Keep in mind my experience differs from yours and everyone else's, and I haven't been around that scene in 15 years... but anyway, I grew up in an area where everyone was into metal and punk (dirty gutter punk, not MTV pop punk) til I was about 23/24 (I am now 39 years old). Racism is also a huge problem in the punk scene as well, there are bands and fans who are just openly racist... At least where I grew up, punk and metal are completely separate scenes with different people, but both communities are similar and have pretty much the same issues. Keep in mind that a lot of people who live that life aren't accepting of anyone who is different from them (regardless of race). Still not healthy, but for some it has nothing to do with racism. Most people who are big into that scene (both band members and fans) they have their entire identity and lives wrapped up in punk or metal. It determines who they hang out with and how they dress... on Friday nights they go to a basement show to see some local band play, not the highschool football game or the school homecoming dance. The music they listen to is the only good music... and if you listen to different music, not only is your music garbage, but you will never be accepted. If you are jock you will never be accepted. Even emo kids and metal kids didn't get along. I met some great metalheads who I was friends with for many years... but because I was not into punk or metal (even though I am white), and I didn't dress like them or act like them... a decent number of people never accepted me or even attempted to get to know me, even though we had a lot of mutual friends and were around each other quite often. Like straight up ignoring me, or being rude, etc. There are people who I have seen countless times over many years, and never said more than a few words to one another. I am so glad I no longer live in that area ... and now I have awesome friends who are not into that music. Also one more thing... while I personally have never met anyone who was black and into the punk scene, I have met several black metalheads who had their entire lives wrapped up into the metal scene.. they acted the same, dressed the same, didn't listen to other types of music, etc and they were accepted by quite a few people. Obviously they were not accepted by everyone, as they were still hated by those who were openly racist... and were "tolerated" but never accepted by the people who were clearly racist but not as deep and they weren't openly racist (all racism is bad, I'm not trying to downplay how they treat others). What is interesting, is I never saw those black metalheads hang out with or friends with anyone who was black but outside of the metal scene. They hated anything that wasn't metal and didn't hang out with anyone who wasn't a metalhead. I appreciated you perspective, and now I am just sharing my experience.. I am not trying to convince you of anything or argue a point, I am not even slightly involved with those music scenes... and I hate that music (which is why I clicked on your video) It is crazy to me how they look down on people who are outside of their group... and even if someone likes metal but not exclusively metal, and isn't living as a metalhead, they are going to be treated like an outsider. There is a lot of gatekeeping in that community as well but that is a whole different discussion.

Racism has no place in Heavy Metal. I love Heavy Metal and have Metalhead friends of all races. Music is music. A person’s race doesn’t matter. Hope I worded that correctly.

Ive had some racist experiences in the heavy metal community and the nu metal community. Its ironic and crazy at the same time but I agree with this video. Theres even some racist band members, youve probably already heard of them. But yeah, black people especially men definitely have a hard uphill climb in the metal industry.

Thank you for talking about this issue!!! Stuttering is very common, especially in males. I was a severe stutterer as a child and attended speech therapy all during my school years. I have written numerous research papers on stuttering --including two theses (undergraduate and graduate school). I am a clinical social worker and I work with stutterers--coping with having an invisible impediment..I consider myself to be a recovered stutterer. I still stutter--mildly, sometimes moderate.

I think I honestly retired from it after not being consistent with rapping haha! Did anyone tell you that with your hat you seem to resemble Biggie Smalls? I couldn't help but notice that, my friend. Even your flow is quite unique and fits the origins of Hip-Hop. You remind me of Nas in a lot of ways in this song. You don't resemble much of what Hip-Hop has degenerated into with all this mumble rap. You're preserving an art form that originally was to awaken the social consciousness.
