of the great Sequoia 👍 i started ( trying) my own Sequoia growing and i just love it ☑️
How are your sequoia doing a year on from your comment??
I am probably your most frequent customer from the little market in Fishcamp California. I am a NP Ranger in the Mariposa Grove. I want so badly to grow some sequoia trees. It's tricky as hell. Maybe I water them too much. I realize you have a guarantee but I am sure that I am killing them somehow and that's not fair to you. I'll check and see if you sell in bulk, that might increase my chances. Thanks for the videos. Just ordered two small and one large sapling! This is an addiction!
Buy seed.
Please check out Scenic Hill farm nursery their prices are great and I have bought over 50 trees from them that are all doing well
The World isn't 5 years old Ranger weirdo.
i just bought one of these from you, but its dying. and i dont k wo why:(
yep same here I bought from several companies hey all arrive in perfect condition then they die, I am thinking they use some special fertilizer
I lived at Music Farm near Shaver, Huntington lake, in Jose Basin. The owner went to the General Grant tree and collected cones and flicked out the seeds. Hundreds of Thousands . For decades. When I got there some 1000+ trees were in pots. I had to give away and sell them. For three years. But now Everything is burned and gone. And prior to the fire pine beetles had killed 90% of pines for hundreds of square miles. 500,000 acres are burned, all those redwoods dead.we had almost 100% success with seeds: some potting soil and water. That simple. Now I live close to Big Tree.
When he walks around with his tree... liked and subscribe Do!
Thanks for sharing with us. Well, can we grow in tropical/subtropical region?
Why not? I grow Giant sequoia at home with led lamp. And this tree happy :)
Yes If they get enough wated
I absolutely love the coast redwoods and giant sequoia. Great video and very informative!
What about the Dawn redwood?
Thank you for posting this. I love the earthy philosophy that you employ. I saw this video within the seminar you did a few months and searched like crazy for this stand-alone video. I want to know that since you bypass fire, squirrel and chick-a-dee with seed collection in your process, how are the actual seeds harvested out of the pine cones? I am in Redding and my coastal redwood has been shedding cones for a few years now. My yard is loaded with them. But how to I get the accrual seeds out of the cones? The internet has not yielded answers.
You can use a toothpick and flick them out. We put the seed in potting soil and had almost 100% success. Just keep them wet
my heroes
I bought 2 little sequoias and coast redwoods each from you guys, I was afraid they wouldn't survive they looked pretty dried out from the long trip from California to Maryland, plus my post office should have delivered them to me on a Friday but they waited till the following monday, but after a month of spraying mist twice a day, once in the morning and evening they are growing well, now I need a bigger container as they are in small solo cups lol
On holiday in California in 2015, we bought one of your Giant Sequoia small tree seedlings in a box (for $ 9.-). Back in Holland we treated it with love and planted it in a 60 lit tub eventually so as not to overgrow all houses here. Our sequoia now stands strong and 240 cm tall. Thank you for the memory.
I would love to see this tree!
Imagine 10,000cm.
I got my giant sequoia with them and it’s doing great growing fast and healthy I live down here in San Diego 😆👍
Gonna be an epic tree one day Christian!
I just planted my first sequoia seedling and it's great to see the people who raised her
And that's going to grow into a wonder giant one day!! how cool
